Beacon Continental

Chapter 1

Heading down the hallways of the great Beacon Academy, I made my down to the only place there where I calm myself down after a long day. Which is every day to be honest. Getting to my destination, I opened the doors and looked around at all the gym equipment there was. And the best was that since it was past midnight, no one else was here to annoy me.

"Finally. Some peace and quiet." I said in relief and went over to the bench press to start working out and relieving my stress and blow off some steam.

You might be wondering why I need to blow off steam and why I choose to come here to the gym after midnight. The answer is simple. Not only am I the leader of one of the teams here at Beacon, but I am also the target of everyone's jokes. Everyone makes fun of me and mocks me for being the "weakest and most pathetic" student at Beacon. It was at most annoying at first and just gave me a headache at worst. But now, for some Oum forsaken reason, Headmaster Ozpin thought it was a good idea to allow the parents /guardians of the students to move into Beacon. And now the insults and mockery increased tenfold. Constantly to the point that now I look for any way possible to release some steam and to calm myself down from the day full of insults. The best way I found was to work out at the Beacon gym after midnight as there was no one else there and it also allowed me to keep in shape.

"Alright. Let's get to it." I told myself and began working out. First with the bench press and then the treadmill. Afterwards, I followed up with some weights and cables. Then I did some leg press and squats. And to finish it off, I went on the stair master for about twenty minutes and then finally went to do some pull ups.

But as I was doing my set of pull ups, I felt something off. Releasing my grip on the pull up bar and landing on the floor, I looked around the gym and saw what was wrong. The doors to the gym were ajar when I know I closed them. The windows were fully closed when I got here but now, they were partially closed. Listening carefully, I made out the sound of the floor creaking coming from the other side of the gym. I knew what was happening. Sighing, I made my way to the center of the gym.

"You guys are really starting to piss me off." I said irritated. "Come on. I don't have all day. Show yourselves and we can get this over with." Out from the shadows, twelve men came and surrounded me. Each had their own weapon or gun. Thankfully, the ones that had guns had placed suppressors on them. Less of a chance of waking/alerting others.

"Jaune Arc." The apparent leader said stepping up. Now that he was under the light, I could see that he was wielding an Amt AutoMag three with a .30 Carbine cartridge. "We have been looking forward to this. The True High Table sends their regards."

"The High Table is no more. They don't exist anymore. And what makes you think they will keep their end of the deal." I questioned them

"You know the rules just like any other assassin Jaune. Rules are what keep us from being animals. And no one is above the rules. We keep our part of the deal and they will keep theirs." The leader countered.

"True. No one is above the rules and they separate us from the animals. But do you really think this is the first time the High Table has done this. They have done this many times before and will simply eliminate any person that helped them. Are you sure you want to be doing this?" I asked them again.

"They offered us a huge amount to take you down. Plus, it would be a great honor to take down one of the top assassins." The leader said with the others agreeing with him as well.

"Very well. Let's get this done with." I said with a sigh and reached behind me to grab the pistol I always carry on my person. Only to be stopped when I felt the cold metal blade of a weapon touch my bare neck. From the corner of my eye, I could make out that it was a cutlass.

"You really think we were going to make this-" The man with the cutlass said only to be stopped when I elbowed him in the stomach while he was speaking. Knocking the wind out of him. With him bent over and distracted, I grabbed his arm and spun around so that he was in front of me. Twisting his arm in a painful manner, I made him let go of his weapon but caught as it was falling and stabbed him in the chest and neck three times in each spot. Killing him on the spot with his limp body only being held up by me.

"Even after a long time of not having any proper practicing, your skills are still as sharp as ever. Impressive." The leader complimented before ordering the others to attack me all at once.

Seeing this, I quickly moved the body to block the shots from the leader before tossing the body to another member who wielded a hatchet charged at me. The body sent him to the floor. Quickly side stepping to avoid the attack from my left, I used the cutlass to block the follow up attack from the same guy who was using a katana. Instead of moving back to perform another strike, he tried to use his strength and force me to the ground. Noticing this, I reached behind and pulled out my pistol which was a silenced Beretta M9 and fired at him and the two others that came up behind me. With each bullet hitting them square in the head. Hearing a grunting noise, I immediately turned to the left and fired a shot at the guy who I tossed the dead body at, killing him instantly.

Hearing someone running, I looked up and saw two guys attack me with an ax and short sword. I tossed the cutlass at the one with the sword, striking him in the neck and fired at the one with the sword but he ducked in time to avoid the shot. He closed the distance and swung the axe at me. Ducking under his swing, I moved to the side and grabbed his arm when he tried to strike me again. I then quickly twisted his hand painfully which caused him to scream and let go of the ax. Silencing him with a bullet to the head, I then pushed his body away. Seeing the ax on my foot and noticing the leader changing the magazine in his pistol, I kicked the ax up, caught it, and threw it at him. He did not see it coming which caused him to get hit in the shoulder. And while it did not kill him, it did take him out of the fight.

Looking to my right, I jumped back to avoid an attack from another who had brass knuckle with knife attachment. Unfortunately, I was not quick enough and got cut on my arm with some blood coming out. Ducking under his next strike, I was about to counter attack when I got kicked in the back by the last remaining member which caused me to let go of my gun. Turning around, I blocked his next kick before delivering my own kick to the one with the brass knuckles in the sternum which caused him to go down. Turning back, I saw that he was holding two daggers. Instead of attacking me like the others did, it seemed like he waited for me to attack him. Sighing, I simply grabbed my Beretta M9 and fired at him. The bullet hitting him in the head. Finishing off the fight.

Looking over the gym, I saw a lot of blood was on the floor with some getting on the weights and machines. Hearing a pained groan, I looked to my left and saw that the leader was getting up and just removed the axe from his shoulder. Noticing the hatchet was next to me, I picked it up and took aim and threw it at him. The hatchet hitting him in the head, killing him instantly. Sighing, I looked around again and realized the mess that was made was too big for me to clean up by myself. Taking out my scroll, I went over to the bench press and sat down. Looking through my contacts, I selected the number I was looking for. It started to ring and after a moment it was answered.

'Hello.' A female voice said.

"Yes. This is Arc." I began to be interrupted by the person.

'Jaune Arc?' The voice asked.

"Yes. Jaune Arc. I would like to make a dinner reservation for twelve." I told her,

'Your reservation had been placed. Thank you for choosing us.' The lady said before hanging up.

Closing my scroll and putting it away, I sighed and took out my special wallet and pulled out twenty-two gold coins. The underworld coins to be specific to pay for the services I just requested. Now it was just to wait for them to arrive. As I waited for them to arrive, I could not help but look over the dead bodies and think of what the students and parents would say if they knew I did this. Which made me chuckle a bit when I thought of their reactions. Seeing the "weakest and most pathetic student" effortlessly kill some armed assailants. That also reminded me that my time here at Beacon was almost up as my contract/assignment was almost complete. Just a few more weeks and I never have to return here again. Hearing some knocking from the gym doors that led to outside the school, I went over to open doors with my Beretta in hand. Never know when someone else going to attack you. Luckily, it was the five men from the service I had requested.

"Good to see you Jaune." The leader of the three said while taking off his hat in greeting.

"Charlie." I greeted before stepping to the side. Charlie then motioned with his hat for the others to step in and start cleaning up the place.

"You look good Jaune. And here I thought you left all this behind." Charlie said looking over the dead bodies that were being out into bags to be taken away.

"Nah. Just been on an assignment here. Almost done with it anyway." I explained. He simply nodded and continued to watch the rest of the men clean up bodies, blood, weapons and gym equipment. They do their job so well that no one could even tell there was a fight here earlier. Now if only there was a person who can match their effectiveness but in cleaning blood stains on clothes. After about half an hour, the men had finished their job and finished wrapping up the dead bodies and putting them in their vehicle.

"Will I be hearing from you again soon?" Charlie asked as I walked them out.

"Possible. With the High Table sending more people to try and regain their power over us, it is possible you will hear from me real soon. Goodbye Charlie." I answered and gave him his payment. He accepted it before tipping his hat in goodbye and left.

Once they were gone, I went back inside and closed the doors and locking them. Looking over the area, I nodded in satisfaction at seeing how clean the place was. Taking a look at the clock, I saw that it was nearing three in the morning. Knowing I had to head back to my dorm room to not arose suspicion, I reluctantly left the gym and went back to the dorm to get some sleep. Last thing I need is for my "teammates" to lecture me on the importance of sleep. Getting to my dorm, I quietly opened the door and snuck in and got into my bed. Luckily, like my "teammates," their parents/guardians are also heavy sleepers. Breathing in and out, I fell asleep and readied myself for tomorrow.

6:30 A.M.

Waking up to the sunlight coming into the dorm, I got up from my bed and stretched a bit. Checking the time to see that it was six thirty in the morning, I decided to get ready for the day. Getting in the bathroom, I quickly took a shower and changed into my school uniform. Stepping out of the bathroom, I saw that the parents were stirring awake from their sleep. Not wanting to deal with any crap this early in the morning, I grabbed my books and left the dorm to get some food. Getting to the cafeteria, I saw that a few people were already. Mainly adults though and a few students. Fortunately, they were heavily into their conversation that they did not notice me. Grabbing my food, which was just a blueberry muffin and milk, I began to eat. As I ate my breakfast, my mind drifted back to the food the Continental serves each day and it nearly made my mouth drool a bit. Even though I hate Santino D'Antonio and what he did, I have to admit that he was right in the fact that the Continental has so many food options that are great, a man can eat there for a long time and never have the same thing twice or get bored of the food he eats. Finishing up my food and tossing away my trash, I grabbed my books and head to the first class of the day just as more students and parents/guardians started to enter the cafeteria.

Getting to the classroom, I entered the room and sat down in my desk and readied myself for the day. After about forty minutes, the rest of the students came n and took their seat with Glynda coming in a moment later. She grabbed everyone's attention and began the class. Sighing, I began my day of classes. It was annoying as I had to deal with the classes which were annoying and students. After the first class was done, it was then combat class where I had to get beaten by Yang and listen to her horrible puns. Then we had dust class which led to me being blown up by the incompetence of some of the students. Let it be known, that despite being a school for huntsmen in training, it was still a school full of young adults like any other. Next, we had history class with Doctor Oobleck who talks more and talks faster than any person I have ever met. Once his class was finished, we had lunch where I had to endure some more insults and mockery.

Twenty minutes later and lunch was over and we were off towards our next class. This time it was with Professor Port and his constant self-praising. It was a challenge in of itself to stay awake in his class. After that we had one last normal class for the day which was weapon maintenance. No surprise that I pass this class easily. When that class finished, the regular classes were over yet I still had a two-hour class left which was only for team leaders. And that class was not that useful to be honest. But I don't hold onto that opinion too much as I have never been on a team that often so I can't really say too much about it.

Once that was finished, I checked the time to see that it was five p.m. Smiling at the time, I rushed back to my dorm and changed out of my school uniform and into a tailored three-piece dark suit with red cufflinks. Checking myself in the mirror, I looked myself over and was satisfied with the result. Grabbing my Berreta M9 and holstering it, I grabbed my wallet and scroll and left the dorm room and made my way to the bullheads that will take me to Vale. But on the way there, I had to deal with yet another onslaught of mockery and insults from both students and parents alike. Though some did not insult me and instead wondered where I was going in a fancy suit. Some even complimented my looks which I found odd to say the least. Fortunately, after that, no one bothered me aside from the insults. A few minutes later and I reached the bullheads and boarded the one that was heading to downtown Vale. Sitting down, I decided to take a nap until I get there.

Half an Hour Later

The sounds of the bullhead landing woke me up from my nap. Making sure my stuff was still on me, I got up and exited the bullhead. Breathing in the Vale air, I made my way to The Continental. Hailing a cab, I got in and took out a gold coin and asked the driver to take me to the continental. She nodded and began the drive there which only took ten minutes by car. But this time took a bit longer as there was much more traffic which was a given since it was Friday afternoon and most were rushing back to their homes. Eventually, we made it to The Continental. Getting out of the cab and thanking the driver, I entered The Continental and walked up to the concierge who goes by the name Charon. Fitting considering in mythology there is a ferryman who goes by the name of Kharon and ferries people into the underworld.

"Ah. Mr. Arc. Good to see you." Charon said greeting me.

"Pleasure to see you as well Charon." I said smiling once I reached the counter.

"Will you be staying the night here Mr. Arc?" He asked.

"The full weekend actually." I answered while getting out two coins to pay the fee which he took and put them away. But before he could give me the key to the room, another hand came into view with a key to one of the better rooms The Continental has to offer.

"Here Jonathan. Access to our first-class rooms. Compliments of the Continental." The person said.

"Thank you, Winston." I said taking the card and putting it in my wallet.

"Now, if you be so kind and have a seat with me as we have a few things to discuss." He said before taking a step to the side and motioning to one of the dining tables nearby. I nodded and went over to the table and took a seat with Winston joining me right after.

"What would you like to talk about Winston?" I asked.

"Mainly about how your current contract at Beacon is going." He answered while putting on his glasses and taking out a large book to file and write down some things. Mostly likely about some connections and inventory.

"Going well. Already gathered nearly everything that is needed about the place. Just need for the date to arrive so I can finish the contract and hand everything in. But nothing alarming or threatening about the place so far." I told him as I asked one of the bartenders to bring me a small glass of rum.

"If that's the case, then we have nothing to worry about there. You just need to wait two weeks before you can turn it in and be done with it. But what will you do afterward?" He asked.

"Go home and get some proper rest as I really need some. As for after that, I would take up more contracts." I answered. Winston hummed in satisfaction as his attention was now more on his work. The bartender came back at that moment with my drink. Thanking him, I took a sip and relished the taste as it has been a while since I had one. "Also, before I forget Winston, a few more hostile attacked me last night courtesy of the former High Table members." This certainly got his attention.

"Again? They sure are persistent. Best watch our steps as despite them being overthrown and not having as much resources before, they still have enough to wage a war on anyone and will do what they must to regain their power." Winston said in aggravation. Closing the book and putting away his glasses, he got up from his seat. "Have a good day, Jonathan. And do so enjoy your stay here and relax. And do get your wound checked on by the doctor."

"Same to you Winston." I said while taking another sip of my rum as he left the place to where he was probably needed.

Looking to my arm. I placed my hand on my arm and felt the warm touch of blood on my suit reminding me that I did not properly treat the cut I got from the attack last night. Drinking the rest of my Rum, I got up and went to my room and asked for the doctor to come and check it out and also ordered some dinner to be delivered to my room. Sitting on the bed, I waited for them to come, all the while just ready to have a relaxing weekend away from Beacon. But I was mostly just thinking and excited about the fact that my contract will soon be over and I can finally leave Beacon and go home and truly rest.
