"Good morning, Champ." said someone in particular. I opened my eyes. I was in my crib as Stu and Didi hung a banner that said, HAPPY BIRTHDAY in yellow letters on it. "Happy birthday, Tommy." they said. Stu blew a noisemaker and threw confetti, which landed on me, wearing a red shirt rather than the light blue one I would wear later. "You're a whole year old today." announced Didi. "And boy, have we got some great presents for you." added Stu. I giggled as Didi picked me up. Didi then kissed me on my forehead. I giggled as Didi laid me down on my changing table. She pulled up my shirt, and as Stu talked to her, she untaped my dirty diaper. I cooed as Didi changed my diaper.] "Wait till' he sees my present, Didi." said Stu. "Did I tell you about the Hoverama prototype?" "Uh-huh, you did, Stu." answered Didi. "Picture this, Didi." said Stu. "The body's thirty-six inches long and about four feet diameter and..." Before Stu could finish, Didi lifted my legs. "Yikes!" "Oh, just put it in the pail, Stu, and hand me a fresh diaper!" advised Didi. Stu picked up my dirty diaper and dropped it in the diaper pail. After I was put in a clean diaper, Stu picked up a pair of blue overalls. Didi put me in the overalls, which only covered my diaper. "Anyway, the Hoverama's got three hundred pounds of lift and cruises at more than five miles an hour." "Coochie-coo..." said Didi. I grabbed Didi's earring and pulled on it. "It's got three reverse thrusters, and two on the back to turn the thing." advised Stu. "Let go of Mommy's earring, honey! Ow! Ow ow ow!" ordered Didi as she walked out of my bedroom, carrying me, who was still pulling on her earring. "It takes 3 D batteries, two AAs, a C, and one of those 9-volt guys, and that's not even including the remote control!" "Mommy's ear's not a toy, honey!" screamed Didi as she walked into the kitchen, where Lou is standing on a ladder, putting up a decoration. Stu followed Didi into the kitchen. "This toy is destined for big things. It's my greatest invention yet." announced Stu "I tell you, Didi, it's gonna put Pickles Toys on the map!" I let go of Didi's earring as Didi handed me to Stu. "Okay! Let's see what the book says." She wondered as she picked up a book that said, LIPSCHITZ GUIDE PERFECT PARENTS and flipped through it. "Eating technique, age twelve months." Stu opened a jar of strained carrots and pours it into Tommy's bowl. Didi walked up to Stu. "Stu, we're supposed to distract Tommy with a little play acting." Didi said. And then, she handed Stu a space shuttle-shaped spoon. "We pretend that this spoon is actually..." "A space shuttle?" interrupted Stu. "Lipschitz knows best, Stu. Now, let's try it." Didi finished as she closed the book as Stu scoops up the strained carrots with the spoon. "Okay, Tommy, open the pod bay door!" I flinched. "A little to the left, Stu." ordered Didi. Stu moved the spoon to the left. "Stu, let's do the birthday checklist." advised Didi. Stu picked up the clipboard on the table. "Okay, shoot." he said to his wife. "Um, carrot brand cake with health nuggets." she whispered. "Check." replied Stu. "Pin the tail on the donkey." suggested Didi to Stu who then said "Safety version with suction cups, check." I gasped when I saw some pens in Stu's pocket. "The puppet show?" asked Didi as I took a red highlighter out of Stu's pocket. "Oh, yeah. Puppeteers, stage, props, and puppets arrive at eleven." said Stu. "Perfect!" said Didi. as she and Stu kiss each other as I chewed on Stu's highlighter. "A puppet show for one-year-olds?" asked Grandpa "Why, the little sprats aren't even gonna remember it!" "They'll remember this one, Pop. Rated Number One by Birthdays Magazine!" replied Didi.
