Author's Note:-
For those who were wondering, 'Just where the fuck was he?', I am here to give them an apology, and to answer that. This is what I was working on. Trust me it may look like a simple concept but working with characters like these is really, really hard. Also, many of you may not like how this is written, but please bear with me on this one, it took me a month to write this after tonnes or re-writes.
This is a one-shot, so please don't expect any sequel chapters to come out.
Well then, let the magic begin~~~!

The minute Tsukauchi saw the sign on the paper was the minute he ordered an entire strip of aspirin from the nearest pharmacy. Out of all the places in Japan, the infamous Phantom Thief had to come to Musutafu to steal jewelry from Musutafu Museum. The jewel in question was a big ruby called the Princess' Trinket. Despite its name, which meant a small ornament, the jewel was a ruby which has the size of a fist. The gem in question has seen various places throughout its history, which also included it in a shipwreck and getting lost in the ocean. It was until last week, that the jewel was found by a marine explorer who was shooting for a documentary. The jewel was then on the news and was then revealed that it would be part of a limited-time exhibition before keeping it under a secure safe. And now KID sent a notice stating that he will steal it on the next full moon i.e. 4 days from now.
Tsukauchi sat on his chair as he kept the note in front of him, as he took the first pill of aspirin. That damn thief sent a copy of his advanced notice to a local news channel and now the entire city knows he is coming. The worst part, because of him, he has been getting calls from every possible media outlet, Inspector Nakamori from Tokyo Police Department, and many heroes in the city who wanted to apprehend him. He couldn't blame them, for media it was a page one news, for the Inspector it was his own case that he had to handle, and for the heroes, it was a matter of pride since the thief managed to slip through several heroes in the past and took jewels with him, not even Endeavor and Hawks were capable of catching the thief. On the bright side, due to so many heroes that wanted to be part of this case, the Hero Association made guidelines stating that there could be a limited number of heroes assigned to this case, and it was up to the police to consider who to take. At first, Tsukauchi wanted to ask All Might, but there were two problems he faced. First, he didn't want to jeopardize their friendship. Second, this wasn't his case, it was Inspector Nakamori's. He would have to talk to him later. Now he just stayed there, took another pill of aspirin, and went to work on this mess.
Hours later:-
Exiting from a taxi a man appears in front of the Musutafu Police HQ. This man wore a white shirt with a dark green tie, olive green blazer over it, he wore black office shoes, a khaki coloured pant with a black belt. He has black hair short on the sides, but dense and a bit unmade on the top, and has a toothbrush mustache. This man is Inspector Ginzo Nakamori the man-in-charge of the KID's case. He enters the building and takes turns and makes his way through the building. He stops in front of the door and knocks on it.
"Come in", a voice says from the inside. Inspector opens the door and steps into the room where he meets Naomasa sitting at his desk. Naomasa turns his head and sees him. He greets, "Inspector Nakamori, nice to meet you"
"Same here, as well Detective Naomasa", Nakamori replies. He takes a seat in front of the detective and asks, "can I see the note?"
Naomasa says, "Sure", and hands over the note to the Inspector.
The inspector sees the note intensely for a while, almost five minutes and then he finally says, "Yeah, it is him"
Naomasa releases a huge sigh and says, "Just what we needed"
While Inspector Nakamori may have a track record of failure in capturing KID, there was no denying fact that he was one of the few who could differentiate between a forged note or a real note. There have been countless cases where people forged KID's note to gain popularity, in those cases KID either came and proved that it wasn't his note by releasing the proof of the scam, or he doesn't appear at all. Inspector Nakamori's quirk, 'Analysis', has been capable enough to identify between a forged note or a real note, in fact, he was the one who found out the differences between KID's note and a forged note, in the first place. There was a certain way that KID wrote his note. A way that would have been identified by some machines capable of studying the note intensely or someone with a quirk and understanding of the note like Inspector Nakamori.
Naomasa opens a drawer of his desk and takes a pad out from it. It contained a form. He passes the form to the inspector and says, "Here's the form. I believe you know what's this for, right?"
Nakamori takes it and says, "Yeah, a form to get any pro hero available to partake in this case for the moment", he stands up and walks towards the door. He opens the door and leaves, but before that, he says, "I will give you the list of the required heroes till evening", and then he leaves the office and closes his door shut. Naomasa sighs again. He just hopes that they may catch this thief this time.
Same time somewhere else:-
In a run-down apartment there lived a man. The man has white hair and a beard, blue eyes, a blue coat with a white shirt underneath, and blue pants. This man is Danjuro Tobita, aka Gentle Criminal. He is currently on his room's balcony enjoying his tea as the TV in the room kept going on.
"As in our other news, we just received another note from the infamous thief Kaito KID. KID has sent a note to the Musutafu Museum for his next heist. The item in question is Princess' Trinket which was believed to be lost in a shipwreck long ago. Until a few days ago a mari-"
The TV was shut down by a short woman. Despite the height of a small girl, she was technically an adult. She has raspberry-colored hair tied in two ponytails, pink-purple eyes, wearing a jester getup with a purple top and white bottom. She is Manami Aiba, aka La Brava, Gentle Criminal's partner in crime and most often the one who usually shot Gentle's crime and uploaded it. She jumped off the bed and went to the kitchen. Gentle asks, "Manami, why did you turn the TV off?"
La Brava replies, "It's KID again", as she gets angry, "he and you do the same thing, but somehow he is the one who is even more famous than you"
Gentle gives a small laugh, this confuses La Brava. She was about to say something as Gentle explained, "Kaito KID is not someone who does the same thing as me", he stands up and takes a sip from his cup. La Brava looked at him with confusion as Gentle looked at the city in front of him. He says, "Start preparing La Brava, the night of this heist is going to be something special"
Days Later, the night of the heist:-
It was nighttime. It was finally the time of the heist. The streets near the museum were illuminated, a giant digital clock was placed at the front of the museum, helicopters flew in the air, and a huge mob was also assembled as if a festival was about to begin. Musutafa Police, Inspector Nakamori, and several heroes, whether it be underground or lime-light, were present inside the building, ready to catch KID any given moment he appeared. But even though they were prepared for KID, the 'problem' that always occurred was as always troubling them.
"KIIIIIIIIIIIDDDD!~~~~~", the mob cheered at the place where the heist was gonna perform, and seeing the crowd that assembled, the heroes assembled were either annoyed or had a hard time comprehending how could a thief get such a cult following. It always bought an extra load of trouble on their plate as they were restricted to going all-out at KID. Heroes like Backdraft were there to keep a perimeter and civilians away from possible harm and were already quite struggling. At least the people inside the museum didn't have any civilians to worry about.
Speaking of the museum, the Musutafu Museum was quite big in general. Like many museums, this one had many sections and different things to showcase. Just imagine this one to be as big as that museum from 'Night at the Museum'.
The digital clock 'ticked' as time went by, and it was close to striking 12. While the police and heroes were always on guard the mob's reaction was putting them even more on the edge.
The crowd looking at the clock then suddenly counted down, "10! 9! 8! 7! 6!", the heroes tensed up even more than before, Inspector stayed inside the museum as sweat from tension dropped on the ground. Heroes like Backdraft were having even more trouble keeping the civilians out. The chant continued, "5! 4! 3! 2!", the crowd never got to finish it as the power for the entire area just got cut, leaving a huge blackout in the vicinity. The heroes, police, and the crowd were confused at what just happened.
Fortunately, their answer was given a few minutes later as suddenly two spotlights lit up and started pointing at the empty space above the crowd. From the inside, Inspector Nakamori screamed from the top of his lungs, "HE'S TAKEN THE JEWEL!"
Then from the intersection of the light smoke emerged out of thin air and a man walked out, wearing a shining white suit, with white pants, shoes, gloves, top-hat similar to those of magicians, a blue shirt, red tie, and a monocle. Seeing the man the crowd went ballistic, breaking the perimeter and making the heroes snapping out of their stupor. The police and some heroes began charging at him, with everyone screaming, "KIIIIIIIIIID!"
An hour earlier, inside the museum:-
The museum was just like your every other standard-looking museum. Tonight though, it was filled with several heroes and police personnel inside. The manager of the museum led a group consisting of Inspector Nakamori, Nezu, and several pros like Eraserhead.
"As you can see Inspector, we placed the best quality of security system here", the manager explained, "once, active even if a leaf falls it will trigger an alarm"
"The jewelry?", Inspector asked
"Is safe in this locker", the manager said as he took them and showed them a transparent safe with the jewel in question inside it sitting on a soft cushion, the safe itself seemed to be airtight and had some sort of digital pad near it, "the locker is touch-sensitive. Even a weight as light as a feather can turn on the alarms and the security system, locking everything in this room without even space for air ventilation", he then points the air-vents around the room. He gets closer to the safe and then places his hand on the digital pad. The top of the locker opens up with a fold and it opens up completely. He continues, "the locker has a biometric lock on it. If KID decides to cut the power the locker would have to be broken by brute strength"
Nezu thinks deeply as he rubs his chin with his hands, he stares at the 'trinket' and looks up, and then says, "Is the stone in question genuine?", it is a known fact that KID often stole earlier than the given time, and despite the jewel looking like what a giant ruby should look like, he certainly didn't want to take chances.
The manager replies, "'Princess' Trinket', inside is a decoy. The real gem is hidden inside the facility, in some oth-"
"You know that KID will figure out if the jewel is fake or real right?", Nakamori interjects, "Many times we tried that plan only for KID to find out the decoy and steal the real gem before the given time"
Nezu agrees with the inspector and says, "He is right. KID is quite clever, even more than you can think", a grin appears on his face. Out of all the criminals that came, there were only two that put Nezu's intelligence to the test. All For One and Kaito KID, and he certainly enjoys his brainstorming session with the latter, due to its harmless nature of the crime, "after all, he is smart enough to elude even the likes of me"
The manager gets uncomfortable at their remarks, despite not knowing just how intelligent Nezu was, he still had one valid reason to do so. He looks at Nezu and says, "KID won't be able to figure out the difference between the fake or the real one. We made it with the help of an individual who has a material duplication Quirk", he then looks at the police and with a smug expression continues, "don't worry the duplicated material contains traces of DNA in it and just looks the same, and doesn't have the same properties. So, if KID even steals it, it won't worth much to him"
Nezu and the inspector take his words into deep consideration. This seemed like a perfect decoy but it was KID they are talking about. Anything can happen. Eraserhead in his usual tired voice spoke up, "Even if it is a decoy, it would be irrational of you to not let the police know where the real jewel is"
Inspector says, "Yes, the police must be notified of this. Please show us the location of the real jewel"
The manager dug his hands in his pocket looking for something. He took his hands out and showed the jewel in question. Nakamori was furious said, "You IDIOT!", causing everyone around him, except Nezu, to flinch, "YOU JUST MADE THE JEWEL A SITTING DUCK FOR KID!", he then calmed down a bit and continues, "And you are jeopardizing the jewel itself by casually carrying it around"
Nezu speaks, "I think the manager got the last part covered inspector", surprising the inspector, "While I wouldn't recommend the carrying of jewel around like that, at least he was smart enough to coat it with substances to keep it safe from scratches"
The manager then wipes his face, relieving himself from the sweat he didn't even know he was producing. Eraserhead says, "Well, now we will have to re-locate this jewel since there is a high chance KID might be here already and saw the jewel"
The manager sighs, he didn't want to show the jewel because of this reason entirely. He says, "I don't have any other safe prepared to place the jewel. Someone will have to carry it", he then hands the jewel to the inspector and says, "I believe you have someone capable of handling this"
Nakamori looks at the jewel carefully and then looks at Nezu. They all make their way to a secure location where no one could see them, to silently give the responsibility. After acknowledging Nezu to be more intelligent, and having a better idea of who to give, the inspector then passes the jewel to Nezu. He looks at Aizawa, his trusted junior from UA, and says, "Take this Eraserhead, I believe that you are the most capable one around here to handle it"
Eraserhead, with a silent nod and no visible expression, takes the jewel and stuffs it in his pockets.
Inspector Nakamori looks at his watch and says, "We still have half an hour before he arrives. Everyone! Get into your positions!", and with that, every hero went to their location for the patrol. Nezu, Inspector, and the manager went to the security room to see everything through the cameras inside.
They waited, waited, and waited.
More than 20 mins later:-
Patience is a virtue and following that they kept their eyes on the screen, trying to find any possible irregularity and take instant action. Nezu's phone vibrated. He takes it out and sees it to be an unknown caller. The mouse/bear/chimera, with an IQ Quirk, thought about not answering the call, but his instincts he gained while being a hero took over and as such pressed the receiving button. He places the phone over his ear and says, "Hello"
On the other side of the line a familiar tired voice spoke, "Nezu, it's me Eraserhead", Nezu's ears perked up at that as his eyes started looking at the monitors to look for Eraserhead. He continued, "I was knocked unconscious before I could join you", Nezu understood what just happened, "KID is using me as a disguise"
KID just played him.
With a smirk, Nezu silently cuts the call and says, "KID disguised himself as Eraserhead"
It was all the inspector needed to go on high alert, and filled with adrenaline. He quickly presses the speaker's mic button, faster than anyone can process. Alas, before he could say anything.
The electricity goes out.
Now, outside the museum:-
"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!"
The crowd went nuts as KID appears in front of them and without even seeing, they stampede over heroes to get closer to the Phantom Theif. With still being somewhat in the air KID's body doesn't move an inch as his cape still waves by the wind and with his hands in his pockets, he says, "For tonight's show, I promised to steal the Princess' Trinket-", but before he could continue, Air Jet, a pro-hero, comes with his jetpack and makes his way towards the thief. The hero touched KID, but soon KID literally burst into flames and disappears, leaving the hero dumbfounded.
The police and heroes look around themselves to find out KID through any possible location. Inspector Nakamori commands, "Everyone look out for KID he may have already disguised himself as a civilian and making his way out!"
Nezu calls out, "That won't be necessary inspector", causing the inspector to stop, "KID has disguised himself as an officer", the police looks among themselves, "that KID was nothing but a dummy made of flash paper, I assume", and with doubt filling in their eyes, Nezu, with his genius intellect, finally spots the one he was looking for. He takes his paw out and points at one of the officers and says, "there he is"
The police don't question, how or why, Nezu being genius was the only thing they needed as an assurance, and leapt straight at the officer. The pile soon finds that it's empty. Looking among themselves they soon notice a shadow cast down on them, and looking above them they see KID standing at the top of the museum with the jewel in his hands and looking at the full moon through it. KID looks down on them and smirks, "My, my principle sir, you sure gave me quite the trouble"
Nezu responded with a smirk in return, "It's not every day that the great Phantom Thief meets his match"
KID laughs at the remark and says, "Sorry, to disappoint you sir, but there's already a great detective that matches me"
Nezu raises his eyebrows at this, he thinks Who is he talking about?
"Aahhhhh-", KID says in disappointment as he gently tosses the jewel, from the rooftop to Nezu who catches it, "sorry to disturb you Chaos Bear, this isn't the one I am looking for"
The police knew that it was KID's usual routine to return the gem but they still had to catch him, but it was KID. He always had a plan, they had to be careful.
Nezu asks, "How did you know the jewel in the open was fake?"
KID casually replies as if there is nothing to fear about, "No, one in their right minds would casually carry a jewel that was submerged in deep-sea for so long, no matter how many coatings it has"
Inspector realizes this and says, "What!? The 'real' one was actually a fake!?"
Nezu keeping his eyes at KID says, "It was a trick by the manager to fool everyone in case KID was one of us, I am surprised you haven't caught on to that"
"But how could he take the jewel out of that safe?"
"The actual decoy had the managers fingerprints, a rookie mistake on our part", Nezu admits, "and as for the electricity to keep the locker active, KID just disconnected the museum's electric supply partially before taking the jewel"
"Ah~~~", KID groaned, "you detectives always act like those critiques who spoils the magic. It makes things boring"
Nezu, with finally forming an idea in his head speaks, "I am sorry, but there will be a lot to do once you are in the prison"
KID gets his guard up, but something happens which catches everyone, whether it be heroes, police, or civilians, off-guard.
Meanwhile, at a building away from the scene:-
Gentle stands atop a building away from the museum watching as the helicopters were flying around and as KID was handling his own against the heroes. He takes his phone out and calls his partner, "Is everything ready?"
La Brava on the other hand replies, "Yes, Gentle. The extra cameras are ready and the secret exit is also ready", then he hears squeaking with excitement, "I can't wait for this to happen"
Gentle smirks and replies, "The feeling is mutual La Brava", Gentle planned everything for tonight. He placed cameras to record his achievement, but had to be replaced thanks to KID, he also prepared a secret exit with the help of a guy with a teleportation Quirk in case things went south. With everything prepared and seeing his chance to enter, Gentle just says one line before going, "It's showtime", and uses his Quirk to turn the ground below him elastic and jumps.
Gentle jumped through the air, going towards KID. This was going to be his greatest achievement yet, it was his time to shine, it was time to cement the 'Legend of Gentle Criminal' itself and immortalize his tale. With another leap from an air turned elastic, with him being close enough to the scene to get noticed, with his voice filled with ecstasy he shouts, "LADIES AND GENTLE-", only to be interrupted by-
"Your life of crime ends today KID!", hearing this, KID turns his head at the source of the voice with a mixture of shock and fear in his eyes as he recognizes the voice. Meanwhile, Gentle, who was flowing with confidence a second ago, also knowing well enough who the owner is, in a panic quickly turned the air in front of him elastic and change his direction to get away from the owner of the voice, unsuccessfully.
"You wanna know why? Because I AM HERE!", All Might says, appearing out of nowhere. The crowd gets even wilder than before stomping over through Backdraft, even more aggressively, without even shooting a glance at him. Unfortunately for some of the bystanders, Gentle's unsuccessful way to escape mid-way his execution of plans led to him crashing over them causing huge screams. All Might takes a notice of this and looks at Gentle.
The second he looks there, KID throws a small ball aiming at All Might's face. He tries to swat the ball away, but before his hands could even touch it-
**KABOOOOM/PING!**
Next day, Musutafu Police HQ:-
Nakamori slams his hands on the table, he shouts in pure anger, "WHO ALLOWED ALL MIGHT TO INTERFERE AT LAST NIGHT'S HEIST!?"
Toshinori, who was sitting in front of the inspector on behalf of, his alter-ego All Might, shivered in fear as he said, "Sir, the heroes on the scene looked like they needed help so he..."
Nakamori screamed even louder than before, "THAT DOESN'T ALLOW HIM TO INTERFERE IN A POLICE OPERATION WHERE HE WASN'T INVITED IN THE FIRST PLACE! WE TOTALLY HAD THAT HANDLED! ALSO, WHERE IS THAT IDIOT!?"
Toshinori wanted to say that it's him, but he couldn't, he just replies, "He couldn't come here due to personal reasons"
Nakamori looked like he was about to blow up, "WELL TELL HIM THAT BECAUSE OF HIM WE LOST OUR CHANCE TO GET KID!", despite the inspector may never admit, it to protect his own and the police's ego, KID often showed up to the crowd to give a performance during his heist. The longer he feels secure the more he will toy with them, while it would seem like a bad choice but it also meant that they may get more time to capture him. To make sure he continues inspector always used underground heroes and lesser-known limelight heroes. All Might's intervention on KID's heist that night only led KID to get away earlier than expected. And what's more, the most embarrassing part of his entire escape was that he just threw a flashbang straight at All Might's face, blinding him and giving KID enough time to escape by blending with the crowd. It also didn't help they couldn't get the other guy who, intentionally or not, became the distraction KID needed. He then declared, "FROM NOW ON TELL ALL MIGHT TO NEVER INTERFERE IN ANY CASE RELATED TO KID! Got it!?"
Toshinori, in shame, said, "Yes sir"
Naomasa, who just sat there in his own uncomfortable position listening to the entire ordeal, stood up and said, "Should I get you a coffee?"
Toshinori and Nakamori at the same time said, "Yes"
There was an awkward silence between the three, which stayed for quite a while.
Author's Note:-
So, before you people start coming with me at pitchforks, I know that KID doesn't have any screen time in this, and may not have his usual charisma and behaviors in it, but I couldn't help in that department either. It didn't make any sense as to how could I write it in his POV in the first place. As for Gentle Criminal, please don't rage over me for him, I tried my best with this fic as I can. The twist, there wasn't any help either, most of the people I asked couldn't help me because they weren't experts or with experience, in mystery, or in this case heist-based fic, either, so sorry if the content was bland.
But for the anti-climactic end. I am NOT gonna apologize for that.
