Rin and Sesshomaru sat some distance apart with a fire between them as day turned to night. Some years - that Sesshomaru had failed to count (as he was the great dog demon of the west with nonhuman concepts of the passage of time) – had passed after the legendary battle for the sacred jewel. Sesshomaru and company returned to the Western lands to rule over its territory. Frequently, they patrolled their own borders, as life in the castle had failed to provide the excitement they found when in the wilderness... The call of the wind blowing through the trees, the animals rustling, and the energy of the night appealed to all and satiated the need to move.

The human ward, Rin, much like the seasons had changed. Each year she shed her old leaves and grew new, and now she had blossomed into a beautiful young woman. This did not go unnoticed by the Daiyokai; however Sesshomaru prided himself on his rigid self control. Always he continued on, just as though nothing had changed at all. He did make himself sparce though, during the time of her human ovulation. Her scent drastically changed during this window of time. It was perhaps more difficult to ignore than the time of her monthly blood, her scent transitioning from light vanilla and wildflowers to a heavy muskier variation.

It was quite intoxicating.

A human may have missed a slight twitch of his nose as he smelled the air, but Jaken did not. The faithful servant did not acknowledge it, though as he had become accustomed to Rin after all of these years. He feared the impending change should the dynamic of Lord Sesshomaru and Rin's relationship evolve into anything more than its current state. Having the upmost faith in his masters self control, he returned to tending the bright blaze that now illuminated Rin in the most beautiful dancing light.

The cool fall breeze blew, sending a shiver down Rin.

"Rin." Sesshomaru stated rather than questioned.

"Yes, Lord Sesshomaru?" She crossed her arms over her chest and rubbed up and down her arms.

Sesshomaru simply patted the earth next to him, gesturing toward the spot between his own body and the fire. Wasting no time, Rin glided over and sat. She looked sideways at her caller, admiring his profile. He did not look at her, but gazed forward and upward at the cold night sky. The stars were so bright on this night, taking her back to her youth exploring the lands with their motley crew. A strange feeling overtook her as she looked at him. A fire began to blossom in her abdomen, sending tingles down her legs and settling deep between her legs.

Another twitch of the nose and Sesshomaru was suddenly to his feet and walking away without a word. "Lord Sesshomaru?" He did not turn at her voice but disappeared into the trees. This was not abnormal for him, she reflected… Though it was happening surprisingly more often. Rin laid back and stretched out next to the fire, pulling her fur skins over her legs and up under her chin. The soft glow and crackles lulled her to sleep.

Rin awoke with a start as a wolf howled in the distance. Opening her eyes, she looked around the camp. Jaken had settled next to A-Uhn and a bubble inflated as he sawed logs, snoring away without a care in the world. Sesshomaru was still missing. She stood and started in the direction she watched him leave. Silently, she trapsed through the woods with no actual destination or expectation to find him. Sesshomaru frequently disappeared during their travels and often was elusive to find once departed.

A low growl permeated the air. The hair on Rin's neck stood straight up as she slowly turned her head toward the direction. Blackness was all she could see, until the beast took a step closer – the moonlight reflecting off it's eyes. Fear. Rin realized her mistake immediately. The beast took another step toward her, its shoulders lowered and ready to leap. 'Be still' she thought. Her eyes darted around quickly. Maybe if she could dash a few feet to the nearest tree, she could shimmy her way up before it got too close. Stuck is definitely better than dead.

Before she could even lift her foot to move, the beast made its move. Darting straight toward her, Rin froze with fear overtaking her. Closing her eyes, she braced for impact that would never come. In a white blurr, the beast was slain. Rin did not see this, as she stood stick straight, her eyes still closed. 'I'm not dead. Or I am dead and haven't realized, perhaps?' She thought as she slowly cracked one eyelid open.

Lord Sesshomaru stood in front of her, the wolf dead in his hand, its neck snapped. Opening her eyes fully taking in the scene, Rin squealed with delight. "Lord Sesshomaru! Your timing is impeccable!" She gazed upon him – her savior time and time again – and that same familiar burn erupted deep inside of her. Without her realization, her thighs tightened together and her mind swirled.

Another low growl broke the silence.
