This is set in Queensland, Australia. I don't know much about lifeguards and surfing and stuff, so if you know I got something wrong please tell me! Not sure how often I will upload new chapters to this story. Enjoy! ~ FandomWritingBae

Alexandra Jennings sat back in the lifeguard chair and contemplated life as it was. Last week, she had finished her training, and since she had turned 18 in July, was now a qualified lifeguard. It was the middle of October, so lots of people were starting to return to the beach, but it was, oddly, still a little quiet. The head lifeguard and her good friend Niyx had said something about someone booking the corner of the beach for a photoshoot, so that was properly why.
Over the next hour, people started to turn up at the railing seperating the beach from the busy street outside. Most of them were holding phones, and a few had professional looking cameras. They were all talking loudly and excitedly, holding magazines with a gorgeous looking boy on the front cover who couldn't have been older than twenty.
The walkie talkie on her belt started to crackle with energy and Niyx's voice spoke to her.
"Can you hear me Kitten?" The transceiver crackled. She still had no idea why he had decided to call her that.
"Yep, coming in loud and clear!" Alex responded. As an afterthought she added, "Over."
"Good," Niyx chuckled. "I'm going to need you to come back to the watchtower."
"Okay, I'm coming!" Alex answered. The walkie talkie went silent.
After trudging up the many stairs and no small mount of mental cursing, Alex arrived.
"Hey, Alex!" A blonde boy yelled out happily. His name was Jordan Sparker, and he had completed his lifeguard training alongside Alex. He was a bit of a prankster, but he was sure a lovable one.
"Hey Sparkie!" Alex smirked, looked around and became more than a little confused. "Wait, was I meant to come up? Oh no, there's no one down there anymore! What's going on!?"
"Jeeze, calm down Alex," Jordan said, rolling his eyes. "Some blokes booked the beach and apparently asked Niyx to make sure there were no lifeguards getting in the way"
"Getting in the way?" Alex asked. "We stop people from drowning!"
"I know! It's outrageous, especially when they're doing a photoshoot!"
She narrowed her eyes.
"Sparker, that better not have been-"
She was cut off by her boss's arrival.
"Alex!" Niyx huffed the moment he walked in, "You're sunburnt!"
"Yeah, sitting on a chair for three hours will do that to you" Alex rolled her eyes.
"I told you to put sunscreen on!" Niyx said sadly. "I've told you about sunscreen since the moment you arrived on this beach, and you have never once listened to me. I feel hurt, betrayed and no small amount of anguish. How shall my broken heart ever-"
"Wait," she smiled, "You're joking"
"Yes, well done." Niyx stated. "You really should wear more sunscreen though."
Alex smiled, and promised that she would. Honestly, she was lucky to have him as her boss. Her best friend D.C was always complaining about how rude her boss, Aven, was after all.
"I assume that Jordan has reminded you about Kaiden James?" Niyx interrupted her thoughts.
She looked at Jordan, who shrugged.
"Really?" Niyx groaned. "I told you both this morning, before you went out to swim, but no, you don't remember. I told Jordan again, half an hour ago, so he could tell you, but he doesn't remember. Both of you need to listen more!"
"Please Niyx," Alex asked, putting her biggest, most irresistible puppy dog eyes on, "Can you pleaseeeee tell us again?"
The effect was ruined slightly by Jordan, who was trying to copy her but was really just looking like a very confused fish.
"Fine." Niyx sighed. "Kaiden James is an uprising surfing star who's having a photoshoot here for Akarnae Magazine. That's also why there's a crowd of paparazzi and screaming teenage girls over there." Niyx gestured vaguely. "Alex, I got you back up here so that I can send you and Jordan home early for today, since the rest of the beach is blocked off from the public for this and James doesn't want any Lifeguards."
"Oh, yeah!" Jordan exclaimed. "Now I remember!"
"Imagine that." Niyx said dryly.
Alex and Jordan went off to pack their things. Alex pulled on a pair of demon shorts over her bikini bottoms and put on a dry 'Akarnae Beach!' T- shirt. She slowly approached the stairs and groaned. Well, at least walking down them will be easier than going up.
She raced down the stairs, eager to get to her apartment, and then, when she was nearly down, it happened. Alex tripped, and proceeded to fall down the last five steps and face plant into the sand.
"Hey, you OK there?" A voice asked. Alex looked up and saw a tanned hand reaching down to help her up. She grabbed it, and was pulled up to see the face of the man from the magazines those people had been waving. Kaiden James. God, he was even more gorgeous in real life! She should properly say something.
"Err…" She said, and mentally facepalmed. Why to go, Alex. "Um…. Are you Kaiden James?"
"Yep." The guy said. "What's your name?"
"Uh, Alexandra. Most people call me Alex, though."
"Well, Alex," Kaiden smiled. She could've watched him do that all day. "Hopefully I shall see you around here. You're a lifeguard, right?"
"Yep, that's me." Alex smiled a very creepy, very wide smile. Damn it.
"Well," Kaiden said, looking behind her, "I should properly let you go to your friend. See you around?"
"Yeah!" Alex exclaimed with way too much enthusiasm, and turned around to find Jordan laughing at her goodnaturedly. Her face burned as she realised that they weren't alone. There were more than a few paps laughing at her, and a beautiful woman with a few designers behind her was sneering. Alex did what she usually did in these situations- she left.
Jordan teased her the whole ride home, until they arrived at the apartment complex they both lived in. Alex lived below Jordan and their friend Bear, so Jordan walked her to her door.
"This could only ever happen to you, Alex!" He kept saying. Why couldn't he just shut up? Alex felt a wave of anger wash over her. So what if she was a bit clumsy, and she did get herself into things like this? Why couldn't he give her a break?
She slammed the door in his shocked face.
It was only later that night that she realised she would have done the same to him, if he had embarrassed himself like that too.
