Hello! This is the first time I'm starting a story in a long time (five years, maybe six, honestly I'm terrible at math XD) but it's a plot bunny that wouldn't leave my brain until it spewed out on my screen. A few things you'll want to know about this story before you start reading:

-The first few chapters will be a bit like the first few chapters of my other story, A Marauder's Daughter, in that they'll be faster paced so you'll be able to see the important parts of Hermione's first few years of school before the story slows down and really starts to take root in fourth/fifth year.

-Hermione and Draco are NOT related. I won't explain why now because it does play a bit of a role later on but just know that they aren't related and they will never think they are related in this fic.

-Bellatrix's age is a little different in my stories universe. She's the same age as Regulus instead of being older than Sirius.

-I'm already about seventy pages into this story (probably about halfway through) so you won't have to worry about any chapter delays for a good while (hopefully at all). Chapters will go up every Friday.

That's everything I can think of for right now, please feel free to leave a review or PM me with any questions! If I think of anything else, I'll post it next chapter. Hope y'all like the first chapter, even if it's a bit smaller than the others!

Love,

Adrien

Disclaimer: I, sadly, don't own anything recognizable, I wouldn't be taking out students loans if I did. Everything you know belongs to J. .

Chapter One: The Birth of Hermione Jean Granger

"What are you doing here?" Sirius Black growls, his wand held out in front of him and a curse on his tongue. "If you're here to get me to join you, you can-" Her cloak moves and tiny hands reach out from inside it, revealing the beautiful face of a child around the same age as his godson.

"I'm not, Siri, please. I need your help." Sirius's gaze snaps up to hers and for the first time since he had been placed in Hogwarts, he sees the cousin he'd grown up with. The one he'd tried just as hard to protect as his brother.

"Bells," the word is barely more than a whisper but his wand falls to the ground as he opens his arms to her for the first time in years.

Bellatrix LeStrange rushes forward, burying her face in his chest as she cradles the child in between them.

"What do you need me to do?" He asks, brushing her unruly curls from her face as he pulls away just enough to see her.

"I need you to take my daughter away from this. I don't want her growing up like us, in constant fear of not acting in a way that is proper. They already have plans for her, Sirius, and she's not even a year old. They're going to mold her into the perfect weapon to lead the Death Eaters should the Light Side prevail. I just want her to be safe and happy, to grow into the amazing witch that I know she can be, to have the choices that we never did. I want you to hide her away in the muggle world where our war cannot reach her and where she won't be judged for who her parents are when the Light wins."

"What about you? Bells, I can protect you too. I can take you away from this all." Sirius grips her arms, staring desperately into her eyes.

"I've made my bed, Siri. The only thing you can do for me is make sure that my daughter doesn't lay in it beside me." Her eyes plead with his as she presses the child into his arms.

He takes the child into his arms, cradling her gently as the small girl silently stares up at him with the same dark eyes as her mother. "I'll protect her with my life," Sirius states, his eyes meeting his cousin's with a determination more solid than he'd ever had before.

Tears well in Bellatrix's eyes as magic flares around them, binding him to her child with an unspoken promise. She'd never seen an Unbreakable Vow (and she had no doubt that is what this was, she'd seen more than enough of them form in her lifetime to tell the difference) form like that but she didn't question it, Sirius Black had never been one to follow the rules. "Thank you, Siri." Bellatrix hugs her cousin before pulling away and leaning down to press a kiss to her daughter's head for the last time. "I love you more than anything in this world, my little Lyre. You are going to change everything, I just know it, Lyra Helena Black."

"What did we do with our map before leaving Hogwarts?" James Potter questions, his wand pressed firmly into Sirius Black's throat before the other man can even knock on his best friend's front door.

"We placed it in one of Filch's drawers with spells on it so that only someone with Marauder spirit would be able to find and remove it," Sirius responds instantly.

James lowers his wand and ushers the other man into his home, scanning the darkness outside before shutting and warding the door. "What the hell are you doing here in the middle of the bloody night, Padfoot?"

"I need your help," Sirius states, removing his cloak and revealing the small child in his arms.

"Bloody hell, mate! You finally went and did it didn't you! Knocked up some random bird and now they've dropped the kid on your door step-"

"Shut up, James," Sirius growls, glaring at his best friend, and the small child begins crying.

"James Charlus Potter, I cannot believe you are doing this in front of a child," Lilly Potter states calmly as she swoops into the room, the dangerous flashing of her emerald eyes betraying her calm demeanor. "Sirius, why don't you let me take her up and lie her down with Harry then we can have a conversation like adults instead of jumping to baseless conclusions." She shoots her husband a scathing look before holding her arms out to the crying child, her face immediately softening as Sirius hands the little girl over.

Lily begins walking back to her son's room, bouncing the little girl softly as she goes. "Shh, sweet girl," she murmurs, stroking the child's back until she quiets. "That's it, little one, you're perfectly fine." The girl's eyes begin to droop and Lily gently kisses her head before placing her next to Harry in the crib and creeping out of the room.

She doesn't see that the little girl and little boy immediately turn to face the other in their sleep, their little hands reaching out to one another and clasping together in a tight grip.

Lily stares down at the two children in the crib who had somehow managed to wrap their arms and legs around each other in a tight embrace in the time the three adults had been downstairs creating a plan to protect this little girl from a terrible fate, wishing she didn't have to separate them.

"We can't keep her, love," James whispers, wrapping a comforting arm around his wife's waist and kissing her cheek softly.

"I know, I'm just worried about what will happen to her if we lose. They're already attacking muggles and I know Dan would never leave the town we grew up in, he loves it too much. If we lose, they'll be able to reach the edges of the country with no issue."

"Then we won't lose," Sirius states so firmly that no one could deny his certainty. This was just one more reason for them to fight and for Sirius, these two children are what makes this fight personal. He won't let them grow up like he did.

Lily nods, blinking the tears from her eyes as she tightly grips the potion she had just finished brewing in her hand. One that would suppress any inheritable magical abilities (like parseltongue). Gently turning the small girl's head, not wanting to break the two children apart just yet, she pours the potion into the child's mouth and forces her to swallow.

Sirius follows her lead, transfiguring the girl's features according to the picture Lily had showed him of the muggle couple they would be placing this beautiful girl with as James waves intricate designs over the small girl's form in order to makes sure the potion remains active until either her true identity is revealed or she comes of age. Once Sirius has finished transfiguring the small child's features, James charms them to grow with her and to only break at the same time the potion ends.

A large black dog sits at the edge of the forest, hidden in the shadows as he watches Dan and Jean Granger play with their beautiful baby girl. Their miracle child. They'd been on the waiting list with multiple adoption agencies when Jean had gone to the doctor because of a nasty stomach bug that just wouldn't go away only to be told that she was pregnant even though months before they had been told that it was impossible for her to be, that she was infertile. Eight months later, on the 19th of September 1979, she gave birth to their little miracle.

Their little miracle who is almost a year old now and who is loved more than anyone thought possible. Their miracle's name? Hermione Jean Granger.
