Abattoir Redemption

Chapter 1

"Mr. Voledski, please save our daughter. She seems to be possessed. That thing isn't our daughter!" The little runt's mom and pop stood in front of me, outside the door to their daughter's room begging like spineless worms. I had been paid to travel to their little abode in Hanweir to exorcise the spirit or demon inhabiting their daughter's body. I hope that priest from Thraben is right. "Just lemme se'er. This shouldn't take long."

Without another word, I thrust open the bedroom door and froze for a moment. The girl was writhing and seizing in her bed. "I see you've restrained her. Makes this a little easier." I moved a bit closer to the bed. "Yes. Those restraints are a family heirloom. We've been told they hold some small magical power." I appreciated them being upfront about my payment. I'm an assassin and mercenary for hire, but that doesn't mean I won't do anything else if the price is right. I usually take something from the target or employer that will grant me more power as part of the payment for the job.

It was time. I moved to the side of the bed and placed my hand on the little girl's forehead. "Avacyn's blinding truth compels you! Avacyn's blinding truth compels you! " I continued this chant for about 20 minutes before there was a blinding flash of light as the demon rushed out of the girl's "blessed body". I didn't exactly buy into the old tales about Avacyn, an archangel that was unable to protect the land she loved and went insane. Now, she's regained her sanity and is working to rebuild her kingdom, but I've never seen her.

The little girl was now lying there motionless, in a sound sleep. I turned to her parents before speaking again, "Well, the job is done. I hope you have my payment." Both mom and dad clasped their hands and shared a concerned expression as the father spoke, "Well…You see, we don't have any money on hand. We just wanted to save our daughter…" He swallowed hard, "…No matter what happened to us. So…Just do what you're gonna do! Our daughter is safe, and that's all that matters!" I thought about things for a moment before speaking again, "You're good parents, but you're right. I'm not getting my pay, so I gotta take some collateral."

I pulled out my Butcher's Cleaver as I continued, "Don't worry. You'll still be able to see your little girl. It might be hard to hold her close though." I chopped off both of their hands before thrusting the large first aid kit in front of them and stealing the Choking Restraints, the family heirloom, that had been keeping the possessed child at bay. I turned and rushed out the door with a final, "Farewell."
