Chapter One: The First Mistake
Stephen stepped through the portal he had made to Skrullos. The sorcerer had been sent to bargain with the "Super- Skrull named Kl'rt," to ensure the safety of earth from it and its people.
The doctor was weary, this particular skrull was powerful. It could not only shapeshift, but had superhuman strength, stamina, durability, elasticity, flight, invisibility, and minor magical abilities. On a typical day it would be no problem for the sorcerer who faced Thanos… however after endless weeks of hunting and magic use the sorcerer was wearing thin.
Tony and Peter continuously pleaded with him to return home. They wanted him to stop seeking fights, to return back to 'normal.' But Stephen had a secret, one he even kept from them.
He was afraid he would never be 'normal' again. After endless deaths at the hands of Dormammu and millions of futures ending in equal amounts of death… the sorcerer was lost. All he knew right now, at this moment, was how to fight. Having the advantage of living through all those futures, he was intimately familiar with each potential danger and their level of destruction.
This skrull, Kl'rt, was one of the worst. And if not stopped now, he would resurface in 15 years time anyway. He had to be stopped.
Stephen scanned the room he had entered, he did not sense any magic as he crept down the corridor. Then, he was attacked from behind. Damn invisibility. Stephen rose to his feet and cast a shield around him, a different type of shield crashed against his own. The power was greater than anticipated and running low on energy from fight-after-fight, Stephen had to change his plan. He threw himself into a powerful spell to unveil his opponent, once successful they began to fight in earnest.
"I just wanted to talk," Stephen sighs, blocking a hand to his face.
"I know what you wanted, Doctor Strange," the Skrull hissed, pushing the sorcerer back.
Stephen was held back by magical bonds, the last image of a fist to his face before unconsciousness consumed him.

Stephen woke to the same damp room, his arms bound above his head with his hands in some magic vice. His cloak encaged a few feet away, struggling to free itself.
"Stephen! Are you okay?" an anxious voice calls. Stephen's head snaps up, Tony.
"Tony, wha-what are you doing here? You can't be here!" Stephen says in disbelief.
"Wong said you were in trouble, he's fighting the skrull now. We have to hurry!" Tony says studying the bonds.
"Wait- you're not real," Stephen says shaking his head clear. Tony didn't know where he was. Wong didn't know where he was. No one knew where he was, because Stephen was an idiot and went alone.
"Steph, I'm real," Tony says taking the sorcerer's face into his hands. The other man closed his eyes, it sounded just like Tony. It almost felt like him, but it wasn't.
"What do you want Kl'rt?" Stephen hissed, eyes hardening. The illusion cracked a bit, annoyance shining through. Then, 'Tony's' face morphed into a wicked grin.
A new figure took place.
"Peter," Stephen whispered.
"I want you to save us mom! Please! He'll kill us," the illusion cried grasping at Stephen's shoulders. The cloak, the sorcerer finally noted, was gone.
"You're. Not. Real," Stephen gritted.
He had to give the creature props. 'Mom' a nickname earned from Peter after too much 'mother hening' and 'Steph,' from Tony that was often whispered like a hidden 'I love you.' Kl'rt had been watching them and it made Stephen feel ill at the implications.
"No, but it could be," the skrull said, taking its final form. Stephen looked into his own eyes, a mirror reflection.
"Give me the time stone and your family lives," the skrull bargains. Stephen glares up at it.
"No," he answers. A twisted smile takes the carbon-copy's face.
"Oh, I was so hoping you'd say that," it exclaimed.
The skrull, still as Stephen, waltzed over and roughly grabbed the Sorcerer's right bound hand. Ghosting its fingers over it, a new torture device took place.
The sorcerer screamed in anguish.
A device similar to a bear trap was clamped around his already damaged hand.
"How about now?" The skrull cooed. The Sorcerer gained his composure back, allowing only wheezy breaths to break through. His face hardened into a mask of indifference.
"Go to hell," Stephen spit. It grinned in response, moving to the second hand.

After a few other creative torture methods, the skrull paced in frustration. Stephen kneeled with his hands still bound by the traps, bloodied and bruised. His body in a similar, messy, state.
"Just tell me sorcerer, where is the time stone?" It asked for the twentieth time.
"Torture me all you want, but you'll never have it," Stephen groans.
"Oh, you are a stubborn one," it seeths.
"Pain is an old friend," Stephen promises. Then, the skrulls face lit with excitement.
"You gave it to someone else to hide, didn't you?" It exclaimed. Stephen felt his skin pale further, and it wasn't just from blood loss.
"Was it me?" the skrull teases, morphing into Tony.
"Or me?" it asks, this time as Peter.
"Come on Steph," back to Tony.
"Who will die-" Peter.
"All because of you?" Tony.
"Stop! Stop it!" Stephen breaks a bit. The skrull, Tony, smiles.
"And we have a winner!" it exclaims.
The illusion turns back into Stephen, "Sorry honey, but I have to go home."
It turns its back to Stephen before whipping back around, "I almost forgot!"
The skrull removed Stephens wedding ring from his mangled finger, placing it on his own.
Then, it creates a portal, a replica of the real Stephens, and walks into what the true sorcerer can tell is his own living room.
'Please god let them live," Stephen whispers to himself. The bonds contained his magic, while a spell of the skrulls doing kept him alive, only barely.
