A/N: I haven't seen many 100 Years Quest fics, so I'm not sure how this will go over! I thought about the cute moment we were denied in Chapter 65/66 and needed to write it to get it out of my system. Please make sure you don't mind spoilers of the spin-off series, or that you are at least through chapter 66 before reading this.
Brief description/summary with spoilers ahead! All you really need to know is that Team Natsu ends up back in Edolas. We find out that Edo-Nalu and Edo-Gruvia are canon and each pairing has a kid (Nasha and Greige, respectively)! They're not sure how they'll get home because there is no magic in Edolas anymore. The reason they are there and the quest itself is in no way relevant to this fic.
After a day of confusion and surprises, the Fairy Tail wizards were aching for some normalcy. Lucy found a seat at the bar, a thick book being propped open with her right hand while the delicate fingers of her left flicked the pages when needed. She really did take Levy's glasses for granted. She allowed herself a second between pages to survey her surroundings.
The guild was lively, although her eyes fell on the calmest pair.
Sweet little Nasha sat across from Greige at one of the wooden tables. She was setting up a board game between them with a wide smile. The small head of shaggy blue hair almost completely hid his face as he looked down and away from the little pinkette in front of him. Once she seemed to be finished up, she flashed him a dazzling white smile. It was an exact match for a smaller version of Natsu's.
"Ready to play Greige? You can go first!"
His eyes risked a glance at her and nodded shyly. Judging from the tinge of color on his cheeks, it seemed like someone may have a crush. He gave her a nervous smile and immediately shifted focus to the board between them. If he had waited another second, he'd have noticed the color rush to her cheeks as well. Clearly the feelings were mutual.
Suddenly feeling like she was intruding, her focus returned to her book. Her skill of tuning out the guild's chatter was coming in handy. She almost didn't even register that Gray and Natsu were currently fighting over their children. Or, rather, the children of their Edo counterparts. Clearly they had no qualms against outwardly commenting on the adorable moment between the two children.
A glass being set down in front of her pulled her attention again. Mira smiled widely down at her, gesturing to the drink. "Strawberry Shake! It's our Lucy's favorite!"
Lucy resisted the urge to laugh "Mine too actually!" She took a long sip and almost choked on the contents when she swallowed. "Is this spiked?!"
Mira nodded while absentmindedly drying a glass. "Just a little bit of vodka." She set the glass down and reached for another. "She calls it her 'Mommy Milkshake'."
Mommy.
The idea sounded so strange. She obviously knew that those 7 years had passed, and the people in Edolas weren't the only ones to have kids during that time. It just really put into perspective how much time they had really missed out on. Friends had become parents, which was strange enough. Hell, Bisca and Alzack started dating, had a wedding, got pregnant, and had a little girl that could already walk and talk. Entire lives were created in the time they were gone. It wasn't until that very moment that she realized how much they had lost on Tenrou, even though they had all lost it together. There could have been weddings and children of their own. Seeing what could have been was eye-opening.
Where would they have been if it hadn't been for that gap? Would she be married or a parent, too?
Her cheeks flushed at the thought and she refocused on the book in her hand to distract her. Although she knew it was likely pointless, she had to at least try to see if she could find anything to help them. Between pages, she'd allow herself a few sips of her shake. The more she drank, the less she registered the taste of the alcohol. It was during a particularly long sip that she reached the bottom of the drink and felt an arm slump around her shoulders.
"Lucyyyy" Natsu's voice came out in a complaining whine. He was leaning against her dramatically, giving her most of his body weight. "Tell Edo-Lucy that it's not bedtime yet! It's so early!"
Her eyes drifted back over to the little couple who must have finished up their game during her reading. Nasha was thanking him for playing with a warm smile and Greige flashed her a shy one in return before they both turned to retreat to their respective families.
"Kids go to bed early Natsu." She shrugged off his arm and set her now-empty glass back down on the bar top. "If her parents say it's time for bed, then it's time for bed."
"Yeah, well…" Natsu plopped down on the stool next to her with a huff, his eyes looking for Edo-Mira to order a drink. "They're kind of like our kids too, right? Don't we get a say?"
Luckily Lucy wasn't drinking or she was sure she'd have spit out her drink. Unfortunately, Gray wasn't as lucky. The sip of water he had just taken sprayed all over the space in front of him.
"They're not our kids!" Lucy and Gray spoke at the same time, panic was evident in their voices. Their faces were so red you could almost hear them blushing.
For Gray, who was just beginning to come to terms with his love for Juvia, it was too much. He knew, without a doubt, that Juvia was in love with him. Absolutely everyone knew. Hell, she even told him herself dozens of times a day. There was no real fear of rejection, but he was still terrified. His entire life he had been scared to get close to others, and now he had found someone who he couldn't imagine his life without. He had never considered a family. Never considered getting married or having kids.
Even when he had realized his feelings, the thoughts were not there. But seeing what their future could be was eye-opening and gave him hope in a way he had never had before. He found himself wondering if Juvia would want kids as well.
IWould Wendy be right? Would their children be like him? Would they use maker magic, too? He shook his head to clear his thoughts and turned his attention back to Natsu.
He noticed the redness of Lucy's face and wondered if similar thoughts had crossed her mind as well. He actually felt bad for her though. Natsu would likely learn nothing from this experience. He was too dense to realize what this all meant. This experience was living proof that, had they not lost that time together, they may very well have already paired up and settled down too. Maybe Edolas would be a self-fulfilling prophecy and they'd all see themselves in similar situations in the not so distant future.
"We skipped 7 years Natsu. There's no way they could be our kids. Even if they're technically our Edo version's kids and look just like us all." Lucy's eyes stayed focused on the empty glass in front of her. Gray could almost see the thoughts crossing her mind and felt bad for his friend. Natsu was just so dense and clueless. At least he had hope with Juvia, when the time came.
Thoughts of the blue haired water mage crossed his mind again, and he allowed his eyes to flick over to look for the Edo version. He saw the two sets of parents descend the stairs that must have led to their rooms. No matter how similar she looked, she just wasn't the same. He definitely missed her and it hurt not knowing when, or if, he would see her again.
Just the mere thought of never being able to return crossed his mind and he felt a wave of sadness wash over him. Why had he been so stubborn to all of this? At the end of the day, was keeping his pride and cool guy appearance worth the risk that he would never get to tell her how he felt? He knew he had made many mistakes in the past, but the more he thought about it, the higher this was crawling up that list of regrets. There would be no chance of anything if they couldn't find a way back to Earthland.
The trio was soon joined by the four parents. Mira, as if on cue, dropped off a round of drinks. From the looks of it, there were 3 mommy milkshakes, and 4 lowball glasses filled with a dark amber liquid. Their edo counterparts grabbed their drinks and claimed one of the empty tables near the bar. Each couple sat on one side of the table.
Fireball's arm flung lazily around his wife's shoulders and she seemed to relax at his touch. Lucy's eyes widened slightly when she realized how similar that position had been to theirs just a few moments ago. Edo-Gray, with all of his layers, sat with his drink in both of his hands while his Juvia looped her arm around his cushioned elbow. She snuggled tightly against his side and the sight made Gray's chest tighten.
Edo-Lucy smiled at the Earthland trio and gestured over to the table with her free hand. "Come join us! The kids are all tucked in so we can actually talk!"
The thought of sitting there and feeling like the 7th wheel was completely unappealing, especially so when it included watching himself with Juvia. "No thanks" he did his best to sound polite. His fingers gripped the glass of liquor and downed it in one gulp. The fire whisky was burning his throat, but he ignored it. "I'm actually pretty tired. I think I'll head to bed."
"Sorry, didn't even think about how tired you all probably are!" Edo-Natsu set down his drink and scratched the back of his neck nervously. "I'll show you where we set up for you all to sleep,"
Just as he was about to stand, a ring clad hand snatched at his jacket's collar. "Not so fast, Fireball." She pulled him back down with force until they were eye to eye again. "You weren't going to leave just like that, were you?"
"N-no, of course not!" The action caught him by surprise and he leaned forward to press his lips lightly on hers. Clearly this wasn't enough for Edo-Lucy, because her other hand tangled itself in the hair at the nape of his neck and shoved him deeper into the kiss.
With years of practice, the two fell right into place with no awkwardness or asking for permission. Their mouths parted and their tongues danced together as they made out for the entire guild to see. When she tugged roughly on his hair to pull him back a few minutes later, he let out a quiet noise somewhere between a whimper and a moan.
"Hurry back." She flashed her husband a wink and watched as he pulled away and started moving towards the stairs. Judging by the lack of reaction from anyone else in the guild hall, this must have been a regular occurrence.
Edo-Natsu's cheeks tinted with color at the outward display of affection. He gave the blonde a quick smile before heading towards the stairs. When he turned back to see why Gray wasn't following him, he found three shocked faces.
"S-sorry about that!" His hand flew to the back of his neck again in a habit that he hadn't lost through the years. "My wife can be a little...demanding."
Seeing (what looked like) his two best friends making out for all to see had been shocking. He couldn't even imagine what was going through Lucy's mind at the sight. It was a given that Natsu would be completely unfazed. He likely didn't even realize how intimate and awkward that would have been for his partner to watch.
"No need to apologize" Gray shrugged off the comment and stood. He risked a glance back at his friends sitting at the bar. As expected, Lucy's entire body had gone red from embarrassment. Her eyes were wide and she seemed frozen in place. What shocked him the most was that Natsu seemed to have had a similar reaction. Was he seeing things, or was Natsu actually blushing, too? Suddenly he regretted opting for bed. This could get interesting. Maybe he wasn't giving Natsu enough credit after all.
"Have a good night, you two." He sent them a teasing wink over his shoulder before allowing Edo-Natsu to lead him up the stairs.
Lucy was frozen in place. What the hell was that?! Her mind was jumbled to the point where she was unable to even form one coherent thought. She couldn't even determine how she felt after watching that. Her thoughts wandered to her conversation with her counterpart earlier that day.
"We're doing well, so I'm sure you two will too."
Clearly she hadn't been exaggerating about them "doing well".
A/N: I'm supposed to be updating my other Nalu fic today, but ran into some writers block and hope writing this out will help me work in that one as well! As of now, this is intended to be a three/four shot, but I'll gladly expand on this if it's well-received! Don't forget to review what you think and check out my other NALU chapter fic as well that's centered around our favorite ship in quarantine! I would love your feedback on how I'm doing to keep them in as-character as possible! I also respond to all of your reviews and really appreciate the support! Feel free to send me any suggestions for this story, or any story/prompt requests and I'll do my best to write them! I have the majority of this fic almost finished, but I still have to tweak and add to the other chapters. I'm hoping to update every week or 2! Looking forward to posting chapter 2 soon!
