A MYSTERIOUS PROLOGUE

Hello readers,

This is my very first 'The Owl House' fanfiction. It will follow the basic story line of the actual program but it will be noticeably different. Now, for all of you Lumity shippers, this won't contain that, which is a blow for me too as I am an avid Lumity shipper. Unlike the actual show, the younger characters are a few years older, so Amity and Willow are sixteen, Gus is thirteen and Luz id fifteen.

This story will hopefully be a bit darker than the show with some adult content down the line. Please, if you don't agree with yuri then please do not read.

Please enjoy my work and please leave a review, I'd love to know what you think... See you at the end.

The house was dark. She would be home soon.

A figure moved like a ghost through the darkness of the large living room. The walls were asleep, thank the Titan, the intruder was pushing her luck even being inside the infamous Owl House. But Boiling Rain was on the way so she was running out of time. The owl daemon protecting this house was easy to knock out with a simple sleeping spell. The figure allowed herself a small chuckle that she quickly stifled. The Owl Lady would be back soon to protect the House against the acidic rain. She had only stepped out to retrieve more baby formula from the market. A high pitch voice from the upper floor caught her attention and she fell back against the kitchen island and into shadow.

The voice was singing some sort of daemon lullaby and the figure let out a sigh of relief. A pale hand clutched to her chest felt her heart thumping maniacally against her ribs.

She took a moment to still her breath and calm her raging anxiety at hearing the Owl Lady's little pet daemon's voice. She was sure she would have taken him with her. But then, the figure considered, could babies look after themselves at such a young age. She had not had children herself and did not surround herself with such young children. She could barely tolerate the children from the various Academy's across the Boiling Isles that clamored around her when in public.

Taking a deep breath to settle her nerves again and looking across the room to the back end of the strange daemon owl in the door, the figure made her way to the bottom of the stairs. She began carefully, hoping against all hope that the rickety wooden stairs didn't creak, groan or squeak under foot. The figure sucked air through her teeth and froze as a loud creak echoed throughout the ground level of the house. Eyes wide with the fear of being caught and handed over to the Owl Lady she waited for any signs that the inhabitants upstairs had heard the intruder lurking halfway up the stairs, but all she could hear was the daemon loudly congratulating himself on his amazing singing.

The figure clicked her tongue quietly and rolled her eyes to the ceiling. Ugh, the place was disgusting. The little daemon pet had moved on to bragging about his ruling prowess and an adorable little giggle fluttered down from one of the many rooms on the second floor. For a split second the figure wavered. Did she really want to do this?

Of course she didn't.

Why on the isles would she want to kill her own niece?

It was despicable.

It was disgusting.

It was orders.

However, Lilith Clawthorne may not be a very nice person anymore but she was not a monster. There was no way she could outright kill her niece, it would be the first and only time she had decided to go against the Emperor's back. The curse paper in her inner pocket seemed to burn against her side. Of course this was just her guilty imagination but it was better than being a murderer. Lilith sighed resolutely and resigned herself to ascend onto the narrow landing. There were dozens of doors laid out ahead of her, she blinked, trying to comprehend how her sister had built such a place. It was like a maze, a dimensional maze. It truly was a marvel. The doors seemed to lead to rooms using different dimensions to accommodate not only their contents but also their size. Her sister had really out-done herself and it burned her inside.

This was just her sister being better at her. Again. Now, as her priorities shifted, she was glad that her sister had been seen fraternizing with a human. The Emperor now knew that her sister had somehow obtained a way to the Human Realm and he wanted it desperately. She was unsure why. The Emperor was an enigma, shrouded in mystery and shadow. His ravens mask had petrified her the first time she had seen him up close. New recruits were taken in front of the Emperor and personally branded by him. It was a private ceremony that only the inner circle of the Emperor's Coven attended. There, the new recruit recited the Coven's rules and laws and swore their allegiance to the Emperor. Now, however, she only saw the raven mask as a symbol of hope. He wanted to unite the witches, bring them all together in magical peace, to dispel all forms of wrong and bad wild magic. Lilith's eyes travelled down the walls picking out photographs that her sister had hung up pride of place. They mostly just consisted of Edalyn and her little pet daemons. The photograph closest to the stairs, evidently the most recent was a little witch girl in the bath tub, like she was now, her dark raven black hair covered in a hat of pink bubbles. Her little stubby toes poked out of the water and her hands steadied a yellow griffin toy on her head.

The baby had adorable light pink skin and oddly… Lilith paused in the scrutiny of her niece to take a step forward squinting at the canvas. She was sure her eyes had deceived her in the half light of the corridor but as she stepped closer a gasp of shock forced its way from her throat. She had to cover her mouth with her hands to stop it from turning into a noise of complete surprise. The girl had stark, glittering sapphire eyes.

Those large, adorable eyes looked so familiar to Lilith but she couldn't put a finger on where she had seen them before. There was no way Edalyn could have done that with the human female she had been seen with. It was physically impossible for a witch and a human to produce a child, their physiologies were just too different.

Lilith could feel repulsion writhing in her stomach like angry snake-sharks squirming against one another, making her feel sick. She could feel the bile rising from her stomach as she ogled the image. Never before had a female witch mated with a human. Witches and humans couldn't do that, and yet, here was proof. Undeniable, ridiculously cute, proof.

'Oh-kay~' sang the high pitched voice of the daemon pet, 'time to get out. I still can't believe Eda lumbered me with you, but, I guess you don't complain about lullabies or my singing, huh?'

There was a lot of splashing and slipping of limbs on metal. Lilith had to move. The daemon pet would be coming out with the abomination-child any minute! Lilith's eyes drifted away from the bathroom to the room across the hall. Hesitantly, Lilith crept closer to peek around the door-frame, mindful that the little daemon could look up and see her at any point. Lilith's stomach dropped and her jaw followed suit, eyes widening to the point of pain.

It was a nursery!

The walls had been painted a delicate lilac color, the dark wooden floor had, for the most part, been covered in a very large purple-y silver very fluffy rug. Against the only window was a rocking cot and above it hovered small light orbs of varying sizes but the biggest was no bigger than Lilith's fist. A mobile with three hanging toys; an owl, a little wolf daemon thing with a horned skull and a little Edalyn hung in mid-air, rotating ever so slowly. The curtains were made of a thin silvery material had been tied open. There was a large chest at the foot of the cot that was already overflowing with toys, most looked donated or stolen and some she didn't recognize at all. Her insides were burning again, this time with a rage so insatiable that the only way Lilith could think to let it out was to burn the Owl House to the ground- starting with the abomination-child's room.

She lifted a hand, drawing a blue-white circle in mid-air, her anger engulfed her mind and she glared with a white hot resentment. Lilith could feel the familiar itch of her magic as the magic circle granted access to the flames of her festering hatred for this place, her sister and this child.

A sudden noise from the bathroom behind her had Lilith shrinking back into the shadows of the landing. With a cold dread that washed over her like a waterfall, Lilith's senses came crashing around her. What was she thinking? A hand on her chest told her that her shock had not ended her, but if she deviated from the mission Kikimora had giving her, then it would have been her set on fire. She could hear the little daemon pet talking to himself and the child and then the chinking of claws on wood. The light in the bathroom was turned off and the little daemon pet waddled awkwardly onto the landing. He had clumsily swaddled the baby in a soft lilac bath towel that engulfed the poor child. The only thing Lilith could see from the shadows was a pair of bright blue eyes and a tiny, most adorable, button nose.

The daemon pet stopped on the landing to shake his wet leg before continuing to struggle into the nursery. This is it, thought Lilith her heart leaping with excitement and repulsion for what she was about to do. Careful that her heels did not make a sound on the scrubbed wooden floor, Lilith prowled after the daemon and the little abomination. She watched with a mild curiosity as the little daemon hopped up onto the chest, only swaying momentarily, before jumping bodily into the crib to place the child into the abundance of blankets with surprising care. He let out a trill of a giggle and tapped the little child on her nose. Lilith could feel a small sense of self-loathing writhing in her stomach as she stepped silently into the nursery. Her shadow fell ominously over the little daemon and abomination-child. The daemon did not realize straight away as he continued to tuck in her niece, but as a cold chill ran through the room he spun and gasped loudly. His yellowy-purple eyes constricting in apparent fear.

Lilith brought her fist down, staff in hand and knocked out the little daemon instantly and with surprising ease. Lilith blinked in surprise at how ease it was to sneak up on the daemon that claimed to be King of all daemons, and frankly, she had never heard of such a being. He fell with a soft thump amongst the blankets as a loud crash of thunder rocked the house. Shock blazed through her veins, she had to hurry if she wanted to stay ahead of the acid rain. The baby jolted in her swaddle and began to cry, loud gut-wrenching screams. Lilith, for a brief moment, found herself wondering if it had been the thunder that had startled her or the fact that her caretaker had been knocked unconscious.

Lilith gave her head a little shake, she could hear the rain slowly patter on the ground outside and knew she was running out of time. She knew Edalyn would be watching the sky as well, determined to get home before the rain melted her house and family away. If it was going to be done, it had to be now. She rummaged in her pockets and pulled out the key she had swiped from the coffee table downstairs. It was a simple brass key with a large blinking yellow eye. It stared up at her almost scathingly, she glared at it and drew out a scroll with her other hand from the same pocket. It's cursive scripture was written in a dark purple ink and was glowing with in a similar dark portentous color. Even holding such a scroll set her stomach feeling heavy, as though she had eaten a lot of granite. Memories of the mistake she had made in her childhood flashed in her mind, she shoved it aside with a stiff shake of her head. Her dark eyes flitted across the scroll, taking in the complicated spell as quickly as she could. It was very similar to the last curse she had completed.

Very similar.

It cut a bit close to the quick. As she got to the end of the curse she drew a circle in the air, pushing her magic into her finger willing her magic into the curse. Her light blue magic circle began to crackle with purple sparks and the little baby began to glow. Just like Eda had. Lilith shook the thought angrily from her mind, conscious that the spell around the baby wavered. The baby's wailing stopped suddenly, sputtering into a confused silence as she watched the magic circle hovering above her with large golden eyes. The glow got brighter and brighter until Lilith had to cover her eyes. The curse exploded in a brilliant flash of light.

Outside, Eda stopped dead. She drew back the hood of her cloak as she surveyed her House through narrowed eyes. Something wasn't quite right. A brilliant clap of thunder lit up the dark sky and she saw it. Hooty had slumped from his little nest in her door, his long noodle-like body had curled on itself on the ground. It made Eda think briefly of a pile of noodles. Her eyes widened and she rushed over to kneel beside her owl-daemon.

'Hooty!' She said in a hushed frantic tone, giving the owl a little shake, 'Hooty, wake up!'

She picked his head up but it just flopped back down to the ground. Eda frowned and stood up pushing the door slowly open. It clicked put opened easily. It felt as though a large stone had dropped into her stomach as she cautiously stepped into her living room. Her long ears twitched, determined to hear even the tiniest noise. She could hear the faintest pitter-patter of the acid rain creeping up on her House. She had to find out what was going on soon.

A painful chill suddenly froze her blood cold and she jolted at the most horrible ear-splitting screeching she had ever heard.

'Aislyn?' Eda called, panic squeezed at her heart and clawed at her throat, 'Ash?'

Eda's footsteps were loud as she scrambled for the stairs, her magic staff, Owlbert, clutched tightly in her hands. Aislyn was screaming and screaming as Eda threw herself through her House. She just hoped that maybe King had upset her somehow but deep down she knew that something was dreadfully, dreadfully wrong. Her thumping heart tried to escape through her throat as she clambered up the stairs, her cloak swishing behind her. Her boots skidded across the wooden floor as she turned into the nursery and she stopped dead, bewildered by what she saw.

Her portal door was standing open. A dark cloaked figure was holding Aislyn out at arms-length, as though she was a monster. The figure, swathed in a cloak blacker than black with the hood pulled so far over its head that Eda couldn't see who or what it was, looked up at Eda. It seemingly froze at Eda's sudden appearance. It seemingly shook itself and threw the screaming baby through the door. Aislyn's bawling immediately cut off to leave the nursery in a crushing silence.

Eda's stomach sunk, every hammering beat of her heart was making her feel sick. Eda could feel her body begin to shake and shiver without even knowing she was doing it. Before Eda could comprehend what had just happened, the figure slammed the door shut and disappeared leaving the portal key to clatter loudly on the floor.

Eda sunk to her knees and screamed until her throat bled.

Holy Titan, that was rough!

Don't worry, it'll get better for Eda. Hopefully. Probably. Maybe.

Anyways, please rate and review, the first chapter will be up soon.
