Problematic children, dragon war and messy hair days

Summary: Hiccup stops the war between viking and dragon. Alongside his adopted baby sister and her inhuman strength to carry grow men in her arms and a tendency to kick and scream if anyone, but Hiccup touches her hair. Or, the one where Stoick has two problematic children.

Note: Hello, all if you look at my account there's an old story called Proud to call you sister. I have disconnected that story and decided to turn it into a one shot. This is that said one-shot. All mistakes are my own. Other than that, enjoy.

Solveig Valka Horrendous is the adopted daughter of Stoick the Vast, but also the adopted sister of Hiccup the third. The plan was to give her away to someone else in the village that may be able to look after a child because Stoick could barely look after one he did not want to look after another. It turned out though that the Gods had a strange sense of humour because now Stoick had two problematic children.

One of them being Hiccup who seems to break anything that he touches when he isn't looking for trolls. The other one is Solveig, who seems to think that throwing grown men into the air is a good idea for a pass time.

It probably also didn't help that his adopted daughter wouldn't let him touch her hair. The child made such a loud cry that it scared of any dragons away from Berk for the next three months. All because he had to braid her hair, which was a no for Solveig and wouldn't stop crying until Hiccup arrived.

Stoick could run a village that was easy. Looking after two kids that wasn't easy and sometimes, he wondered what to do because he didn't how to handle Hiccup. He never did. Hiccup wasn't Viking like always looking for trouble and all Stoick wanted was Hiccup to stay safe and no Hiccup, you can't kill a dragon and no there's no Night Fury.

At least he's been around Hiccup for a while that he started to understand his son. Sort, of understand and by understanding he means keeping Hiccup with Gobber where Hiccup was less likely going to get taken by a dragon.

Solveig was a different story. Whenever Stoick was with her all she would talk about is Hiccup did this, Hiccup did that and he did this Chief Stoick.

Yes, Chief see that right there is the problem.

He knows it wasn't Hiccup fault he's seen the kid try and correct her, but Solveig goes back to calling Stoick, Chief and not dad. He knows he adopted her, but she didn't know that. She was only a baby when they found her mother washed up on the beach dead and her baby alive.

"What am I'm going to do Gobber? My own daughter doesn't even call me dad," Stoick said to Gobber as they strolled through the village.

"Maybe spend some time with her."

"I do."

Gobber stared.

"Will I do Gobber."

"Really? What do you know about her?"

Was that a trick question?

"Solveig don't throw him around like that," Hiccup said. Rushing towards the girl who was currently throwing grown man around like they we're dolls.

"Aww."

Stoick winches when the men drop on the ground landing with a thud and groaning in pain.

"What have I said about carrying grownups?" Hiccup asked as the pair walked away.

"Not to."

"Because?"

"Because it's not very nice."

"She tends to carry viking around," Stoick said.

Gobber rolled his eyes.

"Everyone knows that Stoick even Snotlout does and the lad not the smartest tool in the shed."

"She likes to draw."

Actually, he's pretty sure Hiccup liked to draw.

"See that right there is your problem. You don't know your own two kids."

"Then how do I get to know my own kids?"

And, why is he asking parenting advice from a viking that wasn't a parent? Stoick would wonder about that later right now he more interesting in knowing how to deal with Hiccup and Solveig.

"Spend some time with them Stoick. Let them be. I know neither of them are very viking like, but both of them have a right to get to know their father."

He would've, maybe, possible, likely not because looking for the Dragon nest seemed like a better idea. At least Stoick knew how to handle the search.

Hiccup was right he shot down the Night Fury and yeah, sure he was going to kill him, but he ended up backing out leaving the dragon after cutting him free. A war that had been going on for generations and he Hiccup the third cut the viking most feared enemy free. If anyone back home found out he would be banished and even disowned.

Thank, the Gods that his Little Sun wouldn't tell a soul and Hiccup can carry on with his life. Will he thought he could, but it turned out his father actually does listen because not only is he doing dragon training, but he's also befriending that said dragon.

Who knew that dragons actually ate fish?

He's been learning new and new things about dragons all thanks to the Night Fury. It's, a shame he can't tell anyone where he learnt it from or he be banished or disowned. Or, maybe both and that's if he's lucky if his village didn't turn on him and tried to kill him.

Now, where was his sister?

He's in the cove with Toothless and Solveig wouldn't go too far. Right?

"Little Sun?"

His eyes widen at the sight because Toothless was begging for help as the five-year-old picks up the dragon in her arms, carrying it as if the dragon was light as a feather. Toothless did not at all enjoy this, but his sister was delighted.

"Solveig put him down right now," he said. "What have I said about carrying people?"

"But kitty not a person?" five-year-old logic said.

Because really, only a five-year-old would call the most fear dragon in viking history kitty.

"It's still not very nice."

"Aww."

He hates seeing that sad look on her face, but Solveig does what she is told and place Toothless back on the ground. The dragon roars before he flips his tail at her and walks away.

"Bye kitty."

Toothless didn't want anything to do with them for the rest of the afternoon. Hiccup didn't blame him.

Solveig was only five, but she knew when something was wrong when something bad happened and she knew something had indeed happened.

She didn't understand why though because big brother had been saved by a dragon. That counts as something right? She knows that she was meant to keep kitty a secret because kitty was big and deadly and big brother didn't want anyone to get hurt because of the kitty with the green eyes. So, she keeps her mouth shut and moves on with life.

She been watching big brother do dragon training for the past few weeks learning all the tricks he learnt from kitty and becoming the best out of all of them. Even Astrid didn't stand a chance and Astrid was one of the strongest female warriors of her generation.

Then something bad happened when big brother had to fight a Nightmare. She was told to stay back and sit with Chief while big brother deal, with the Nightmare. It didn't go well because the Nightmare got scared when the Chief yelled and almost attack big brother and everything afterwards went downhill.

Since, the Chief yelled at big brother and big brother tried so hard to protect her despite the big man yelling at him and now here they stand the pair on the edge of Berk. With big brother looking terribly sad and she wonders what they are doing to kitty because it looked like they we're taking kitty away.

Kitty didn't like it though he was struggling to get out and Solveig could see the sadness and the fear in kitty, big green eyes from here. She wanted to help and even tried to, but viking pushed her away and she had pushed them away only to have big brother pull her aside and now they stand here on the edge of Berk.

She could set kitty free.

She was strong she knows this. She can lift up big brother in her arms and even Gobber with ease no cage could hold her, but big brother says no and even though she didn't understand why she knows it was best to listen to big brother because big brother was always right. At least in Solveig eyes.

"Big brother," she said pulling at his sleeve. "Where we go now?"

Big brother never got to answer because Astrid came.

"Hi, Solveig."

Solveig hides behind big brother because she didn't know what to think about Astrid, she always been cold to big brother and while she was no Snotlout she wasn't a Gobber either.

"Everything a mess, hu Hiccup."

Mess was a bad thing Solveig knows that.

"You must feel horrible. You've lost everything your tribe, your best friend."

Big brother looked down at her picking her up and holding her in his arms.

"Not everything."

She clung onto him still caution about Astrid, but at least she has big brother. She knows big brother had a crush on her because they went on that fly without her after kitty left her behind. Given her a look as if to say it was too dangerous. She didn't see how because Astrid got to do all those cool spins.

"Why didn't I kill that dragon when I had the chance?" Big brother asked.

"Kitty not bad," Solveig said.

"And, you call him kitty again," Astrid said.

She was shock to hear her call the big black kitty, kitty in the cove before she ran away.

"But why didn't you kill him? The rest of us would've done it and maybe even Solveig would've too."

Kitty was nice. She wouldn't harm kitty.

"So, why didn't you?"

"I don't know."

"That isn't an answer."

"Leave him alone," Solveig said. "He doesn't need to answer you."

"It's alright, Little Sun."

"Then answer my question Hiccup. Why didn't you?"

Solveig stared. Fear her stare, Astrid was not afraid of her stare.

"Why is this so important to you?" Hiccup asked.

"Because I want to remember what you say right here."

"I was weak, a coward. I wouldn't kill a dragon. I'm the first viking in three hundred years who wouldn't kill a dragon."

"First to ride one though."

Big brother smiled so did Solveig.

"Idea," she said. "Big brother has an idea."

"And, the idea is?" Astrid asked.

"Eh, probably something stupid."

"Good, but you already done that."

"Then something crazy."

"That's more like it."

Big brother placed her back on the ground.

"Astrid, keep an eye on little sun for me."

Astrid raised an eyebrow as she glanced at Solveig who folder her arms.

"So, Little Sun."

"Only big brother calls me that."

"Alright, then Solveig… Hey, put me down."

As if Solveig was going to stay here, she was going with big brother and Astrid was coming because for some reason big brother like Astrid. Lifting the female viking into her arms she ran in the same direction big brother.

"So, we are riding dragons into a battle field?" one of the twins asked.

"This is fully awesome."

"Aww, I wanted to let the dragons out," Solveig said.

The dragons we're already out standing beside viking.

"Put me down Solveig."

A deadly nadder walked over to them.

"Blue kitty," Solveig said.

She dropped Astrid on the ground who let out a loud yelp and slowly went to reach for the kitty only to be pulled away by Hiccup.

"Sorry sis, but it's Astrid turned."

"Did she seriously call a dragon kitty?" Snotlout asked.

"Alright, Astrid. Are you ready? Put down your axe, just for now."

"But?"

Big brother gestured to the ground. Astrid put down her axe and slowly leaned out her hand the dragon growled, but in the end leaned into Astrid hand.

"Right, we're all set."

"Seriously," Snotlout said. "What about her? We can't take a kid into battle."

"We're Vikings, but even we don't take our young into battle." Fishlegs said.

"But I want to go."

"Sorry, Little Sun, you're going to have to stay behind."

"Alright, everyone let's move out."

She frowned because she can help, she a big girl, but the others leave without her. Will sort of. Little did they know is that the Nightmare hid her as they flew to battle. Granted, she would never recommend flying in a dragon claw it isn't very comfortable.

They've broken the cave and the dragon is out the viking running to their ships. There's a battle down there, and when it looked like Stoick was going to be killed he's saved by a dragon. Will sort of, when the attack came from the sky with a bunch of teens and Hiccup being one of them. Stoick frowns when he sees something in the Nightmare and almost chokes on air. Because Gods, that's Solveig waving her hands with a smile.

For a second there he can't help, but be furious that the teens had allowed a child to enter a battle. There's a reason why dragon training isn't allowed to kids. Sure, they live a life of danger where dragons attack them on a regular basic, but the young are still the young and viking do try and shield them at least a little bit.

So, no Stoick the Vast is not at all happy when Solveig waves and laughs from up above. And, Gobber don't wave back!

"I don't think they know," Gobber pointed out. "If they did, she would be with Hiccup and not Snotlout."

Gobber makes a point because Hiccup is like a protective mother dragon that barely let's his young out of his sight for a mere second. It must've hurt the lad when he had to leave Solveig behind, but once Hiccup finds out he be more furious then hurt.

"You know she might not be yours, but she stubborn like you," Gobber said proudly. "So, is that boy and he's actually yours."

Stoick does not know if he should be happy about the fact that she was adopted. All he knows is, Gobber stop waving.

"Ah guys," Fishlegs said. "I've just notice something."

"What is it Fishlegs?" Hiccup asked.

After all, there in the middle of a battle with the biggest dragon they've ever seen in their life.

"Solveig here," Fishlegs said pointing his finger down to the ground.

Only, for them to notice no he wasn't pointing down to the ground and only for them to notice the sound of a child laughter.

"Solveig!" Hiccup panics.

He's almost fallen of the Nadder if it wasn't for Astrid that used one arm to keep him in his spot. And, no Hiccup you can't just go jumping of a dragon while they are flying in the air.

"Big brother," she says with delight. As if she hadn't noticed the tension of this situation.

Even the twins are not laughing at this point.

"Why did your Nightmare let her here?" Astrid yells.

"I don't know." Snotlout said.

She was given her puppy dog eyes the Nightmare one weakness as it turned out. After all, it works with Toothless, will kitty as Solveig would call him.

"Quickly pass her over to me before she falls," Fishlegs said.

Solveig laughter is heard.

"No, throw her to me."

"Hiccup, the Nadder can only hold two people not three," Astrid reminded him.

Hiccup puts his big boy pants on and for the first time in forever Hiccup trusts someone else to look after his Little Sun, but Odin help them all if Fishlegs gets her hurt or worse. He pushes aside his ego and lets the other viking look after her. After all, they say it takes a village to raise a kid, but his village hadn't really been there for either him or Solveig.

"Alright, Fishlegs look after her."

With those words the Fishlegs dragon fly's underneath the Nightmare and Hiccup sun is in the arms of Fishlegs whom smiling as she clapping.

"Alright, everyone you know what to do," Astrid said.

"Stay with Fishlegs," Hiccup yells.

Hopefully she will listen this time. Right? She will, won't she?

Fishlegs is just glad that Solveig did stay with him. Only problem he ended up falling to the ground with his dragon in toe and Solveig landed on top of him. He's still okay though.

"Ta-dah," she said with her arms in the air.

Her eyes suddenly widen and she darts of him. For a moment he wonders why until he felt the pain of his dragon landing on top of him.

"Less okay."

He hears a Night Fury and by the time he pops his head up his eyes widen when the dragon neck starts coming down towards him. He screamed and tried to move only to find himself being picked up and moved to safety.

Solveig saved him and the dragon by holding him in one hand as she holds the dragon in the other. He smiles shyly as the Chief walked towards them.

"Hi sir," he waves.

He didn't know what else to do because he's never been in a big battle on babysitting duty before.

The battle had won, but it came at a cost and now the viking are setting home. They take the ships with the hurt and tell the others they will arrive with supplies later since may ships had been burnt in the battle and they only hold so much.

Hiccup was one of the injured, but the problem was getting to the boy. After Stoick had at least been able to tell if he was alive and thank the Gods, he was breathing. He tried to move the boy tried to remove the leg before it could do anything else. However, the Night Fury did not trust them and it most certainly didn't trust Stoick after he show the axe the dragon growl and pushed him away, covering up his boy with those black wings and green eyes stare into his soul.

The beast growls and roars the others back down. Astrid tries to convinced the dragon, but the Night Fury shots at them and Stoick holds back his viking because Hiccup is likely already upset with him. The last thing he needed is to tell his son, because yes that's what he is he is Stoick the Vast son and he proud of him. It just took almost losing him for Stoick to see that he was. And, that is why he didn't want to be the one to tell Hiccup that not only did he lose a leg, but his dragon was killed by his own tribe. (That would not go well.)

Which is why Stoick refused to back down because that dragon had his son and even though deep down, he knows the dragon is doing what he thinks is best. It wasn't helping them.

"Big brother."

The dragon ears peek up and he lets out another roar. Great, just what Stoick needed a dragon that saw both of his children as it young.

"Let me through," Solveig said.

"Best if you didn't go lass."

Stoick didn't want his daughter to see her brother in this condition. As much as he hates to admit, Gobber is right because she stubborn and she pushes through the viking. Throwing full grown men and women aside as if they we're only trash. Snotlout tries to hold her back. She picks him up and spins him in the air who in turn ends up being thrown at Fishlegs.

The twins attempted to get her, but one ends up on the ground face first and the other she leaped on and stamps his helmet onto his head before darting towards Stoick.

"Solveig," Astrid said. "You really shouldn't see this."

The beast roars and Astrid walk Solveig to the dragon. (Because she does not take no for answer.)

"What are you doing lass?" Gobber asked. "It's not a pretty sight best not to let Solveig see this."

"She will get through to Toothless."

Solveig is looking up at him and the dragon coos, rubbing his head on her she laughs as he does so.

"Kitty doesn't trust you," she said.

Her laughter died down as she blocks the pair from him.

"Kitty?"

"She calls dragons kitty," Snotlout informed.

Really, he shouldn't be that surprised.

"Tell the beast."

She staring a real cold hard stare.

"Tell kitty."

All he feels is shame because he's Stoick the Vast and he's calling a monster kitty. It wasn't even a cat. He pushes that back though and focus on what in front of him. His son alive, but hurt with a badly hurt leg being protected by viking worse foe and his adopted daughter that does not see him as her father, stands in his way.

He knows better not to mess with her because this child can lift dragons and full-grown men and does it for fun.

"Tell kitty that Hiccup is badly hurt and needs help. We need to chop of his leg Solveig."

Her eyes grown sad she a viking after all she knows what he is saying when he is telling her that he needs to chop of Hiccup leg.

"Okay."

She turns around and whispers into the dragon ear who lets out a moan of pain. Maybe, just maybe Hiccup was right.

Hiccup wakes up and the first thing he sees is Toothless. He's lost and confused because out of all the places a dragon should be his home in Berk was not one of them. Toothless does not care because he's bouncing up and down like a puppy.

"Alright bud," Hiccup said patting the dragon head.

He gets it. Toothless is happy to see him and so is Hiccup as he lifts the blanket up, he frowns once he noticed he was missing a leg.

He, do this with Toothless together they will get through any challenge that comes his way. So, Hiccup stands.

It feels off at first as if he walking in mud and his foot about to sink, but Toothless is there to catch him and as he walked towards the door he can't help, but wonder where his sun had gone to because she never far.

Glancing around the room he does not see her so he opens up the door and see dear, Gods a Nightmare.

"Toothless stay here."

Opening up the door again slower then last time he pokes his head through and find, dragons. Lots of them. Only there not attacking?

There's no yelling, no fighting, no fire in the distance and everything is oddly peaceful.

There's no sun though.

There is the sun out today, but no little sun.

"There's my boy," dad said as he strolls over to Hiccup laughing and oddly proud.

Okay.

He is sure this is some sort of trick being play on him. Was Loki behind this? What did he do to tick of the Gods?

"So, what do you think?"

He isn't going to lie it is amazing dragon and viking living together. A punch in the shoulder and ow that hurts.

"That's for scaring me."

"Astrid, oh hey Astrid how…"

He didn't get to finish as he got kissed by the girl of his dreams, it's Gobber that snap him out of it. Showing him a fin.

"Hope this would do Hiccup. It might need a bit more work on it later, but I'm sure you can fix it up."

He won't lie it might need to be fix a bit here and there.

This is all well and good and yeah, sure Hiccup can adjust to this life, but there's something missing.

"Where Solveig?"

Toothless coos and Hiccup can't help, but worry as everyone exchanges glances.

"No! No, no, no."

He knows that voice and he tried to run towards it, but he stumbles because of this damn leg and he would've hit the ground to if it wasn't for his father catching him in time.

He just glad everyone makes a path for him to see a poor viking woman shaking her head as Solveig stamped her foot into the ground.

"No, no, no."

Her hair is also a mess.

"You're not allowed to touch my hair. Only big brother is."

"Her hair is a mess," Astrid said. "But she won't let anyone near it. She punched Tuffnut nose last week."

"Oh, the pain," the male twin said grabbing his nose as his twin sister laughed. "It was sore for the whole week."

"She thrown three grown viking into the sea. Their okay though," Fishlegs said. "Tossed the Chief helmet in his face. Swung an axe around."

"You let her swing an axe."

Fishlegs goes pale at Hiccup comment.

"Whoa, whoa, back up," Snotlout said. "You've lost a leg. Dragons now live on berk, Tuffnut got punch in the nose by a five-year-old. And, your more worried about Solveig throwing an axe around?"

Hiccup gives his cousin a look that said, duh.

Hiccup didn't even let Solveig near the weapons at the forge. Snotlout puts his hands in the air.

"Okay, gee. No, need to look like a mother dragon."

He was not a mother dragon. Was he?

Toothless ran towards Solveig licking her on the face causing her to giggle as she held up her hands. The dragon eyes widen and screech only to find it was too late as the child picked up the most fear dragon known to viking kind. Skipping and spinning as she holds him in his arms. Toothless look fairly sick.

Thank the Gods that Solveig attention span is fairly short because the moment she looked to him her eyes lighten up like the night time sky. The dragon is once more back down on the ground (nice ground.) While Solveig races up to him and Hiccup does not need to think twice when he pick her up into his arms and take her in for a hug.

"Aww, you have to admit that's fairly cute," Fishlegs said only to get punch in the shoulder by Snotlout.

"Big brother, awake. Big brother, awake. Let's go flying. Can we go flying."

Toothless is beside him wagging his tail and nodding his head.

"Alright, but first hair."

"That's going to take hours," Fishlegs said. "It's horribly knotty by now. Just be thankful that Ruffnut was able to give her a bath."

"And, that was a nightmare," the female twin said shivering at the memory.

"She didn't punch you in the nose though," Tuffnut said only to get punch in the nose by his own sister. "Ow, my nose. It hurts. I am very much hurt right now."

Hiccup does not listen to the nose around him.

There right her hair a mess, but he's been combing it for a long time and his fingers get to work, pulling and tugging and before anyone knew it her hair was in a braid. Solveig giggles.

"But how?" Astrid said. "That should've taken weeks."

"Aye," Gobber said. "Or months."

"You learn a few tricks when dealing with hair. Now, who up for flying."

Toothless licks him at least three times and Solveig dances around them. Hiccup can adjust to this new Berk. After all, he's a viking.

Maybe, all it took was being nice to Hiccup because Stoick walked home one night to be welcome by his son and Solveig. He will not admit to anyone the happiness he felt when he heard the five-year-old say one word.

"Dad back," Solveig said.

Berk has change, but this is a change Stoick can at least try and adjust to.
