Summary: "But, in the Caribbean, this was ideal weather for a midnight swim." Jack enjoys a well-earned break. Short one-shot.

Prompt: One character goes for a night swim. Everything can go smoothly, or everything can go wrong in the best way possible. Will another character mistakenly think they're drowning and "rescue" them? Will it shower gently and the character finally has a relaxing day off? Who knows?

A/N: Because Jack deserves a break after all the crazy things I put him through. Also, as a side note, I find it hilarious that the person who wrote the prompt wanted to give a character a day off on a night swim. How does that one work?

An Ideal Life

His powerful arms stroked through the shadowy waters, propelling him forward. The moon shone down on him, highlighting the glistening droplets of water on his skin and the crests of the gentle waves. It silhouetted the outline of a dark ship that had moored on the island nearby, making the beautiful craftsmanship of the vessel seem ominous in the night-darkened environment. The soft breeze in the air brought a slight chill, as did the light drizzle falling from the sparse clouds. But, in the Caribbean, this was ideal weather for a midnight swim.

As he dove beneath the black surface, he found the water around him lighting up a brighter, neon blue. This brighter color followed his movements, leaving a trail of his path in the darkness. His eyes glimpsed similar trails left behind by the native fish and some of the smaller finned creatures. He blinked in appreciation of the sight.

When he surfaced, streams of neon water slipped down his bare chest and dripped into the dark topside waters, vanishing below the black waves. He shivered against the breeze, but the gentle showers brought his skin relief against the cold. The moonlight glinted off one of his golden teeth as he smiled contently.

Now this was a pirate's life if he'd ever seen one.
