Act 1: Alliance
August 15
Today, I write this entry knowing that what had transpired was quite... dumbfounding to say the least.
It all started normally with me waking up to another hum drum of day serving tea to my master. As always, I had a small silent harangue about how I truly thought the world should be taken care of. Gowasu always said that it was necessary to leave the mortals to make their own choices. That a kai should look but not see.
I can't look away from the embezzlement.
I can't look away from the deception.
I can't look away from the massacres...
This beautiful world was being tarnished yet no one is allowed to see that.
The ire that pervaded me was nearly taken out on the delicate teapot I was transferring to the tray. Now was no time to be frivolous. I had to play ignorant a bit longer. Just take it as a normal day.
But that was the only normal part of the day.
After getting the tea ready, I made my way to the courtyard, expecting him to sit calmly either taking the fresh air or incessantly look up nonsensical videos on Godtube. I got out of the temple but with how bright the sky was it was so strenuous to see what was before me. I pulled the doors shut and turned around, just to stiffen to the sight before me…
There he was, lying lifeless on the ground. It barely looked like a struggle. Blood seeped from is back and blemished his tunic and the stone ground. Through the rupture on his clothes, I could tell he was stabbed dead. And his slayer stood grandly above him.
He was just a few inches taller than me. He was cloaked in a black shirt and trousers which were overlaid by a dull grey tunic bound by a crimson sash around his waist. A blade of energy emanated from his right hand, accentuating his dark motif. His fair yet dull skin made his onyx eyes all the more conspicuous under the jet black bangs of hair that otherwise stuck out in all directions.
He was a mortal. A saiyan. Delightful...
I was prepared to hone a blade of my own when the stranger called me by name. I halted once more hoping the old man wasn't daft enough to tell him everything about me. However, the man insisted he knew me long before his precipitous arrival. I never believed him until he started telling me of my childhood, my life as a North kai, the first time I saw mortals for who they truly were…
It was my first day, I travelled around my quadrant. Planets of different colours were scattered throughout the stellar void. I came across a planet of sapphire skies filled with people sauntering in peace. Harmonious children were playing about with sticks for swords. I almost chuckled at the sight. I never expected what transpired from there…
Suddenly, a group of brutes marauded the village. The people immediately groveled at their feet. I couldn't do anything. I couldn't tell them to run as the swines raised their blades in the air. Men, women, children… nobody was guaranteed to live when they randomly beheaded the rustics. And what was it for? To make a statement. To prove they were superior as the ground was stained in blood.
I took off to another planet. Civil wars. Another had people going extinct due to a drought they caused by cutting all the trees down. There was one planet that was blighted with cannibals. The list was endless.
And it still is…
I really couldn't comprehend how he knew this but he expected that what he would have said next was enough to shock me.
We were one in the same.
I thought of every single possible theory that could refute that statement. I knew I wouldn't be so low as to envy a mortal's body, much less a saiyan. They were savages who deserved to be wiped out according to what I heard of them. How did I make such a decision to give up my own body for power? Also, how were there two of us existing at the same time?
Unless he wasn't from our time…
I never noticed until then that there was a time ring adorned on his right index finger. He was from the past and he couldn't get here without the emerald Potara earrings on his ears. With that evidence, he could have become a supreme kai in his timeline then enacted on his plan afterwards. Well, I believed so until I saw the dead body on the ground…
He told me about how he became the man he was. He killed the Gowasu from his timeline then made a wish using the Super Dragonballs to switch bodies with Son Goku. After that, he killed everyone from his timeline, including the real Goku. He began killing all the mortals from other timelines using the ring In the name of purifying the omniverse. However, he knew he couldn't finish them all off on his own. That's where I came in.
He said I could be of assistance given we had the same views. The same opinions. The same mind… I was free. I could do what I had been compelled to do for so many millennia. I stared as he held up one of his earrings to me as a symbol of agreement.
At first, I thought I was about time those mortals realized just what they had done to this precious realm. It was time for the world to be made beautiful again. It was a dream coming into action.
But by the end of the day, this is an agreement I'm making with a god in a mortal body.
I never knew how I could throw all my principles away so easily. I wished I never saw what had happened to myself in that timeline. But he still seemed to be like me at heart. Somehow, I could still see a glint of myself in him. I feared that it was only a glint however. Who knows, he could have lost himself to those saiyan instincts.
But it was now or never. I couldn't let another chance like this pass up. I took the Potara earring and clipped it to my left ear.
There were so many things to do
There were so many places to go.
So many sceneries to see.
So many tasks to accomplish.
So many people to see us.
So many people to be punished.
So many people to be reckoned with.
So many people to purge…
Yet, so few to trust…
"I am glad you chose to do the right thing," said the doppelganger. "It is splendid to know that I won't be alone."
"Well if it means conducting the Zero Mortals Plan, I'll be happy to join," said Zamasu.
The simulacrum raised an eyebrow. "Huh, I never knew you were so prepared to give this project a name."
"I've been stuck here for so long and had so much time wasted to my duties," Zamasu explained. "Speaking of names, do you still go by your old one?"
"With how I've been accustomed to this new face, most people have been calling me Goku Black."
"And you like that name?"
Goku Black chuckled. "Well, I never considered correcting them. After all, what did I expect?"
"Figures. I be off to pack my things," Zamasu turned back to the temple.
"Can I just ask you one thing?" Black put on a grim face. "Is this partnership justified?"
Zamasu halted for a moment, almost unsure of what he was getting himself into. Then again, he was already too enmeshed to back out.
"It is…" he finally said.
"Then it's settled. Grab all you need. I know a place we could stay in. Also, we still have the Super Dragonballs. I plan on destroying them before they fall into the wrong hands but there is still one wish that can be made. I'll let you wish for anything you fancy." Black explained.
"What about you?" asked Zamasu, slightly confused.
"I already made a wish. This one's on you. There are no limitations. You can have anything. More power, even immortality."
Zamasu couldn't help but feel piqued at that statement. Was he implying he was weak?
"Why can we just wish for the mortals to be wiped out?"
"Zamasu, you and I both know that's too easy. Don't you like it when you accomplish something with your own hands?"
"I suppose you're right. Well, why didn't you wish for immortality?"
Black adjusted his sleeves. "I already feel invincible in this body."
"But you can still die of natural cause."
"I don't think that will happen," Black said as he eyed his partner's earring.
It was then that the Kai realized that he got himself into a dangerous situation. Was Black planning to fuse with him once he gets immortality? Was this to make a fusion of god and mortal? Was it to blackmail him? For all he knew, Black just had to shift his earring to the other ear and they would be fused. Forever
"Counterpart, we only have each other to rely on. It's us against the world. I'm asking you one last time," Black spread his arms. "Can I trust you?"
Zamasu looked down. It was time to act on what he saw.
He walked up to the saiyan and gave him a hug of agreement.
"Of course, brother…"
"Then let's begin," said Black as he pulled back. "We'll shall shape this world of man back to its former glory. I'll be waiting for you here."
The North Kai nodded as he walked back to the temple doors. When he closed them once more his calm face wrinkled into a grimace. It's too late. He got what he wanted, but at what cost?
As Zamasu took to his room, he made a mental note to keep a close eye on him.
There were so many things to mistrust him for.
So many ways he could be subjugated.
So many mistakes he could make…
Thanks for reading. I've been having this story on my mind for quite a while now. I guess I can call it a 'what if' fanfic. I just wondered if it was logical for Zamasu to join Black that easily going by what he saw. It would be more believable for him to be skeptical before Black talked to him.
I wish this story could develop from where it is a I want to see how deep their bond could go from this perspective. In case anybody is wondering, this of course based on their anime versions.
If you want, you can review and tell me what you think. I'll try to focus on this work as I move on. I'm trying to involve characters more by using fewer characters but we'll still see others like future Trunks and future Mai. I will upload the cover I made for this story but I have to fix some things first.
Well, I guess that's it until next time. See ya!
