Lily Jade Potter looked down at her beautiful baby boy, Harold, or Harry for short. He had been named after her late father, Harold. Her father had died in a train accident a couple of months before Harry had been born. Her mother died of a broken heart a couple of months ago, right before they went into hiding. She missed them so much. Harry had his father's hair and her eyes, as Sirius called them killing curse green. She didn't know how this innocent child that was sleeping peacefully in his crib was "destined" to be the downfall of The Dark Lord, Voldemort.
She prayed to God that Voldemort didn't find them. She was tired of hiding from him, she wanted to live her normal life. She wanted to take her kids out in the open and show them this beautiful world, Magical, and Muggle. She wanted to go camping in the woods, show them the wonders of cinema, hell she even wanted to try and make amends with her sister. Yes, her sister was a magic hating muggle but with her parents being gone she needed to make up with Petunia and that oafish husband of hers. Lily felt a tug at her dress drawing her out of her musing. She looked down at her daughter, Acacia.
"Mummy?" Acacia questioned looking up at Lily. Lily smiled. "Yes, Casey darling?" "Can we go outside?" Lily picked up her four-year-old. She shook her head. "I'm sorry baby, it's too cold and windy outside." It was due to snow later, this would be foul weather for the little trick-or-treaters in the village tonight. That was another thing she was missing because they were hiding from Voldemort. "Please Mummy?" Casey asked of her mother, trying her best to give her puppy dog eyes. Lily smiled at her baby as she looked into her onyx-colored eyes, she had her father's eyes, but she had her fiery red hair. She knew how to win her child over and to make her forget about going outside. "How about we go to the den and ask Aster if she could bring us some milk and cookies? I'm sure Daddy would like that!" Lily smiled as she got a very enthusiastic nod from her daughter.
"I'll be right down baby, I'm going to cover Harry up first." Casey nodded and ran down the stairs. Lily tucked in her napping baby and put his stuffed dog, Padfoot next to him. Harry let out a content sigh. Lily smiled when she heard Casey telling James that they were going to have Milk and Cookies. She walked down the stairs and when she turned the corner, she saw the love of her life looking at her. James was sitting on the sofa with Acacia in his lap, who of course was happily munching on her favorite chocolate chip cookies. "How is Harry, My Love?" Lily smiled at James as she approached the sofa. She sat down next to him and grabbed a cookie. "He's fine, he's napping right now." James nodded his head as he reached for a cookie.
A little later on Lily sat at the desk watching James play with Casey. She was finishing up writing an important letter. She smiled as James made Merlin, Casey's stuffed cat dance. She was blessed to have ended up with a kind man like James, even though he had been a toerag for 6 years of their schooling. In their 7th year he had become more mature, she thought maybe him becoming Head Boy had something to do with it, but she wasn't sure. She couldn't believe that it had been four years since they had gotten married. This was a great way to spend their 4th anniversary, hiding from Voldemort. It wasn't that she minded being with her kids, she just wanted to spend some time alone with James. Having two young kids made alone time hard.
Lily noticed that it was starting to get dark outside, she realized that she needed to go get Harry up from his nap. It was getting close to dinner time. She could smell that Aster had dinner going. It smelled like Aster was making Beef Wellington for their anniversary. She loved that elf. She took great care of them and the children. Lily was on the third step when the door blew in, and she saw the form of Lord Voldemort! Oh My God! He had found them! It meant that Peter had betrayed them. She didn't know if it had been tortured out of him or if he was a follower. She heard James yell at her to take Harry and run.
She ran up the stairs praying that he got their baby girl off safely, as well as himself. Merlin, Acacia's stuffed cat had an emergency portkey that sent her off to Minerva, who was her godmother. She reached Harry's room and slammed the door. "Colloportus!" Lily shouted using her wand to lock the door. She knew it wouldn't keep him out long but it would keep him out long enough. She was about to leave the Godric's Hallow house, she was going to Potter Manor. There she and her child would be safe. She would send for Acacia as soon as she could. Lily was reaching for a fussing Harry, but she was stopped by Voldemort blowing the door of the hinges. He stepped into the room and looked at Lily and Harry. Lily was at the end of his pointed wand.
"Move, it is not you, I want, I want the boy! I will spare your life, unlike that of your husband!" As Lily looked into his red eyes, she felt her heartbreak. James was dead, she knew that she had no other choice than to sacrifice herself for her children. Lily started to make it like she was moving aside to give him Harry. Voldemort thought that Lily finally saw that it wasn't worth her life to protect her son. He pointed his wand at the toddler. "Avada Kedavera!" and at that moment Lily stepped in the way and sacrificed herself. "Stupid Woman!" He thought," Oh Well." He pointed his wand again and this time when he uttered the curse, Voldemort failed to realize that Lily's sacrifice saved Harry, and also made him a Horcrux. The spell bounced back on The Dark Lord and obliterated his body, leaving no more than a specter. Voldemort knew that he only had seconds before Dumbledore showed up. He knew that the old coot had this place warded to the teeth with monitoring and protective charms. He had just broken through them. Voldemort wouldn't have fled, he normally was willing to stay and battle Albus head-on, but since he was a specter he left. He wasn't willing to risk Albus knowing his secret.
As Voldemort fled unknown to him, Severus Snape made his way into the broken doorway on the once beautiful cottage. His heart raced as he stepped into the dark cottage. He was already fearing the worst. "Lumos!" Severus whispered lighting up the room. There before him was James Potter, his glasses broken and the look of horror on his face. Seeing him on the floor made Severus' heartache. He hated the toerag but it didn't necessarily mean he wanted him dead. He could hear the crying of a child up the stairs. He ran up the stairs and his blood ran cold as he reached the landing. He saw the door of Harry's Nursery blasted off its hinges. He made his way into the room and he saw Harry in his crib crying, blood running down his forehead from a lightning bolt wound. He then took in the sight of his beloved Lily lying on the floor, his heart shattered. Severus kneeled to the floor and gathered her in his arms and the tears started to flow. Severus very rarely ever showed emotion but this was a time where he couldn't. The only witness to this display of emotion was a toddler. He held on to Lily for a few minutes wishing that he could make The Dark Lord pay for breaking his promise. Severus could hear Sirius Black coming in the door downstairs, followed by a shout of anguish. He felt for the mutt, Lily and James had pretty much been the only family he had left. Severus picked up Harry and started down the stairs. Sirius looked up at the footsteps. He howled in rage and sorrow. He saw Harry in the arms of Snape, he didn't have it in his heart to start anything with him. His heart was broken and the look on Snape's face made it worse. He saw the tear tracks on the Potions Master's face, and only one person could cause that. He knew that Lily was gone too.
Sirius' face turned to panic as he noticed only Harry. Where was Acacia? "Where's Acacia?!" He said, worry and sorrow evident in his voice. Before Severus had a chance to answer him someone else did. "Acacia is safe, she's at the school with Minerva." It was Albus. He took in the scene and his heart was broken. His fears were confirmed. The Potters were dead, their children were all that was left. Harry started squirming in Severus' arms, he was reaching for Sirius. "Pa'foo!" he cried out. Sirius took his Godson in his arms and tried to comfort him.
Sirius looked at Albus and asked, " What now?" He was still in shock. He had just lost his best friends. Albus took Harry from Sirius. " We think about and do what is best for Acacia and Harry now. You are all they have left in this world." Albus replied. He looked at Harry's wound. He was still surprised that the toddler was alive. He heard the popping of the Aurors arriving. "Go. Both of you before more Aurors arrive." It would do no good for Harry to lose Sirius too because it was believed he was the secret keeper for the Potters. It also would do Albus no good to lose his Potions Master this early in the school year. Both men nodded and left.
