A short androgynous looking person with short dark hair entered the room. They wore a long black jacket which almost reached the floor, above an equally black shirt and pants. They nodded to the guards before opening a cell door and approaching the prisoner. "Are you going to tell me where the prisons are? Or does the torture have to continue?" They looked around and noticed the prisoner was soaked and their fingers were turning dark blue. They winced slightly but tried to hide it.

"Go..to hell." The skinny blond male struggled to answer, their breathing shaky. Their dark eyes were heavy lidded and he was sagging in his chains. His back was a mass of healing whip lashes and various other injuries dotted his frame. "I hope they hang you."

"I'm trying to save innocent people!" The other answered with a slight growl. They then sighed and ordered the guards to take him down. They then brought fresh clothes and bandages. The person began dressing the wounds silently.

"Don't want your prize dying?" The man sarcastically asked before muttering "Fucking tired of being kept like a prize Pekingese…"

"In case you're unaware, I don't want anyone dying." The person finished up and headed to the door.

"There are no prisons! There are schools..but you're a danger to those kids! I won't let them be hurt!" The man jumped to his feet, then began shaking violently, his teeth chattering.

The person turned, grabbing a blanket and holding it out, "Cold or something else wrong?" They then added. "I don't plan to hurt anyone. I don't know what lies they tell you, but those kids are sent to prisons! They're locked up by your side just because they have powers and are seen as a danger! I just want to give them the freedom to be themselves and not have to hide their powers."

He looked at them blankly. "Are they really prisons?" He struggled to comprehend as his powers vied for his attention. "My powers..so cold…"

The person grabbed more blankets and brought them in as well as a space heater. "This should help."

The man tried to nod, but fell forward instead.

The person caught him and helped him onto the cot. Wrapping him in blankets, they turned the heater on high before leaving the cell.

"I must say I disapprove. We almost had him talking." One of the guards spoke unhappily.

"He'd have died if we went on longer."

"So? We can just capture another. He's one of them. No great loss." The guard spit on the floor.

The person rolled their eyes and headed to their office.

Hours later, another guard knocked on the door.

"Come in."

He came in and saluted, then fidgeted.

"What's up?"

"The prisoner is screaming, Sir."

They shook their head and headed back down to the cell. They looked in through the bars, "Heard you were up and being loud."

"Wanted to talk to you." He was half sitting up, the blue tinge gone. "Why did you do this really?" He indicated the heater and blankets.

"Like I said, I don't want anyone dying. Everything I said is the truth, whether you believe it or not is up to you."

"Including the schools being prisons?"

"Yeah. That's why I asked you where the prisons were."

He looked down. "If I tell you, what happens to me?"

"You're free to go." They sighed, "I honestly just figured since you're a top operative, you'd know the locations. I just want to help save the kids." They looked over at the heater, "I'm surprised they kept someone with powers on their side.."

"Prize Pekingese ring a bell? I'm a 'role model'. And since when do prisoners get released after talking?"

"Like I said, unlike some of the guards around here, I don't want anyone dying. And I don't see a point keeping you here once I've gotten the info I need."

"Keeping me here or keeping me alive? What would stop me from leading you into a trap?"

"Well, I'm not completely stupid. I'd check the intel before letting you go."

"I could go back and lead the government here."

"And as much as I don't want people dying, we are trained and armed to fight."

"You should kill me." His dark eyes were resigned. "Do you have a map?"

They sent a guard for the map before suggesting, "You could always join the side of freedom."

"You guys already have a big enough target on your backs. They would never stop trying to retrieve me."

"They won't stop until we're all in prisons or dead! It's bad enough they want half of us there because of our powers, but the rest of us, they still don't approve of because of our gender identities or who we love. The freedom movement is huge for multiple reasons but even if they get you back or take me out, they're not going to stop because people will keep rising up for the rights they deserve."

He blanched and dropped his eyes.

The other person sighed and shook their head, "But I guess you wouldn't understand. You have powers but get to be the chosen of the Chosen. You get to be on the good side."

A guard entered with a large map, laying it out in front of the leader.

"I've heard rumors of one prison in this area," they pointed. "But.. I just know there's at least three."

The man nodded, then pointed to several other spots. "I hope I'm doing the right thing."

"You are. You don't have to believe me, but I don't lie." They rolled up the map, "Thank you."

The next day, the leader entered the cell, bandages and bruises visible. "We've managed to take over a few of the prisons. We have more to do, but I've seen your intel is safe. You can go now or like I said you can join us if you'd like."

"Use me to enter the other prisons. I can get you in easier." He raised his head to reveal a black eye and busted lip. He was huddled on the cot, arms around his torso. His hands and lips were bright blue and the leader realized he was soaking wet.

"What happened?!"

"Your guards don't like me much." His voice held a faint hint of amusement.

The leader went and grabbed clean dry clothes for him. "Do you need help changing?"

"Don't want to get blood on you." He stood and swayed, blood spilling from a shallow stab wound in his side. "I'll be fine."

They got him bandages. "Here. I can help if you need it."

The man surged forward, kissing them hard. "I have the Sight as well. I know what you are. I'm not what they say I am either."

They stared in shock for a moment. "I.."

The man chuckled, then crumpled.

The leader carried him out of the cell, taking him to a room and dressing his wounds. They changed him quickly, then covered him in blankets before sitting down in a chair.

A little while later, he stirred slightly. "I'm sorry! I won't do it again!" He tossed his head back and forth on the pillow.

"Shh, you're safe."

His eyes shot open, his breath hitching. "Where?"

"You're safe..in a room. Still at the base of the Chosen."

"Oh. Sorry for being a hassle." He tried to sit up and hissed.

"You're not a hassle."

"You're kind. But I know that's a lie. I've always been a hassle to everyone."

"I know the feeling.."

That brought him up short. "Really?"

"Doesn't matter," They tried to smile. "But like I said, I don't lie, so I don't think you're a hassle."

"Sorry about earlier. I should have been slapped for doing that. Or worse."

"It's okay. I'm Jasper, by the way. Though you probably know that from my wanted posters."

"Magnus."

"Nice to meet you. Outside of a cell, I guess."

Magnus choked back a laugh, then winced. "I was serious about before. Use me to get inside. Be easier to take over and might spare you some bruises."

"Maybe.."

"Or not. Your choice. I'll shut up now." Magnus pushed aside his bangs and laid back.

"I'll wait a few days to see how you feel." Jasper suggested.

"They'll reinforce the prisons if you wait. You have to hit them all fast or you'll never get through without a lot of deaths."

Jasper nodded slowly. "Alright. But you're not doing much. Just helping us get in, then you're resting more."

His eyebrow quirked. "Almost sounds like you care." His lips twitched into a smile.

Jasper turned slightly red before standing. "Let's get going."

"Little help?"

Jasper held a hand out to help Magnus up.

"Thanks." He moved stiffly toward the door. "Are you going to hold the gun or do I have to worry the guards will do it and get overeager?"

Jasper frowned, "I've got it."

"Okay. Lead the way."

After ordering a few guards to get a team together, Jasper led him to a helicopter. They climbed in and waited for the rest to arrive. Jasper took the time to check his gun and make sure his knives were where they belonged.

Magnus took a deep breath and winced, but tried to hide it.

Soon, the team was ready and they took off.

After arriving, they climbed out and Jasper pulled his gun.

He pointed toward a door and the team rushed to it, opening it and entering.

A tall skinny man smirked as he saw Jasper. "Look who came to visit! The little girl who escaped. I've been looking forward to this day for years."

Jasper froze, trying not to show fear as they recognized the voice.

Magnus charged forward, slamming first a fist, then a knee into the man's face. "Go! I'll have a talk with mister personality here."

Jasper shook his head and waved the guards on to release the prisoners. "This is my fight.."

The man snarled, kicking Magnus into the wall. "Well.. I see you've changed sides. I wonder what they'll say about that.. Unless.. You help me out, and maybe I won't tell?"

"Leave him alone! You're dealing with me right now." Jasper growled and fired his gun toward the man.

The man laughed, "Little girl, you're not much of a threat. You never were. Not when you were in the torture rooms, crying like a baby. Not in your room when you were crying about your parents not wanting you. You were never a threat and you aren't now either." The man lunged forward, pulling a knife out and stabbing it into Jasper's stomach.

Jasper's eyes widened and he fell to his knees, dropping his gun. He tried to focus, controlling a few heavier items around the room to slam into the man. Jasper's hand shook as he reached for his gun.

"Jasper!" Magnus struggled to get to his feet, both hands coated in solid ice.

The man recovered, pushing the stuff off of himself and stalking toward Jasper.

Magnus slammed a fist into the man's head, finally standing up shakily. "Creep." He slowly moved toward Jasper, the ice disappearing as dark blue started to tinge his lips and hands. He barely reached Jasper before collapsing unconscious.

Jasper pulled the knife out, almost fainting. He clutched the wound as blood poured over his fingers. The last thing he remembered was ordering a guard to make sure to bring Magnus back to base, then he was out.

Magnus blinked his eyes open, staring in confusion at the nearby figure. "Um..hello?"

"Hi. I'm Callie." A young teen said quietly. "I helped heal you."

"Why?" He squinted at her in surprise.

"Once they found out I had healing abilities, they sent me to medbay to heal you two."

"I mean, why heal me? I'm no one important." He sat up slowly, glancing over at the sleeping Jasper. "How is Jasper?"

"I just did what I was told. I don't know of you, but everyone is important in some way. Him on the other hand, I've heard rumors of. Commander Phoenix will recover after more rest."

"Good." Magnus began to stand, swaying slightly.

"You need more rest as well," Callie said.

"I can't let him get targeted any worse." Magnus slowly made his way to Jasper's side, brushing fingers lightly through the other's hair. "It would have been nice. No longer having to hide."

"Don't hide. I'm sure after taking down the prisons he'll have a large target. Not sure you'd make it bigger."

"I defected. I'm a traitor now. They'd burn this world down just to get me." Magnus shook his head. "Not right to put him at more risk." He dropped his hand, then blinked his eyes slowly at the syringe in his elbow. "Wha-?"

Callie pulled him back to the bed and got him laying down again.

A while later, Jasper stirred. He stared at the ceiling for a few minutes, the memories rushing back brought on by seeing his old warden. He tried to push them away as he stood and moved to sit beside Magnus.

The aquakinetic tossed his head back and forth slowly, eyes squeezed shut and his forehead furrowed.

Callie poured energy into him to try to help.

Jasper watched quietly, wishing he could calm Magnus himself.

"JASPER! Don't die…"

"Shh, everything is okay." Jasper said softly.

Magnus' head turned to face Jasper although his eyes didn't open.

"We're safe for now, okay?" Jasper added.

Magnus nodded, stilling into sleep.

"He's afraid he'll cause you issues if he stays. He needed to rest more though so I sedated him," Callie informed.

Jasper nodded slowly, "I'm the leader of the Chosen, not much more of a target I can get."

Callie shrugged, "Thank you for saving us."

"Thank you for saving us." Jasper replied.

She nodded.

"You can go back to your room now. If they haven't assigned you one, ask the guards."

Callie nodded and disappeared.

Jasper sighed and watched Magnus sleeping, confused at his feelings over the man.

Magnus blinked his eyes open, a smile appearing as he saw Jasper. "You look better."

"So do you. Thank you.. for helping me fight him."

"You're quite welcome. Never did like him. One of the biggest assholes I've ever met."

"At least you never had to deal with his torture." Jasper replied.

"I wish I could have prevented that." Magnus said softly.

Jasper shrugged, "At least I escaped eventually. Gave him lots of trouble before that, though that usually meant I got to spend a lot of time in solitary or the special room."

"You too?" Magnus sat up slowly.

Jasper frowned a moment before sighing and looking down, "At least it beat being with my parents."

"Ouch. Guessing that was bad too? At least you knew they were assholes. You didn't get the joy of finding out when you were thirteen that they hated everything you were." Magnus stood and stretched.

"That sucks. No, I knew they were assholes from a young age. Ran away after they attempted to kill me when I was seven, then got scooped up by the agents and taken to a prison." Jasper answered quietly.

"Point me towards them. I'll turn them into icicles."

Jasper just shrugged, "Not sure where they are or if they're even alive anymore. Never cared to look."

"Well, if we ever run into them.." Magnus's eyes darkened.

"So.. are you staying? The girl said you tried to leave earlier. I understand if you don't want to stay but don't just leave over me. I'm literally a walking target already. The base gets attacked almost daily trying to get us. We have pretty good defenses though.." Jasper trailed off.

Magnus looked down. "I..don't want to. But I can't have what I want. I never can."

"Why?"

"Because people like me don't get happiness. They get used and then die."

Jasper looked at him a moment before asking, "What do you mean?"

"I mean..I'm gay..Nobody will ever love me. They'll just use me for their own purposes and when they're done..I'll die."

"There's plenty of gay people who won't just use you." Jasper said softly. "And I know how you feel about not being loved.. Physically, I'm not really male.. but emotionally I am and I try to represent as one.. but gay people won't want me since I'm not a real guy, and straights won't want me because I'm not fully a girl.."

"I..want you." Magnus clapped a hand over his mouth, looking at Jasper in terror. "I'm sorry! Don't hurt me!"

"I'm not going to hurt you," Jasper assured, "Though not entirely sure why you want me.. You barely know me. But.. I.. there's something about you." He shook his head and looked down, "You deserve better than me."

"That's my line."

"You.. You're a hero. You were seen as one in some ways by your side. But you found out what that side was really doing and you helped rescue people. You're amazing. I'm just seen as the villain no matter what I do. The other side sees me as one because of my powers, what I am, and position as leader. My side.. they think I'm too nice, not wanting to hurt anyone on the other side.."

"YOU are the hero! You've been trying to spare people's lives, saving people.." He sat down hard. "I hurt people. I was just a pawn, a figurehead to rob people of their lives. How many people died because of me?"

Jasper crouched in front of him. "You didn't know the truth. It wasn't your fault."

"Does it really matter?"

"Yes." Jasper said softly. He moved forward slowly and gently pressed his lips to Magnus'.

Magnus' eyes went wide for a moment, then he was kissing Jasper hungrily.

After they parted, Jasper whispered, "I want you too."

"Really?"

"Really. I'll never use you. Never lie to you. I don't deserve you, but I'll spend everyday trying to earn you and showing you how much I care. If you'll let me.."

Tears welled up in Magnus' eyes. "I'll try to be perfect for you.."

"You don't have to be perfect. Just be you."

Magnus stared at him. "I have to be perfect. No one will let me live if I'm not."

"Magnus.. I'm not others. I'm not going to make you be perfect. I just want you, as you are."

"I.."

"I know you've been treated one way for a long time. But let me be the one to show you not everyone is like that. I was like you once, in a way. Thought no one would ever accept me as a person. But one person showed me otherwise, and they helped make me who I am now."

"Where are they now?"

"Last time I saw them, they were taken. Not sure if they are still alive.."

"I had a friend once. They helped me hide my sexuality. They were killed in training..no, that's wrong! They were murdered in training because they failed a fake mission." Magnus' hand began to ice over as he got angry.

Jasper gently took his hand, "I'm sorry that happened. I wish I could bring them back for you."

"I withdrew after that. It was my fault he got killed. He failed because of me.."

"I'm sorry. I know I can't replace him, but I'm here for you."

"Why aren't you afraid of me?" Magnus looked at him. "I could kill you on accident."

"I don't care. I trust you, and I'd rather spend time with you while I can than stay away in fear."

"But.."

"Like I said, I'm not the others. I'm me and I do things my way."

Magnus chuckled slightly, then shivered.

"Let's get you warmed up." Jasper said softly. He paused for a moment then nodded to himself and led Magnus out of the medbay. He took him down a long hall of doors, finally opening the one at the end of the hall. A large bedroom met their eyes, dark red bed stark against the black walls. "Um.. so you can have your own room if you want. But this is my room and I have a lot of blankets.."

"Why would I want my own room?" Magnus gave him a soft smile before shivering once again. "And don't worry about me..I'll be alright."

Jasper pulled him inside, closed the door and pushed Magnus into the bed. He pulled out a few blankets from the closet and covered the other man. He then sat down beside him. He opened his mouth to talk but his eyes glazed over. He stayed like that for a moment before his eyes went back to normal before wincing and holding his head.

"Are you alright?!" Magnus' voice was worried.

"Don't worry.. just a vision.."

"Good or bad?"

"Warden Asshole is still alive."

"Oh hell no..Move out of the way." Magnus snarled furiously.

"Based on my headache, we won't run into him for a few months." Jasper paused, "Headache is worse the further into the future I see.. Didn't get much this time except we were fighting him.."

"Not my plan. I'm going to freeze him solid like I should have."

"We'll see." Jasper answered quietly.

"Move."

Jasper frowned, "You need to warm up."

"I need to kill that asshole before he hurts you again!"

"You don't even know where to find him now."

"Don't care. I want his ass. Now." He reddened. "Not the way it sounds. He wouldn't ever be my type if he was bathed and perfumed."

Jasper chuckled slightly before sighing, "I guess I'm in no position to stop you from going. Just wish you'd stay. But if you need it you can take one of the helicopters or a van. I can go too, if you want.."

"I don't want you hurt."

"I know.. but you aren't going to find him today."

"How are you so sure?"

"My visions haven't ever been wrong. I guess there's the possibility they could be changed.. but I've never seen it happen."

"Oh.." Magnus deflated as his anger dissipated. "In that case, would you.." He shook his head. "Nevermind."

"What? You can ask," Jasper said softly.

"Hold me? I seem to be colder than usual."

"Of course." Jasper moved and wrapped his arms around Magnus. He then rested his head on the other's shoulder.

Magnus sighed and closed his eyes.
