A/N: so after a while of thinking and trying to come up with a plot for a short multichapter, this plot idea would not leave me. This isn't going to be those 30 chapter fics but bear with me for a while. So this would be another one of those mondler hook up fics, even though they don't like actually hookup or any way you'll see. Also not all events match the timeline. Slowburn (we'll see how that goes, i'm pretty sure it won't be)

Reviews are always appreciated :)

Monica swirled the pen around her fingers, deep in thought, her fingertips lightly grazing the edge of her notebook as the sound of people coming in and out of Central Perk filled in as her background noise.

Getting a new job seemed harder than she thought, of course anything remotely close to what she loved doing would be the next best choice for her but she really didn't want to do the next best thing, which would be working at that diner. Sighing lightly, she sipped on her coffee, before Rachel's familiar face brought a gentle smile onto her face. "Hey"

"No luck yet" Rachel asked and Monica shook her head, trying to seem as optimistic as possible. "Honey, you'll find something soon. I know you will"

"As much as I hate to say this, Chandler's right" Monica sighed, but Rachel was confused. "When I was training him to lose weight, long story. He joked about how it must be hard for me to act all happy when I don't have a job or a boyfriend or-

"He said that?" Rachel sounded outraged, and Monica quickly told her he was messing around and it was another way for him to sneak out of going on a run.

"Maybe, You could I don't know find yourself a boyfriend?" Rachel asked, a coy smile playing on her lips before Monica laughed and shook her head. "Oh come on, I know you'll find a job like that Moondance place you told me about. But maybe a boyfriend is a great idea right now"

"Rachel, i hate that Moondance place I mean-

"Honey, Isn't it the next best thing?" Rachel asked and Monica nodded. "And don't you really want a job right now?" She pressed further before Monica groaned and gave in while Rachel cheered before Gunther ordered her to go back to work.

"Hey Mon" Ross kissed her cheek, and walked in. "You'll never believe what happened-so I was at work and-

"Let me guess, one of those statues to honor those dead things fell off -and you had to clean it up yourself?" Chandler asked, walking in distressed.

"How did you know!" Ross exclaimed, grinning. " Well I'm going to pick up Ben, I'll meet you tonight"

"Bye" Monica sent a questioning look towards Chandler. "So what's up?"

"I need you to go on a date with me" He blurted out. " Did I just say that out loud?"

Monica raised her eyebrows in amusement, "Funny, I don't have time for your jokes"

"No no, It's not a joke" He paused and looked at her for assurance to keep going. " So I was arguing with Janice and she well- cut forward. I might have told her that you're my girlfriend" He smiled sheepishly.

Monica laughed and patted his shoulder, "Oh how you can always make me feel better with your dumb jokes"

"Mon, I'm not joking" He sat her down. "We just need to go on one date-and that's it"

"Chandler!" Monica slapped his shoulder. "How-why what?"

"How-You were the first person that came to mind, I guess that answers the why part too and what was I thinking well-"

" What were you thinking" She cut him off and paced around. "And you just had to impress Janice, didn't you"

" Well, girls like you are harder to impress so I decided Janice was easier" He tried grinned.

"Thanks" She deadpanned and plopped back on the couch.

"Mon, Please" He begged. " We just have to go together, we don't even have to talk to each other"

"Yes, and that'll make everyone believe we're dating for sure" Monica smiled, but still had a tint of suppressed anger.

"I'm sorry" He stood up. "I'll go tell her I was joking around, I'm sorry for trying to get you into my web of lies to impress…. Janice"

"Chandler-

"No no, Seriously" He smiled lightly. " I have a meeting, meet you later"

As the door shut behind him, Monica couldn't help but feel a little guilty. She had gone on a date with Joey once, but with Chandler it felt different and they had to actually flaunt their so called relationship for Chandler's sake. 'this was going to end horribly' she tried convincing herself and pushing the small voice at the back of her head telling her 'it might not be so bad'
