Prologue - Night Fall

As the sun fell below the horizon the flow of blood from my arm slowed to a stop as the wound rapidly closed, leaving no trace of the gaping wound inflicted not even an hour ago. My nails sharpened, my muscles grew denser, every one of my senses heightened and the once silent forest filled with the sounds of death and bloodshed. I'd gone through this hundreds of times, but I could never get used to the sensation. I wiped the blood from my lips and stared at the stain left on my hand.

"That should hold me over for a while."

I could hear three of them approaching fast. It wasn't surprising considering the scent trail I left with my blood. I readied my sword and breathed deeply. I leaped forward just as my first assailant broke the tree line into my field of vision. Using form one, ravenous maul, I made four powerful slashes, severing his limbs and kicked him towards his two companions. The other two came to a stop as their over eager friend collided with them.

"I'll only say this once. If you value your life, turn around and go back into hiding. I don't want to kill you if I don't have to."

Their growls only grew louder resembling that of a rabid animal more so than the humans they formerly were. The first stumbled back to his feet as his limbs regrew. All three readied themselves to charge at me once more.

"So be it." I twisted my sword around from its serrated edge to its smooth blade and took up form 4, closing my eyes. I could hear all three rush me in unison. I waited until they were within arms reach before I took a step forward and cleaved through each of their necks in one swift motion. I didn't open my eyes until the smell of ash dissipated. Night two of the demon slayer final selection had begun.
