Takes place 6 months after Korra was poisoned. :)
Chapter 1
The sun was starting to rise over Air Temple Island, glistening on the water surrounding the island, making for a peaceful morning taking place months after a tragic sacrifice was made. Korra was still recovering from the terror of being poisoned by Zaheer in order to save the new Air Nation
It was early in the morning, Korra had just gotten out of bed. She still couldn't rely on her legs to get her around, her upper half of her body however could work a little better, but as for her bending abilities, she'd have to wait a while.
The young avatar was six months into her slow but needed recovery, having to use crutches now to walk, trying to make using crutches with both of her injured legs work.
As Korra tried to make her way up the stairs, Mako by her side supporting her, Korra's arm around his shoulders and her left hand firmly holding onto the railing. Mako's right hand on her back and her other holding her crutches.
They both gradually made their way up the stairs silently until Korra softly spoke,
"Thanks for helping me Mako," her gentle voice put a warm smile on his face, "of course," he would do anything for his closest friend, especially after all she's been through.
He had spent most of his time with Korra since she was poisoned, and took pleasure watching how much she'd progressed considering she was told there was a chance she'd never walk again. But she was Korra, strong, determined … selfless
Korra had just come off her wheelchair a week ago, she was still getting used to walking on crutches.
They had finally reached the top of what seemed like an endless staircase. Mako handed her the crutches and he remained by her side as they walked down the hallway, heading to the dining room that was located in the main part of the Temple.
"I, really appreciate how you've been helping me, ever since..." as she trailed off, she stopped in her tracks, a frown on her face. "Hey, it's ok, you're going to get through this." She looked up to meet his golden eyes, revealing a small smile, but Mako could see right through it and see the sorrowful look clouding her eyes. Korra is the Avatar, it makes sense that she feels so down about all this, but she is strong and Mako has no doubt that she will get better.
Breaking the silence that had once engulfed the hallway, a bang coming from the ceiling rang through their ears, followed by several more until a hole was forced into the roof, people falling through and landing in front of the two teenagers. Korra was shocked, she turned towards Mako not knowing what to do, he had already sent multiple fire blasts their way. "Korra, get out of here, NOW!" he shouted while dodging a stream of fire.
Mako was not going to lose this fight. It was an all out fire bending battle, all five of the mysterious attackers were firebenders, wait, firebenders?! Suddenly he realised who these guys were. Mako turned his back towards them, risking getting blasted, and saw Korra had only moved a few metres away.
He directed his attention back to the firebenders, they were gaining ground and making their way closer to Mako. As Mako was backing up, he ran into something, he quickly turned. Seriously, where'd this guy come from? He readied his arm to burn this guy's face off, but to his surprise, the man securely grabbed Mako's arm and covered his own face with a black cloth, kicked Mako pushing him back and sprayed a gas from a metal tin right in Mako's face. As he inhaled, he felt his senses weaken and his vision start to blacken, he fell to the ground with a thud.
Korra looked behind her and her face filled with fear, "Mako!" She turned back around only to see the very people who ambushed them right in front of her, one holding out a metal tin to her face. The man pressed down on the button, gas emitting from the bottle, causing her to collapse.
Mako lied on the floor for about 30 minutes unnoticed until two White Lotus guards came and found him, and the damaged hallway. They looked around, examining that part of the hallway, scorch marks everywhere and a whole in the roof. Guilt built up in their chests, as they were not around to help or prevent the attack. They walked over to Mako and carried him to a medic room, placing him down on a bed and immediately notifying Tenzin and calling for some healers.
Well, first chapter! I hope you guys liked it and I PROMISE I will finish this story, I don't like cliff-hangers, so for mine and your sake, I'm finishing this story. There might be about 9 or 10 chapters, not sure yet. Sorry if my chapters are a bit short, they might gradually get longer, but yeah. Also, I cannot say exactly how often I will post chapters, because I might be busy, but I will try at least 1 or 2 chapters every week. :)
