Fate's Way
Chapter 0 - An end to a dream, the beginning to another
An impossible dream
A pair of impossible lovers that stretched through time
The sword and the sheathe
A young girl whom took up the sword and has sacrificed her happiness for her kingdom
And a boy whom has the heart of glass, holding up a beautiful ideal that would never come to pass
It isn't a coincidence that they met, it was a destiny decided long ago
Fighting side by side in a war, eventually growing into something more
However came the end, they were separated once more
For them both to meet again as normal people, two miracles must occur
One must wait patiently and endlessly in the dream
While the other pursue the dream search endlessly to hold it
Yet even after knowing the fact, both never faltered in their faith
In the end
His way of life never changed, heart hardened into steel
As for repaying the girl whom he cherishes, it did not happen
And that dream… remained forever a dream, beautiful yet unobtainable
Two miracles have indeed occurred, yet even that wasn't enough
Thus the dream never ended
For that dream took in the shape of another
Once a boy, now a man. The being named Emiya Shirou never faltered in his search, pursuing his beloved Saber and the dream they both believe in without an end. The promise they made that day, he has not forgotten. Many of his memories have become nothing more than vivid dreams, over the decades he has walked through the earth he has traversed through countless battlefields, pursuing his ideals of being a hero of justice, which he promised his father Kiritsugu that night.
"When I was little, I wanted to be a hero of justice."
"Wh _?._ _ou g_e up?"
"Yeah. Bei_ _ _ro is a limited thing"
"?/.?/.,;?/"
"Yeah. Since you couldn't do it. I'll do it for you."
"I'm relieved.."
That promise he made, he vividly recalls promising it to his father, therefore inheriting it. Although in the end, he couldn't fully follow through with it, as within himself he values his promise to Saber more so. But that didn't mean he didn't try his best, he did still follow through his ideals, but he isn't just doing it because it was the right thing to do, in his heart, he also does it, because it was something Saber would approve, and that sparks joy in his heart which has transformed into steel.
He also eventually found out about the true identity of the Servant Archer, whom has given him advice that saved his life countless times, the true identity being of the Heroic Spirit EMIYA. It took a long time, however one day the similarities were too identical to be ignored, and adding to the other facts being their abilities are identical and Archer intimately knowing his weaknesses, and knowing the right advice to give, he eventually put two and two together to get four. If he were still living with Rin in the Clocktower then she would've figured it out sooner, and also probably get a heart attack to one day wake up to her Archer look alike.
Though those days have passed by long ago, the naive Emiya Shirou, and the meddler Tohsaka Rin, is no longer of this world, both have moved on from their adolescent days. There was also Fuji-nee and Sakura, with the death of her father Raiga Fujimura, as his heir, she stopped teaching in Homuhara and took up the mantle as a Yakuza boss, her outgoing and careless personality discarded opted for a professional and serious one, ever since he left to travel around the world, he had only given her a phone call a few times, though that is expected due to both being busy, and that is enough to keep their relationship from completely dying.
Meanwhile, with Sakura they also broke off contact much the same way, Shirou doesn't know what she's up to these days but hopes that she found herself a man to love, it took years but he eventually learned of her crush on him, he might've accepted if I was still the young boy he used to be, but his heart already belongs to Another.
Saber… Everything that has led him to this point in his life is thanks to Saber…. Without her answering to his accidental summoning, he would've died before he walked a single step in his path of becoming a Hero of Justice, without her guiding him, he would've remained weak and being unable to support her in combat, without his promise with her that day….It would've been possible for him to have ended up as Archer… bitter of the world.. Without anyone to help alleviate himself of the pressure of being a Hero of Justice, he might've been crushed by it.
Reminiscing of his past endeavours is a past time of his when not saving others, though no matter what he would never turn back or regret anything, as doing such a thing would be the same as stepping on their trust in me and the things they have endured up to this point, such a thing is simply wrong.
Saber… Her image rather than blurry is etched to his very mind and engraved to the smallest details. The night he summoned Saber…
"Servant Saber, upon your summoning I have come forth."
The image of a young woman comes to his mind, with a slender physique and soft skin, with large green eyes that aren't big enough to be comical, wearing a shining armour made of metal and under it is a dress made of blue cloth.
"Now I ask you, are you my master"
Those words with a meaning that he wasn't able to understand at the time, and now came to cherish those memories.
His promise with Kiritsugu, now that he was no longer as naive, he knew that it is impossible to save everyone, as to save one means not saving another, but it doesn't mean it's wrong, he accepts such a truth, but he follows through it anyway, as while he was doing it he would see the smiles of the people he saves, whilst searching for Saber, it doesn't matter, ultimately even if he strays off the path of a Hero of Justice, he would never stop searching for the girl in knight's armour, and as long as his hands are still empty, it would never stop searching to hold the utopia they both dreamt of.
He didn't know how long he had come, in this seemingly blank place he continues to walk forward, he wouldn't stop searching for her even in the face of the very depths of hell, he never forgot his final moments with her, with the sun rising behind her.
Wanting to meet her once more, and with his resolve of steel, he tried his best to fulfil the promise they made that day, even with his body growing old and unable to continue, he did so anyway resulting in his inevitable doom.
He wanted to protect the smile she had shown, he didn't want the world taking it away especially when he could do something about it, he wanted to protect her from the cruelty of fate, and repay her for all she had done for him, and as such on his dying breath a contract is made.
A voice without an origin
A blue orb of energy manifesting
It spoke to him
"Emiya Shirou, for the opportune to repay your debts to Artoria Pendragon, I offer you to become a Counter Guardian" The voice echoes throughout his mind
Thoughtlessly, with everything he ever wanted laying in front of him, he accepted without thinking about the consequences
"I accept" and as such, he was enveloped with bright light
The contract being made, the being named Emiya Shirou was reborn within fire and steel, becoming a Servant to repay the one who he cherished off his debts...
His mind and body manifested, being summoned from time and space, he stood forward, excited his summoning circle, and spoke his personal chant.
"Trace… ON"
A pair of Chinese falchions are formed, colours similar to the yin yang, a black blade with a red hexagonal pattern, and a white blade with the patterns of waves, he moved forward and deflected the spear that would've ended his master's life.
"The Seventh?" The enemy servant exclaimed with surprise laced in his voice
Shirou strode forward and threw the pair of blades towards the enemy, once more surprising his enemy with the audacity of his actions, the enemy opted to withdraw and retreated outside of the shed.
Now with the enemy no longer in attacking range, he faced towards his master. A blonde girl wearing a school uniform and with a blade both sitting on the floor, with the same large green eyes he knew, he restrained himself from calling her name out.
He spoke the words that would forever be engraved into Artoria's memories.
"Servant Saber. Upon your summoning, I have come forth"
A gentle yet deep voice, with sounds of gears grating, seemingly originating from it. She saw a man with a gentle smile, messy snow-white hair, and steel grey eyes seemingly reflecting a word of gears and blades standing next to the entrance of the shed. Wearing a dark futuristic chest plate, black pants, a red scarf, and metal boots, a dark skin tone, with his exposed arms being muscular while covered with scars accumulated from countless battles.
In most worlds, a boy of red hair and dim golden eyes would meet a knight of silver. However, most doesn't mean all, for in this case, a blonde girl of jade green eyes would meet a man whom is made of swords. With the moonlight shining upon his back, he asks
"I ask of you, are you my Master?"
Reforging an impossible fate, the sword and the sheathe once more met. With a single goal in his mind, the sheathe finally meets his sword once more, even at the cost of his happiness, he will protect hers…
Author's Note:
I really just had some motivation to burn, and been rejecting my wishes of writing a fanfiction for far too long. Originally I planned to write something more unique I suppose, but this is fine as well.
I probably won't be getting anyone to beta it, I mean, I'm not sure if I can get the will to continue it for more than a few chapters, I haven't even reached the 2000 word counts after writing all of this, I suppose it is just supposed to be a prologue to explain our current Shirou here, we'll be starting it all from Arturia's POV next time starting from the days before Shirou's summoning if possible, but that's just hopeful thinking.
Anyway if you still haven't got it, then this Shirou is Fate Route(True Ending) Shirou, I haven't finished watching OtakuDaikun yet, so I might revise it in the future if I sense inconsistencies.
I should probably start referring to him as Saber now. Anyway, Saber's stats would be slightly better than Archer's, as he's summoned as Saber, so cheers! I'll probably change the other servants, but who knows.
