Otherworldly vengeance

This is a salt fic that I decided to write in regards to my opinion on the way that the writers of Miraculous have been taking the story so far and the choices they've made in regards to their characters. I've not been actively watching since the beginning of 3rd season, but I've been following several miraculous fan artists and fan writers who have talked about the things that I missed. I have not been impressed with how the characters of this series have been treated. I love the characters, but I hate the story they are put through. With that said, if I miss some major reveal or some common lore of the show during my story, that's the reason why. I love you guys who write (in my opinion way better) stories regarding this universe. There will not be any salt towards Marinette, Adrien, Luka, Kagami, Alya or Nino. I think that their mistakes are usually bad writing and ooc choices on the writers behalf. With my spiel finished… on to the story.

Hawkmoth POV:

Today had been a very slow day for Gabriel. Not only had he been dealing with company issues and a certain annoying minion vying for Adrien's attention, but not a single person had been in an negative emotional state he could akumatized. Not to mention Natalie had been needing a lot more rest due to the use of the Peacock miraculous, so he had to take on duties she usually took care of. Needless to say, Gabriel was not in a good mood.

It was getting late. Gabriel growled, upset with the fruitless day. He really should just go to bed at this point since most of Paris would be sleeping by now, thus the options of victims would be scarce. Frowning he glanced at the clock on the wall, aware of the fact that he had an early meeting in the morning. If he wanted to keep up appearances, he needed to head to bed within an hour or risk sleep deprivation and an uncomely set of eye bags.

Sighing Gabriel cleared his throat ready to call off his transformation when he suddenly felt a large spike of fury appear somewhere in the city. He blinked, surprised to feel such a strong emotional response, though he wasn't quite sure what it meant. He then smirked. This would be a powerful akuma indeed.

"Ah yes. A poor soul filled with righteous anger against those who have wronged them." Hawkmoth monologue as the window opened up showing the skylight just beginning to turn to night. "Such anger will be perfect for my Akuma."

He looked up and motioned a butterfly to come down to him. His focus was on the butterfly that he failed to notice the fast moving object approaching his window. Just as the butterfly was about to land on his cane, he heard a sudden breaking of glass. He only had time to look up in surprise before suddenly feeling a kick to his face. He flew backwards, hitting the wall as his cane flew to the side.

"What the-" he started to say before a fist came into contact with his face. His head flew back, hitting the ground with an uncomfortable thud. Disoriented, he could do nothing as he felt a hand grab hold of his miraculous and yank it off his chest.

"No more evil doing for you, stupid butterfly man." An unfamiliar cold voice spoke. "Hehe I always wanted to say that." Hawkmoth's transformation fell, leaving Gabriel holding his sore head on the floor with the figure standing over him.

Stunned, Gabriel looked up in utter confusion at the figure before him. "Who are you?" He asked, his voice coming off more as scared than intimidating.

The figure gave him a chilling smile. "I'm your worst nightmare."

Marinette POV:

Things had been really rough this last couple of months for Marinette. From losing Master Fu and becoming the new Guardian, breaking up with Luka, or watching her crush (former crush? Friend that she happens to still have feelings for?) date another girl, it was like the universe was trying to make her as miserable as possible. [Hmmm I wonder why] She only had two people she could really confide in; Tikka and very recently Alya. And while she was grateful for Alya, she wasn't exactly the person who she could look to in seeking advice for handling her life.

Sighing as she finished sewing a piece, she looked over at her kwami sitting on her desk. "Tikki, was it right to tell Alya before telling Chat Noir? I know I'm not supposed to tell anyone, but I feel bad that my partner doesn't know that someone else knows my identity."

She took a look out her window towards the Eiffel Tower, a go to meet up spot for her and Chat Noir, frowning. "Especially since he's been wanting us to know each other's identity forever." She thought back to their last meet up, scowling at the thought of him trying to trick her into a movie date. What was he thinking?

"I'm...not sure Marinette." Tikki answered honestly. "You are the Gaurdian now so it is your responsibility to take care of the miracle box and its contents. What you feel is the right thing to do is the best you can be expected to do." Tikki floated up to Marinette, giving her a loving pat on her shoulder. "I know you can do this Marinette. I trust in you."

Marinette was about to reply when she suddenly heard a knock on the trapdoor above her. Both Marinette and Tikki stiffened, wondering what or who could be knocking. Had Chat Noir decided to visit? Maybe it was a robber? No, a robber wouldn't knock would they. Was it an akuma, like evillustrator? Or even Hawkmoth himself?

A moment or so of silence was followed by another knock on the trapdoor. "Tikki. Stay down!" Marinette whispered frantically as she stood up and grabbed the nearest weapon she could find, her history textbook. Tikki had already flown into the dollhouse that housed the miracle box in an attempt to hide. Marinette grimly took a deep breath as she stealthily climbed up the ladder onto her bed. She took one pause to brace herself. Whatever was out there wasn't going to beat her. She was Ladybug afterall.

With every ounce of bravery she had, she pushed open the trap door and practically flew out the door. She lifted the book up, to partially shield her face as she let out an intimidating growl. "Show yourself!"

She found herself all alone on her balcony, much to her confusion. Scanning the area, she found little disturbed from when she had last come out there. She spotted a glass bottle with some paper in it on the table. Raising an eyebrow, Marinette cautiously stalked towards the mysterious bottle and picked it up. Removing the bottle's lid she pulled out the note.

"What is that?" Tikki appeared out of nowhere, causing Marinette to jump. Apparently Tikki had checked up on Marinette, and seeing that there appeared to be no one around, decided to join her chosen up on the balcony.

"I'm not sure Tikki." Marinette admitted. She opened the note, reading it slowly. Her eyes widened as she read, her face paling.

Hello Ladybug,

Yes I know who you are and I know who Chat Noir are. Do not be alarmed. I am an ally who is seeking to help you. Please come to the Eiffel Tower immediately. I will explain everything.

A Friend

"Tikki!" Marinette whined, her panic rising despite the letter's assurances. Her breath quickened as she frantically looked around. "Tikki someone knows. I mean someone clearly not Alya. Cause why would Alya leave a note instead of just coming through the door? Oh gosh, what do I do Tikki? What if this is a trap? What if-"

"Marinette!" Tikki interrupted Marinette's spiral. "I'm not sure what's going on but I don't think you have a choice. We need to figure out what they want."

Marinette grimace, nodding. "You're right Tikki. Let's get going." She called on her transformation, after making sure that the other miraculous were safely hidden and locked away. After one final deep breath, Ladybug threw her yoyo and made her way towards the uncertain meetup in which she didn't know what the outcome would be.

Adrien POV:

Hello Chat Noir,

Yes I know who you are and I know who Ladybug are. Do not be alarmed. I am an ally who is seeking to help you. Please come to the Eiffel Tower immediately. I will explain everything.

A Friend

Adrien stared at the ominous letter in surprise, having read it three times now. He couldn't comprehend someone knowing his AND his Lady's identity. A hollow pit of dread formed in his stomach. This wasn't good. Nothing good could come from someone knowing, right?

"Plagg." Adrien said in a low voice. "What should we do?" He looked over at his kwami, who was uncharacteristically nervous, his tail flicking back and forth like a cat in distress. Plagg had been around since essentially the beginning of time. But this had taken even him by surprise.

"I'm sure Ladybug will have a plan to get us out of this situation." Plagg noted, trying to come off as nonchalant. "Plus I'm curious who wrote this letter so let's go!"

Adrien glared at his kwami but nodded. "My guess is Ladybug is already on her way to the meeting spot as well. Which means we should be going out to help her. Plagg," he held out his right hand where his miraculous was, a solemn demeanor on his face. "Claws out."

Thanks for reading. I was originally going to make this a one shot but I felt it would be better to flesh out everything and not rush it. Let me know what you think will happen next. Who is this mysterious figure? And what do they have to do with Ladybug and Chat Noir?
