The BAU team were currently in New Orleans helping on a murder case. In the aftermath of the storm, they'd lost pretty much every piece of evidence pertaining to the case, which made their jobs a little harder than it usually was. William Lamontagne Sr had worked his ass off trying to find out who the killer was, only to die himself in the storm. 15 months went by, the case was assumed to have gone cold, until another man wound up dead, his throat cut like the previous victims. This is when Will Lamontagne Jr called the BAU in to help.
Detective Lamontagne took an instant liking to JJ, and it was totally obvious to everyone else on the team. JJ felt for him, having lost his father and then having to take the lead on his last case probably didn't do wonders for the young man's mental state, so she was polite and tried to help as much as she could. She found herself in one of the local bars, going over specifics of the case with Lamontagne.
"You always drink while you're still on the clock?" JJ raised an eyebrow as the barmaid placed a beer in front of the young man.
"This is New Orleans honey, it's a cultural thing." He shrugged, turning his head to look at the media liaison. "Where are you from?"
"Pennsylvania."
"I take it the folks are a little rigid about the rules up that way." He asked, and she just nodded in response. "Well, if it makes you feel any better..." he moved the glass away from himself, "We'll play it Pennsylvania style tonight." he played with his hands, unsure what to do next.
"I hate that this guy has a leg up on us, you know?" he breathed out, seemingly pissed that they hadn't made any progress since the BAU had arrived from Quantico.
"I promise, as soon as my team knows anything, we'll hear. Okay?" JJ tried to reassure the man without giving him too much hope. JJ was a pro at dealing with grieving families, this was just another hurdle to get over.
"Why aren't you married?"
"Uh, that involves the case how?" JJ shook her head in confusion.
"It doesn't. I'm just flirtin'." He offered her a smile.
"It's unprofessional." she scoffed at him.
Throughout the day they had managed to gather more information and assumed that the unsub was most likely a woman. Hotch had dismissed them to their rooms as it was far too late to work anymore, and quite frankly they were all exhausted. Much to everyone's annoyance, they were all paired up in rooms this trip. It'd happened a few times, but all JJ wanted was to be left alone that evening, have a cool shower and just relax and forget about everything.
"Sorry we're roomed together again." Emily offered a sympathetic smile, knowing how irritable the blonde had become through the day.
"It's not your fault Prentiss. Do you mind if I ta-" JJ walked into the room and paused, dropping her bag on the floor.
"One bed, seriously..." Emily muttered quietly.
"As if this trip couldn't get any worse." JJ groaned. "Sorry, this is fine, I'd rather it was you and not Morgan or Reid."
"It's okay. You take the shower first; I'm going to order us some food and maybe a beer or two. I think we both need it tonight." Emily smiled again, moving to the side of the room to organise herself.
"Thanks Emily." JJ quickly rooted around in her bag, grabbing her toiletry bag and her pyjamas and disappeared into the bathroom.
She let out a deep breath as she stood in front of the big mirror in the bathroom, moving to turn the shower on and get undressed. She let the lukewarm water run over her body, she felt gross, and this was making it all better. She wondered if Lamontagne could have been a little more subtle about his attraction towards her, not just straight out asking why she wasn't married. She thought it was rude and a little insensitive, if she was completely honest. She shook the thoughts out of her head, finishing her shower quickly, drying herself off and getting into her shorts and vest before joining Emily back in the room.
Emily disappeared into the bathroom next, leaving JJ to choose something on T.V for them to watch when their food arrived. By the time the brunette came back, there was a knock on the door. Two burgers and enough fries to feed a small family was spread out on their bed, both women having chosen their sides of the bed and tucked into their meals.
"God, this is good." Emily groaned as she bit into her burger, JJ laughed lightly when her sauce dropped onto her chin.
"Em, you've got a little-" JJ signalled to her face, Emily going a little red with embarrassment as she quickly grabbed a napkin and cleaned up the spill.
"So, what's got you so riled up today Jayje?" Emily asked innocently, the two women weren't the closest, Emily only having recently joined the team.
"Uh, Detective Lamontagne." JJ rolled her eyes as she ate a handful of fries.
"Oh yeah, I noticed that. He's kinda cute though." Emily shrugged it off.
"He could've been a little more subtle about it. We're literally working a case his dead daddy left him, and he's trying to get laid whilst doing it. I just think it's a bit insensitive." JJ shared.
"No, I totally understand that. There's a time and a place." Emily nodded in agreement, feeling bad for the blonde for having to deal with it.
"And he is so not cute. His accent drives me mad; I can barely understand a word he's saying." JJ scoffed, which made Emily burst out laughing.
"He's not my type" Emily smiled before she continued, "and the accent is really thick, I know 6 language and even I struggled with that." JJ laughed at this as she finished off the last of her burger.
"So, Prentiss, how are you finding the BAU?" JJ asked, changing the subject from the young detective.
"I'm loving it, it's been different and god there's so much grief, but it's nice to be one of the good guys." Emily divulged.
"I'm glad you're settling in; I think we could be good friends Emily. We'll have to invite you to girl's night when we next have a weekend off." JJ grinned at the brunette, seeing her eyes light up.
"Definitely, and by we I'm assuming you and Garcia." Emily tilted her head quizzically.
"Yes, me and Pen love a girl's night. We just end up getting drunk and talk about sex for most of it, but it's good fun." JJ chuckled at the memories flooding back to her.
"I've never really had any close girlfriends, so that'd be nice." Emily blushed a little at the mention of sex talk, she was a private person, so she didn't know if she'd offer any information for those conversations.
"You're going to love it, Emily." JJ winked, smiling brightly at the brunette.
