Cookies

.

Today was the day, she thought as she looked at herself in the mirror. Today was the day she would finally confess and brave those feelings she had been keeping inside for years. The feelings she had for her friend since highschool. It would be a perfect day and she was absolutely ready to finally talk to Jellal and maybe even kissing.

For that a plan has been traced, with a little help from her friends. Specifically with help from Juvia, who had suggested the idea Erza had finally chosen. It was simple enough but simple things are usually the best answer or so had she heard. The first step was already done, as she had already invited him to her home in the afternoon with a perfect excuse: help her to bake cookies. Thankfully he didn't ask why would she need him when she was perfectly able to do them by herself, because she hadn't an answer at the moment. Nor now to be honest.

Anyway, the point is he accepted and was coming today in just a few minutes. Erza made sure to brush her hair until it shone, falling down her back like a fire curtain. Everything would be perfect and she was absolutely ready to handle this. Until his doorbell rang.

She ran down the stairs, two steps at once and took a second to breath before opening the door with a smile. And well, now she was absolutely not ready and didn't know why she thought it was a good idea. Jellal smiled at her when she opened the door, and took off his headphones. They stood there for a few minutes just looking at each other before Jellal finally asked.

– Should we go inside?

Erza blushed immediately and nodded before moving to let him pass, closing the door once he joined her inside. She hurried to the kitchen discreetly fanning her face with her hand before gathering the first items they would need.

– Do you need some help? – He asked from behind her back .

– Uhm, yeah, uh, yes, can you help me mix this? - she stumbled upon her words but managed to handle him the butter and sugar, as well as a bowl.

– So – he nodded and started his work – What are we going to do?

Erza brain disconnected for a second before she guessed he was probably talking about the cookies and not something else.

– Chocolate cookies. I think they would be easy enough to make

– Hm - without further add he turned his back and mixed the ingredients.

Meanwhile Erza tried to calm her heart and focus on the task. The task being actually making cookies because apparently she wouldn't be able to do anything else. Well, at least it wouldn't be a waste of time anyway, they could spend the afternoon together which was never a bad option and also there would be sweets. Amazing. Not her plan but still a good plan, right?

Fortunately, the process didn't take much time or effort and she already had it memorized. Also, Jellal seemed comfortable just mixing whatever she handled him and humming in a low voice so that made it easier. Erza recited the recipe step by step as they followed them and it made Jellal chuckle.

– You really know about cookies, do you?

– Oh, yes! You never know when you may need to make emergency cookies. One must be prepared for the most dire circumstances?

– With cookies?

– Of course! Easy, fast and tasty, the best emergency food.

– I see. What other cookies do you make?

He was smiling when he asked and she couldn't but return it with one her one before launching into a detailed explanation of every cookie recipe she knew. Time passed fast and soon the dough was already done, enough to make maybe one hundred or something medium cookies.

The oven had been preheated for a while so she put the first batch inside and programmed an alarm on her phone. Meanwhile, Jellal had turned on the speakers and put some music of his own in low volume. He still had a soft smile on his face when he turned to look at Erza but soon it got a mischievous turn.

– What's up? – She asked, still in a good mood but a bit confused.

– You have something…

– Where!? – She tried to rub her face with her hand but he stopped her before she could.

– Careful, your hands are going to make it worst. – Something twinkled on his eyes for a moment and it was then when she noticed how close they had suddenly gotten – Let me do it.

And just with that, he kissed her nose and she assumed he took out some dough or flour. Not like that was her first worry because, what? Did he really kissed her?! Why? Excuse her? Well, she could probably guess why he did it but… but why now Jellal? Why just in the middle of cookie making?

An uncertain amount of time later, he left her nose. She wasn't able to say anything, still trying to process what had just happened and it made him nervous, enough to make him take one step back.

– Sorry, was that-

She interrupted him putting her hand over his mouth. Her hand, which still had some dough. Dough that was now on his mouth. Their eyes met in silence and Jellal raised one of his brows and what was that? Why did it look like a challenge? Oh, well. Whatever. It wasn't like things weren't awkward already.

Erza leaned on and kissed him, making sure to take care of the dough but not stopping there. And well, he didn't complain, putting his hand on her waist and dragging her closer. They took a moment to breath before kissing again, and again, and again, until the alarm rang warning the baking time was over.

– The cookies! – she screamed, turning around to check the oven.

– Don't worry – Jella said from behind – I'm not going anywhere.

And yeah, he wasn't going anywhere if she has a word on it.
