Chapter 1 Prologue
Alexandra Cabot, Olivia Benson, and Beth Anne Mason all grew up together in an expensive neighborhood in Scarsdale. They were friends before they could walk. Their parents knew each other well and belonged to the same social groups, so they almost didn't have a choice.
Alex's parents were never together. Her dad was a pitcher for the Yankees, but he wasn't with her mom. He didn't want to be in Alex's life. He saw her on birthdays and Christmas but not much other than that. He basically paid her mother money to stay away from him. He felt like Alex's mom trapped him years ago. She wasn't around Alex much either. Alex had money, but not a lot of love. A Nanny was always there to take care of her instead of her mother.
Liv only had her mom as well. She was a professor at Columbia University. Her mother had money from a settlement of her parents life insurance. She made sure Liv had what she needed, but she never really acted like she loved her. Liv didn't know her father. He attacked and raped her mother late one night on campus while she was walking to her car at night. Her mother fought back and killed him. Liv's mother was beaten so badly, it was a shock she lived, along with Liv as well. When she found out she was pregnant she decided to have her, because she was embarrassed that people knew. She didn't want people to know she had an abortion.
Beth had both parents in her life at one time. Her mother was a pediatrician and her father was an orthodontist. Originally her family was in Atlanta, Georgia. Her mother was tragically killed in a car accident when she was 4 months old. Her father moved back home to New York, where family could help raise her. She grew up with her grandparents and father raising her. Her grandparents were so loving, but unfortunately they didn't live very long either.
The girls started off in preschool, then elementary school. They were always in the same classes until middle school. Even though middle and high school sent them in a few different directions, they remained close. They were best friends and nothing could tear them apart.
When they were in high school, they spent every weekend at Alex's house, because they had the most freedom there. Beth was the wildest one of the bunch. She would always talk Liv and Alex into going to college parties at Columbia. They would often pose as trying to be helpful to Liv's mom, Dr. Benson. It became a routine thing on Fridays and Saturdays. They even started going to other colleges to party.
Liv even seriously dated one of her mom's students. Alex was always jealous of their relationships. She dated guys but that's not really what she wanted or who she wanted. She was afraid to tell her best friends the truth.
Liv cried the day that her relationship with the older boy crumbled. He took her virginity and was sleeping around with several other girls. She cried on Alex's lap for hours. That was the moment that Alex decided to face her fears. She told Liv that she was too good for him anyway. Then placed a soft kiss on her lips. Alex confessed her love to Liv and they were together from that point on. They talked a lot about when the feelings started and of course Liv needed more time, but she loved Alex so much.
Beth was getting drunk, high, and sleeping with every college boy in sight. They told Beth after a couple of months, because they could no longer hide it. She wasn't surprised at all, she was happy for them as long as they were happy. She had her own news. She was dating a law school student and she was in love. His name was Jim Rollins and things were serious.
When the girls finished high school, they decided to continue sticking together through college. They did everything together, so college was always a part of the plan. Alex and Beth wanted to be lawyers while Liv wanted to join the NYPD, but she still needed and wanted a degree to join the academy. They attended Columbia University.
They decided to live together in an apartment, because their homes were 40 minutes outside the city. They went with a nice one, since their parents' money made everything an option. They got a 3 bedroom with a 2.5 bath. They really didn't need 3 bedrooms, since Liv and Alex slept together and Beth was often with Jim. It did however give everyone space just in case.
Their college years flew by. Alex and Liv worked very hard. After four years of studying Alex immediately started law school. Liv joined the police academy. They both graduated with honors and number one in their programs. Their relationship grew stronger and so did their bond. They got married right after graduating from Columbia University.
The four years didn't come without heartbreak, they both lost their mothers along the way and Beth lost her father. Even though they weren't great moms and Beth's dad had a hard time as a single parent, it was still hard to lose them. Their parents did leave them everything and financially in a great place. It was almost like they didn't have to work, but they were driven individuals.
Beth had a harder road and a completely different path. She dropped out in the middle of her sophomore year when she found out she was pregnant. At the time it didn't matter, her and Jim were in love and they were both over the moon. They got married in January when she was 2 months pregnant. Jim finished law school, being way ahead of Beth in her studies. He was bright, smart, and charming. Those characteristics pushed him faster down a lucky path. He was known as one of the best and youngest Defense Attorneys in the state of New York.
