Run. Run. Run.
Her legs ached and her sides hurt but she had to keep running. Mama told her to run so run she would. Away from the sticky red stuff that coated her arms and feet. Away from the barking of her dog and the screams of her mother(both of which were now silent). Away from the scary tall man that hurt Mama, that wanted to hurt her.
But even she knew that a six year old with short stubby legs and no stamina couldn't possibly outrun the hounds following her. But she could try. After all Mama had told her to run.
A low growl was all the warning she got before she was harshly shoved to the ground. Sharp teeth dug into flesh and muscle and her vision black out for a second. "Dear me, Ree-ree-chan are you all right?" an all too familiar voice called
She looked up blue meeting brown and she snarled. "You bastard, they trusted you" she half hissed through the near blinding pain.
"You kiss your mother with that mouth? Ah well I suppose you won't be doing that any more."
"But yes a terrible mistake on their part."
"I 'll kill you, even if I die doing it, I swear to god I'll kill you Ab-"
I gasped as I shot up.
One of my hands were clutching my black hoodie.
Breathe
In.
Out.
In.
Out.
I can feel the rough sole of the boat beneath my fingers and the coldness of the cabin and the dampness of my shirt and the pain of the bruise on arm and the rocking of the boat. I can smell vomit and wood and ocean and mildew. I can see a blanket and a book and my bag. I can hear the groans of the other passengers and the waves crashing against the side of the boat.
I can taste blood.
