Aphelios sighs as he places his suitcase on the pavement, staring at the double doors in front of him. This is where he was going to spend the next few years of his studies, in this…house? Dorm? Building? Whatever it was, he didn't want to be here, really. Unfortunately, his guardian, Diana donated quite a hefty amount of money to this prestigious college, so as a means of thanking her, Aphelios was offered to study here, for free. It's not as if Aphelios wouldn't fit in here, he just wasn't a person for socialising, his old school being extremely strict, no one talked to each other. The only interaction he ever had to do was when he had to answer questions from professors.
But this school…. was bustling with social interactions. Just the drive here he saw countless students huddled up into their cliques, chatting, laughing, and doing what typical young adults do. He wasn't accustomed to these things. Aphelios always kept to himself and Alune, his special AI he designed. It was kind of sad to think that his only 'friend' was an AI he made, but he honestly didn't care to have any friends. But now? Now he was forced to live with a bunch of people he didn't even know. Taking a deep breath, he holds his wrist up to his face, staring down as his watch to see his AI smile back at him. "You can do this, Phel! I'm sure you'll make friends with your new roommates in no time!", Alune chirped.
A faint smile crept on his pale face as he nodded in response to her. He didn't really believe he would be friends with them, but even though she's an AI, it was nice to hear someone believe in him like that. Aphelios reaches down and grabs his suitcase off the ground, slowly approaching the doors to his new life. The closer he got to the door, the more his stomach felt like it was about to fall out of his ass. Maybe none of the other students would be home? He was transferring in the middle of the day, hopefully they're all in class and he can avoid human interaction for a little longer.
Aphelios closes his eyes, nodding once more, preparing himself for the worst of running into new people and finally opens the door. 'Dear god what fresh hell is this?'. The second he opens the door he's greeted by a bare ass, zooming right past him. 'what the fuck? I already hate it here', Aphelios thinks, following the blond blur of a boy, running after another student who clearly stole his clothes.
"GIVE THEM BACK SETTTTT. I NEED THOSE.", The very unashamed blond cries, hoping that the large redhaired…vastayan? would give him back his clothes.
"FUCK NO.", Responded the other blur, sticking his middle finger up to the distressed boy.
Both circle back to running past Aphelios as the naked one trips over his suitcase and falls face first right onto the hardwood floor. "Owwwwwwwww! Who the fuck put this suit- oh." He looked up at Aphelios, clearly annoyed by the boob who just tripped over him, not even realising he was there.
"U-Uh..sorry there dude. Didn't know you'd be showin' up already." The clothes thief approached them, dropping the clothes on the blond's head. "There ya go Ez, can't have you be bare assed in front of new company n' shit."
Aphelios looked back down to "Ez", hardly moving from his spot on the floor. He simply sighed, rolling his eyes as he picked up his suitcase, and just walked over his body, heading to the stairs to find his room.
"Hey man! Slow down!" The larger student chased after him, stopping his movements with his arm. Aphelios smacks into his chest, and he immediately turns to face the man the arm belongs to, staring him down with nothing but pure annoyance that he's been stopped.
"Woah. Nice tats you've got there. Are…are you part of the Lunari stuff that chick Diana is in?" The male chimed, staring at the dark crescent shape on Aphelios' eye, and the stripe from his lip to his chin.
"Thanks. And yes. Now please let me go." The Lunari responds bluntly, just wanting this interaction to end, although he would be lying if he said his stomach wasn't doing somersaults while he was talking to this large man.
"Well at least let me make your day better by showing ya your room. The name's Sett by the way.", He grins, showing his intimidatingly sharp teeth. Reluctantly, Aphelios nods, following Sett up the stairs to his room.
They pause in front of the door to Aphelios' room. "Well…here ya go. If ya need anythin' I'm just next door", Sett pats his back, almost causing the smaller man to fall over. As quickly as possible, Aphelios barges into his room and slams the door shut, not even looking back to the vastayan that helped him. He drops his belongings right next to the door and immediately flops onto his bed. "This is actually just hell on earth.", he mutters to himself.
"Cheer up, Phel. It can't be that bad", the soft, feminine voice echoing from his wrist. Aphelios just groans in response, rolling over in his bed, shutting his eyes tightly, trying to imagine himself far, far, far away from here.
Beep. Beep. Beep.
"Phel! Phel! It's time for you to wake up!" Alune chimes, in time with the alarm beeping.
"Mmmm…No…I don't want to", dreading having to talk to his other roommates and start classes, he pulls the blanket over his head. Why did Diana have to make him go here? What is he going to learn from this? How to be a normal person? His train of thought is interrupted by loud banging on his door.
"Hey! New meat! It's time to get up!" bellowed a voice he didn't recognise.
"Shut the fuck up Rhaast. Let the kid sleep. He had to see Ezreal's pasty ass yesterday. He probably doesn't even wanna fucking see our faces, let alone come out of his room.", responded another unfamiliar voice.
God. Just how many people lived in this damn house? And are they all this fucking noisy? Aphelios struggles to find his other pillow on his bed and tries to drown out the other students with it. At least they had the decency to leave him alone.
Eventually, the Lunari crawled out of bed once he had heard the rest of the house empty. Alone at least. Fucking peace and god damn quiet. His first class wasn't for a few more hours, so he had some time to kill. He starts to disrobe and wraps a towel around himself. He needs to shower, maybe it'll help him relax after the horror that he witnessed yesterday. Running his hand through his hair, he makes his way to his door to go to the bathroom, till he's stopped suddenly in his tracks. He felt his face crash into something hard, that felt like a massive wall…but it was also very…. warm?
"Owwww….fuck" Aphelios curses, rubbing his nose, taking a step back from what he just bashed his face into.
"Oh shit! Sorry little guy."
Aphelios freezes, staring up at Sett. He ran into…him? Here he was thinking some jerk just put a whole wardrobe in front of his door as a prank, but no. He just ran into a big hulking mass of a vastayan. Slowly his eyes make it up to Sett's face, who is clearly checking him out, causing him to try and cover himself with his hands. Sett just laughs at his attempt, his smug grin getting wider at Phel's attempts.
"Don't worry, I'm not gonna tell anyone about how hot ya look topless." Sett winks, staring down at Aphelios' body, nice and toned, covered by more purple markings. Sett wasn't going to admit those tattoos did something to him, they just looked so damn good on his body. He shakes his head before he starts drooling and his pants get too tight for him. Aphelios turns away from Sett, too embarrassed to say anything to him, his face getting pinker by the second.
"Are you…blushing moon boy?"
"N-No!"
"Ya so are." Sett teases, leaning closer to him. "Deny it all ya want, but ya not hiding anything from me."
Aphelios frowns, glaring back up at Sett. "I'm not blushing.", he retorts, pushing Sett back trying to move past him. "Leave me alone.", he mutters, hastily walking to the bathroom and immediately locking the door. He lets out a breath he didn't know he was holding, holding onto his chest. God, why was he so flustered? Why was he this riled up by just running into him? What was happening to him? Confused at his own feelings, Aphelios just shook his head, trying not to think too hard about it, and just proceeded to shower.
"Ya better not be ticklin' yer pickle in there, moon boy! We share that bathroom." Sett almost yells, making sure Aphelios hears him as he goes past the bathroom to go downstairs and stuff himself with food.
"I AM NOT" Aphelios responds, coughing after screaming so loud.
Drying his hair off with his towel, Aphelios makes his way downstairs, glancing over to the kitchen to see one of his many irritating roommates stuffing his face.
"mm..oh! heyyy" Sett barely manages to say. Disgusted with the primal ways of his eating, Aphelios just nods as he heads to the door to leave.
"Wait man! You didn't eat, did you? I bet yer hungry."
"mm…watching you eat made me lose my appetite."
Sett scoffs at Aphelios' retort, throwing a sandwich over to him. "At least take this then, so your stomach doesn't rumble really loud in class."
Aphelios catches the sandwich and stuffs it immediately into his jacket pocket, "Thanks.", he murmurs as he leaves.
"Man, he sure is a weirdo." Sett comments, before continuing to eat half the food in the fridge.
Walking to his first class, Aphelios sighs, looking down at his wrist to see Alune's comforting eyes. "Cheer up Phel, I know you don't like it here, but give this place a chance! That Sett guy seems nice!" The Lunari rolls eyes his, half smiling at Alune, "I guess…but he's got way too much energy for me."
"Maybe that's just what you need! A little more energy, get you feeling happy. You've spent so much time alone Phel, it's time to let someone else in."
She might be right, but he wasn't ready to admit that. He was always alone, and he kind of liked it that way, even if he would sometimes be lonely. It's just what he was used to, he wasn't supposed to have a normal childhood, only ever learning how to kill and be useful to the Lunari people. He sighed. It was going to take a lot for him to change that, and it honestly kind of scared him to think about it. The people around here didn't seem to be his type of people, but then again what were? Finally making it to his first class, he finds the very first available seat and sits down, leaning on his desk, resting his head on his arms, staring out at the window.
"Oh, hey it's the new kid!" A semi-familiar voice comes from the boy that sat next to him, adjusting the gauntlet on his arm. Aphelios turns his head slightly to see who was trying to talk to him. Oh. It's the naked guy from yesterday.
"S-Sorry that your first encounter with me was…well you know…weird" Ezreal awkwardly smiles, rubbing the back of his head. "Sett's kinda…a big bully to me hahaha, b-but not in a bad way! In the…we're real close in our house and we kinda just do pranks on each other like that all the time"
Aphelios just listens to Ezreal ramble on about the shenanigans they all get up to. Staring half interested at the blonde cheerily going on, until he realised, he stopped talking. He was just staring at Aphelios now, with such expectant eyes. Did he ask me a question? He wonders, "uh…what?"
"What's your name, bro! You never told us yesterday, and I haven't seen you till now. Mine's Ezreal, if you didn't hear, but I'm sure you've heard of me, everyone's heard of me!", He so proudly announces.
"Aphelios." He answers, barely looking up from his desk.
"And I'm Alune!", the voice coming from a little hologram above Aphelios' wrist.
"W-Woah! You got yourself some fancy stuff there Aphelios- can I call you Phel? It's so much easier to say than saying your whole name. It's kind of a mouthful…b-but it's a cool name!"
"I call him Phel all the time! I'm sure he wouldn't mind." Alune smiles at the blond boys attempts to befriend Aphelios. He groans at the two being so cheery and simply responds, "Sure, I guess."
"Sweet! I'm sure we'll be good friends soon, Phel!" Ezreal smiles, holding out his hand which Aphelios reluctantly shakes.
Ezreal spent the rest of the class taking Aphelios' ear off. He kept asking him questions, making idle chatter, trying to be his friend. Aphelios was a little overwhelmed, no one had asked this many questions about him before, he wasn't sure he even had anything to say back to the guy. Did I have a favourite colour? Food? TV show? Did I even watch TV? What the fuck do I do in my spare time?
"Uh…I haven't really thought about it." Was his response to most of Ezreal's questions. He didn't seem to mind that Phel didn't answer the way he wanted to, he enjoyed that he responded at all. After what felt like a long interrogation class had ended.
"Hey, Phel. Do you wanna walk back to our house together? Are you done for the day too?" Aphelios simply nodded. He didn't really want to spend even more time with Ezreal, but at the same time, the walk back couldn't hurt. And at least this way, he's keeping Alune happy by somewhat trying to make a friend, even if she was an AI, he didn't want to listen to her scold him.
"So….", Ezreal starts, as they walk to their house, "have you met the rest of the group? I know you met Sett and I."
Aphelios just shook his head, looking down at his shoes dragging on the sidewalk.
"Well time to change that! I'm sure everyone's there already, we can properly introduce you, Phel.", Ezreal smiled, real excited to introduce him to the rest of the rowdy bunch. He then decided to ramble on about what the rest of the people in the house were like. Having not met any of them though, it was just gibberish to Aphelios. Useless gibberish, but also a good reminder of how much of a headache they're going to be to him. Once they had made it to the front door, Ezreal glanced over to Aphelios, who was fiddling with his jacket's sleeves.
"You nervous, Phel?", Ezreal asked, tilting his head a little to try and look at Phel's face.
"W-What? No, I'm fine" he mumbled, tugging on his sleeve more.
"Do you just fidget a lot then? You've been tugging on your sleeve this whole time." If it wasn't dark out and he wasn't already struggling to see his face, Ezreal could've sworn he saw it turn pink. Aphelios was too flustered to answer straight away and continued to tug on his sleeve. He brought his hands to his face, covered by his seemingly on purpose way too long for his arms sleeves and sighed. "I-I'm not nervous or anything…let's just get this over with."
"Alright! If you say so! I'm sure everyone's going to love you!", said Ezreal, with the biggest grin on his face as he put his hand on Aphelios' shoulder and squeezed him. He then swung the door open, almost making it smash into the wall with how fast it was going and yelled, "I'M HOME BITCHES. Missed me?" He yells, as he strides into the house, dragging Aphelios with him to see his roommates in the living room, bickering over who is cheating in Mario Kart. Aphelios looked around the room very briefly before keeping his eyes on the television. He felt Ezreal wrap one of his arms around his waist, pulling him towards the blond show off, "I thought it would be time for you guys to meet our new roomie." he beamed, nudging Aphelios.
Aphelios gave a weak little wave with his sleeve covered hand, trying not to die at how close his new 'friend' was to him. He didn't like touching other people, let alone being this close to someone he just met today. Nevertheless, the lunari didn't move away from Ezreal's hold, he figured it would be easier to not make a fuss over something so minimal.
"Damn Ezreal, he's been here for 24 hours and you're already trying to bed him?", Commented one of the males on the couch, pushing himself off and approaching Aphelios. He stared up at his eyes, noticing the different colours, and the scar on his face. Aphelios thought it was kind of cool, but also made the guy look very intimidating. Kayn noticed the Lunari staring and smirked, cupping his chin and leaned in close to him, "Like what you see, cupcake? Guess you're fresh out of luck Ez, new kid has his eyes on me." Aphelios immediately shut his eyes, he really wasn't enjoying being touched by this many people.
"Oh my god shut up Kayn. You know I only have eyes for Lux!" Ezreal rolled his eyes and pushed Kayn away. "You need to keep it in your pants, you fucking horn dog." Kayn merely laughed at Ezreals comment, plonking himself back on the couch. "So, what's your name cupcake? Or should I just keep calling you cupcake?"
"Aphelios.", he bluntly responded, wishing this nightmare would end.
"My my, what a pretty name for a pretty face." Aphelios turned away from Kayn as he was starting to get visibly flustered from all this new attention he was getting. "Well, my names Kayn, or anything else you wanna call me." Kayn winked, which rewarded him with a pillow being thrown real hard at his head.
"HEY! I know that was you, Ekko!"
"Nah for once, it actually wasn't."
"Bullshit, you're the only one who cares enough to throw anything at me."
"I'm so serious! It wasn't me!" Ekko threw his hands up in surrender, hoping it would convince Kayn that it wasn't him.
"Then who the fuck threw it?" Everyone in the room glanced at each other, shrugging, not knowing who the phantom pillow thrower was.
"Oh well.", chimed in Ezreal, trying to get the group back on topic, "I'll go around the room and introduce them all to you, Phel", he said as he started pointing and saying their names, "Obviously this edgy braided bitch is Kayn, the one next to him is Yone, he doesn't talk much, and the cool guy on the other couch is Ekko. You've already met Sett, and I don't see him anywhere."
"Where the fuck is the bastard?" Asked Kayn as he scanned the room.
"I'm right here you blind bitch." Sett responded, coming from the kitchen, looking visibly annoyed as he threw another pillow at Kayn, but this time a lot harder than the last.
"Owww! So it was you?! You ass!"
"You know it baby." Sett said smugly as he got behind Kayn and put him into a headlock. Aphelios couldn't help but let out a little laugh at the sight of Kayn struggling to get out of the vastayan's hold. Setts ears perked up at the sound leaving the Lunari. He then tightened his grip on his poor victim.
"Let me go you fucking brute! You're going to kill me!" Sett snorted as he watched Kayn squirm, trying to pull Setts bulky arms away so he can breathe.
"Well, Phel. This is gonna be your makeshift family for a while." Ezreal turned to look at Aphelios, watching him look at Sett in such a tender way. 'Maybe the new guy does have his eyes on someone, but it sure as fuck isn't Kayn.' The blond thought, as he nudged Aphelios with his shoulder, breaking the trance he was in.
"H-Huh? O-Oh…Yeah." Aphelios stuttered, hoping Ezreal didn't notice him staring. "I-I'm just gonna go to my room now. Nice meeting you all and stuff." He mumbled, barely audible to anyone but Ezreal, and Sett.
"Later dude!" Ezreal waved, smiling brightly at the shy Lunari disappearing to his room.
"Man, he totally wants me." Kayn smirked, finally giving up on trying to leave Sett's hold. Sett yanked on his braid, making him yelp. "What the fuck is your problem!"
"Hm? Nothing. This is what I always do." Replied Sett, letting go of Kayn shoving him as he walked away. Kayn squinted at the vastayan, who looked more serious than he has ever been. He knew something was up with him since this was so out of character for the brute to ever be serious about anything. This just gives Kayn more opportunities to cause chaos in the group, he thought, his squint turning into a sheepish grin.
Ezreal shook his head and sighed, "You guys should seriously be nicer to each other, at least in front of Phel. You guys scared the poor guy away. Why can't you guys be like me, the peak example of gentleman! I'm always nice and everyone loves me."
"Yeah! Don't worry about them Ez, they just don't know how to be proper like you and I." Ekko wrapped an arm around the blond, "We just have to set a good example for them to follow." He beamed, flustering Ezreal. Both Kayn and Sett blankly stared at each other, then back at the other two and shrugged. They had no idea what was going on, nor did they really care. They don't see anything wrong with what they just did, they were always picking on each other like that. Sett did feel a little bad however, that he might have scared away Aphelios. He wanted to get to know him more, and he didn't want to sabotage that in any way.
"Sooooo…..back to Mario Kart so I can kick everyone's ass?" Asked Kayn, breaking the silence.
"I'd like to see you try, string bean." Sett picked up a controller, getting ready to beat up Kayn again.
Far into the evening, once Aphelios could tell everyone had gone to bed, he climbed out his window to sit on the roof. He brought his knees to his chest and rested his chin on them, staring up at the bright moon, shining down on him. He felt at peace up here, alone with only his thoughts and the moon, it was comforting. The lunari shuddered, feeling the cold breeze hit his face.
"Are you alright, brother? You look sad." The little hologram asked, feeling concerned, and a little helpless that she couldn't do much if he was sad.
Aphelios shook his head, "I'm alright, Alune. Just a little homesick."
"I know I can't physically be with you, brother. But just know I will try to support you as best I can, even if I am just an AI." Her words hurt his heart. He knew this wasn't Alune, even as authentic as she was. He missed her, the real Alune. He shook his head, not wanting to think too hard about sad things like that.
"You already do a lot for me Alune, just having you here is enough." He let go of his legs and stretched. Looking down at Alune, he gave a small smile, hoping to comfort her. Alune smiled back, feeling reassured Aphelios was fine. Aphelios reached into his pocket, grabbing his phone, staring down at his lock screen. It was a picture he took before he left Targon of him and Alune, cheekily holding up a pair of pants. He's never smiled like that again, but he hoped one day he could.
"When was that photo taken, brother?" the AI asked, curious if there was a story behind the image.
"It was one of the last times we had to train together. Since it was the last lesson, we stole our instructors' pants when he wasn't looking. I'd never seen Alune enjoy herself that much before, over something so dumb.", he paused, putting his phone back in his pocket and let out a breath he didn't know he was holding. "We never really did anything normal kids do. It was refreshing to see Alune have fun, it's a memory I hold onto dearly, especially since it's one of my last with her." He stared back up at the moon, hoping that one day he would see her again, maybe praying to mother moon would make that dream come true. But till then, he must make it through his school life. It's not like he doesn't have AI Alune to guide him, maybe he just misses her warmth.
Alune floated towards his face, reaching out to caress his cheek. "I know I'm not the same, but I am here, brother. We will get through this together." She smiled.
"Thank you, Alune. I know. I'm counting on it." He smiled back, holding out his pinky for her to grab. Even if he hates it, at least he has Alune to bring comfort to it.
"Besides," she paused, her smile turning into a smug grin, "I saw you looking at that redhead earlier. Your pulse was rising too. Looks like I might not be the only one to make you happy anymore." She winked, watching her brother stutter as his face turned beet red.
"I-…I don't know what you're talking about! I was just nervous meeting new people was all." He pouted, burying his face back into his knees. Alune laughed at his reaction, knowing full well it wasn't just nerves.
"We'll see. Would be nice to see you be all lovey dovey to someone though" she mused, nudging his shoulder. "You never know what the moon has in your orbit, brother."
That thought terrified him, he really didn't know how this new life was going to be.
