A/N: Because I can and because I will and mostly because I am bored, I decided to write this little snippet of what it might be like if I wrote an actual longer work for an OC and Kakashi. It's late. I'm tired. I have this for you. It is short. Enjoy.

OOOOOOOOOOOO

Kakashi watched as Kurayami moved around the training field. Each of her movements were smooth, precise. She looked like the perfect killing machine and he had to remind himself that that was how she'd been raised.

And yet, she's one of the kindest people a person could know, Kakashi thought to himself, watching her grow closer to where he stood.

Kurayami glanced in his direction as she landed a jump and her brilliant green eyes flashed in the sunlight. She turned her face away and sat down on the grass, her back to him. Kakashi heard her draw in a deep breath and let it out of her nose.

"Ami," he said, moving closer to her.

Two senbon landed at his feet, startling him.

Kurayami hadn't moved as far as he was aware.

Decoy.

Kakashi turned around quickly and blocked Kurayami's kick. She was a flurry of movements that he could barely keep up with. He caught hold of her foot and managed to get her on the ground, though she struggled to get back to her feet.

"Let me up," she ordered.

"After you tell me why you're here, attacking me," Kakashi told her.

Kurayami rolled her eyes. "You call that attacking you? Pfft. Kakashi, you're going soft. That was me messing around. If I was attacking you, you'd know it. Because you'd be on the ground or in it." She squirmed. "Are you going to let me up now?"

The silver haired ninja moved off of her and she kicked him on the shin. "Hey!"

"That's for knocking me over and skipping breakfast with me," Kurayami said, flipping to her feet. "Honestly, you'd think that I had done something wrong by the way that you ran out when I was cooking."

"You haven't done anything wrong, Ami," Kakashi said, looking at her as she plucked the senbon out of the ground. "I was just summoned by the Hokage."

"Ah yes, Granny," Kurayami commented, looking bored. "The one who always uses me to sniff out trouble. How is she doing these days that I'm on suspension?"

Kakashi held his tongue. As nice as Kurayami could be, she was equally as harsh. She could go from nice to evil in a flash and lately Tsunade had been testing that balance. Neither one of them could get along with the other for very long and it all stemmed from the times that Tsunade had made Kurayami prove that she was no longer working for their enemies as a sleeper cell.

"No answer?" Kurayami asked, turning to look at Kakashi. "That must mean she's doing good. Perfect. Long live the Hokage." She pocketed her senbon and crossed her arms. "What about you, Kakashi? How are you?"

"As fine as ever," Kakashi said, feeling an edge of concern hit him. He looked at her face, trying to get a read on her. "Why do I get the feeling that not everything is good with you?"

Kurayami shrugged. "Sensei readings must be off because I'm feeling just peachy. Just absolutely peachy."

"Ami…"

"Kakashi. I'm fine." She smiled. "See? Fine."

Kakashi shook his head. "I have one eye covered and I can still see that's a forced smile. Something's up, Ami. Spill."

Kurayami put her thumb to her nose and wiggled her fingers at him. In some ways, she reminded him of a female version of Naruto. But he'd grown up with her and her antics until she disappeared on a mission that the Hokage at the time had sent her on. He was amused and disoriented at times by her because she could go from acting like a six year old to her real age of eighteen in a split second.

"Ami…"

"Sorry. I hear Gai calling," Kurayami said, looking past him. "I've got to go hang out with him. Maybe that villager you were so helpful with can keep you company? Hm?" She rolled her eyes and tried to walk past him.

Kakashi grabbed her arm and held her in place. So that's it.

"You're jealous."

"Me? Jealous? Of what? Of some villager that has weak ankles?" Kurayami asked, looking offended. "Really. What's there to be jealous of?"

"Ami…"

She tried to wrench her arm out of his grasp, but he held on firmly. The girl refused to meet his gaze, choosing instead to look out at the world.

She's holding back, Kakashi thought, watching her. Both as a ninja and as a young woman. I already know she likes me. We've established that before she went into the prison. There's just always something that she holds back whenever she's around me.

"Kurayami," Kakashi said, moving closer to her.

"I hear Grandmother calling," Kurayami whispered, standing perfectly still. "She's going to want to have lunch with me…Kakashi, you have to let me go."

Kakashi listened for a moment and heard nothing. There would have been no mistaking Kurayami's grandmother's voice calling for the girl. She'd been calling for her for years until she came home again. Kakashi shook his head.

"She's not calling, Ami. You need to tell me why you're jealous."

Kurayami pulled on her arm. "I'm not…I'm not jealous…"

She pulled too hard and ended up on her back in the grass. Kakashi knelt next to her and put a hand on her chest, sending chakra into her body. The girl shuddered and was forced to stay on the ground. He knew she could brush him aside easily, but today seemed to be one of her off days.

"Fuck," Kurayami whispered, staring up at the sky with a cross look on her face. "Fuckity fuck fuck."

"Language."

"Same as you speak, only dirtier, Kakashi dear." She made a face. "Forget the dear part."

Kakashi rolled his eyes and sighed. "You're not making this easy."

"Am I supposed to, Wandering Eyes?"

"My eyes weren't wandering, Ami. A villager needed help and I helped her. There's nothing to be jealous in that."

"She flirted with you."

"So?"

"You flirted back."

The Jonin blinked in surprise. "What do you mean I was flirting with her?"

Kurayami closed her eyes. "Idiot. Really oblivious, aren't you?" She sighed. "Kakashi, you can't help but flirt with women. And I should realize it's a character flaw of yours to be a flirt because when you actually like someone, you're as awkward as a Genin, but…it must be your cuteness that makes me forget that you're a flirt." The fingers of her left hand twitched. "Bad me. I'd smack myself if I could, but you know. Trapped under you with no place to go."

I'm a flirt? Kakaski wondered, taken aback. Since when? I always thought I was more of the aloof type. But a flirt? He thought hard. There have been a lot of ladies that went out of their way to make me feel appreciated over the years…but nothing ever came of it. Because I didn't want to look. I wanted to be blind to them because…

"Because of you," Kakashi whispered, brow furrowing. "I never saw I was flirting because of you, Ami."

"Of course, blame me. Blame the girl that's been fighting alongside you for lord knows how long." Kurayami took a deep breath and lifted her hand off the ground. "Blame me like the village does. I can take it."

Kakashi looked down at her. "We're connected, Ami. We've always had a connection. That's how I knew you were safe when you disappeared. And why I've never looked at another woman in the same way I look at you."

The girl opened her eyes and blinked against the sun. "What are you going on about?"

Lifting his hand, Kakashi held Kurayami sit up. She looked grumpy, then surprised when he reached out and brushed back a strand of her dark hair. Almost like she couldn't help it, she leaned into his touch and let out a soft sigh.

"Kakashi-sama."

"I made a promise to be there for you when you came out of prison," Kakashi told her, holding her gaze. "And I intend to keep that promise. Ami, you have to realize that I made that promise out of love. Something I haven't felt for anyone before."

The corner of her lips twitched. "And here I was thinking it was a one-sided thing. That what you said back at the prison was just to get me through that hell. Empty words and promises to get an old ninja through her nightmare."

"Ami…you know me. I mean what I say. Every word of it." He stroked her face. "And I meant it when I said I loved you."

The dark haired girl finally broke out into a real smile and placed her hand against his masked cheek. She rested her forehead against his and let out a little laugh. Kakashi smiled at her and kept her close. Their lips were almost touching when a loud cawing filled the air, causing Kurayami to jerk back.

"Ami, what's wrong?" Kakashi asked, watching her look around them nervously.

"Nothing." She smiled at him again and patted his cheek. "Come on, Kakashi. Let's – let's get back to the village and celebrate."

Kakashi nodded and helped her to her feet, not missing the second glance she gave their surroundings. She's always holding something back…

OOOOOOOOOOOO

A/N: Well, that happened. I will get around to a longer fiction of these two to explain parts of this in the future. But not now. Enjoy your night. -Scarlet
