Bowser Jr. Stood in front of the dilapidated mansion, his father standing behind him. Well, what was left him, at least. Junior had managed to successfully repair the body that had been destroyed by Mario, but it still lacked a soul. After asking Kamek for advice, he had been told to come here.
"Why don't you go?" Junior had asked. Kamek had sighed in response.
"Your father visited that place a long time ago. When he returned to the castle, however, he was never quite the same. I refuse to go there myself, because I have an idea of what exactly lurks in that mansion, but I know that I can't stop you. Just...be careful, okay?" Junior had nodded and began the several hour-long journey. His dad had come along too, but Junior didn't order him to go back. When they finally reached the mansion, Junior was glad he had let his dad come along. It looked completely abandoned, and Junior would be lying if he said he wasn't afraid. But, if there was something or someone in there that could help him get his father back, he would do anything. He stepped up to the rickety porch and knocked. No response.
"Well, it is late at night, maybe they're asleep," he thought to himself. He was about to knock again when the door slowly opened on its own. Junior peered inside, and motioned for his father to follow him. They stepped into a large foyer, full of dust and cobwebs. Suddenly, the door slammed behind them, and several candles throughout the room lit up.
"Who dares to enter my domain?" a booming voice shouted at the shivering Bowser Jr. The room had suddenly gotten extremely cold, and Junior swore he could see shapes moving throughout the room. He plucked up courage and replied,
"I am Bowser Jr., the son of King Bowser. I was told by someone that you would be able to help me." The voice let out a laugh.
"Ah, so you're Bowser's kid, eh? You're much bigger than the last time I saw you." Finally, Junior watched as a shape began to manifest in front of him. It was a Boo, with a large crown on its head containing a red gem. "I was a very close friend of your father's. Please, call me King Boo."
"You knew my father?" Junior asked.
"Of course! We were very close allies. I even assisted in his conquest of the Mushroom Kingdom! So, how is he?" King Boo then turned his eyes to face the husk of Bowser. "Ah, there you are! Long time no see!" He frowned when Bowser said nothing.
"My father is dead. This is his body, but he lacks a soul. I was told you could help with that."
"I see. Tell me, how exactly did he die?"
"He was killed...By a man named Mario." King Boo's grin returned.
"Ah yes, I've heard a lot about this 'Mario' character. Seems that he was too much for Bowser to handle after all, even with the Star Gems." King Boo floated in silence for a moment, as if deep in thought. "So, let me guess. You want me to help bring your father back, then help you take revenge against Mario?" Junior nodded. "And what makes you think I will help you?"
"Did you not already tell me you and my father were good friends?" King Boo laughed.
"I might have been exaggerating when I said 'friends'. To be honest, we were closer to mere allies. I've helped revive him once before, you know."
"Wait, you were the one that rescued my father the first time Mario defeated him? Then surely-"
"Of course, after that we made a deal. I broke some pretty big rules the first time I brought him back, and I was severely punished for it. You see, I was not always a Boo. Until I helped your father, I was alive, much like you. As punishment for my actions, however, I was banished to the Underwhere. But, I escaped, and promised to help your father in exchange for something."
"In exchange for what?" Junior asked.
"In the event that he faced Mario again and was defeated, I would be given control of his body. Thankfully, you saved me a lot of work by already preserving his body. However, if you want a soul, it will have to be me. After all, I cannot risk freeing your father's soul again, otherwise I would be banished again, and I would not be able to escape so easily this time." Junior frowned.
"So my father is truly gone?" King Boo nodded, a look of sorrow on his face. "Fine, then. You can possess my father's body, take over the kingdom, do whatever you want. All I ask is that you help me get revenge on my father's murderer." King Boo let out a cackle of glee.
"Yes! It shall be done!" Suddenly, the room was full of Boos, all looking at their king. "Come, my subjects, tonight we begin our conquest to take back what was once ours!" Cheers resounded throughout the room as King Boo flew into the chest of Bowser. As he began to move more fluidly, Bowser's eyes turned red, and the crown morphed to resemble King Boo's. He roared and turned to face Junior.
"Now, take us to the castle!"
Author's note: Alright, here we go! After much thought, I decided I would go ahead and write the sequel to my previous fic, The Return of the Bros. By the way, if you haven't already I strongly recommend you go and read that first, as there will be several plot points that won't make much sense unless you read the previous fic. I'm actually really excited for this now that I've started writing it, and I hope you guys are just as hyped! If you are, make sure to follow so that you get notified when the fic is updated. Welp, I'll see you guys in the next chapter. Bye!
