Hi guys, it's chipsandfish2. While searching for stories to read, I made a horrifying discovery. There are literally only a few HTTYD x Rescue Riders fanfics where Hiccup and the gang meet Dak and Layla and the gang. So, I will take it upon myself to create as many fanfics with scenarios where characters from each side meet as possible. This is the first one. I hope you all enjoy it.

Chapter 1: What Happened?

(Grumblegard's Island)

Grumblegard was just minding his own business on his island, taking care of the baby dragons that were brought to him by the Rescue Riders.

"Alright kiddos," he said "I think that's enough lessons for today."

As the baby dragons all went back to the cave to rest, Grumblegard suddenly heard flapping behind him. He turned around, expecting the Rescue Riders, but instead saw a Rumblehorn charging straight for him. He got ready to blast it away when he suddenly realized that it was flying rather funny. Almost like it was injured.

The Rumblehorn suddenly crashed and skidded to a halt ten feet from the Foreverhorn. He noticed that the Rumblehorn had multiple arrows impaled in its scales.

The Tracker class dragon looked up and only said two words.

"H-H-Help… m-m-me." Then, it passed out.

Grumblegard was taken aback by the fallen dragon's condition. And despite being 275 years old, he didn't know what to do.

'Well, there's only one group who might know a thing or two.' he thought. "Stay here kiddos, I'll be back." he said to the babies.

And with that, he picked up the injured Rumblehorn and started making his way towards Huttsgalor.

The Rescue Rides and their dragons were in town about to head back to the Roost when Cutter suddenly spotted something with his supersight. Or rather, someone.

"Hey guys," he said. "Is that Grumblegard, carrying another dragon?"

The gang was surprised and looked up.

Grumblegard set the Rumblehorn down in the middle of the village, attracting a large crowd.

"Grumblegard, what are you doing here," Layla ased, before noticing the condition of the other dragon. "And what happened to this Rumblehorn?"

"I don't know," he said. "I was just getting the kiddos ready for bed when he came crashing down in this condition."

"Might I have a look?"

Everyone suddenly jumped as the famous explorer Marena made her classic Marena appearance.

She walked up to the Rumblehorn and without warning, pulled out one of the arrows. While this didn't wake him up, it did cause him to shift in discomfort.

After examining the contents of the arrow, she came to a conclusion. "This arrow has dragon root on it."

"What's dragon root?" asked Layla.

"It's a plant that causes dragons to become extremely aggressive. However, when highly concentrated, it can be used to render a dragon unconscious no matter where it hits. I've only heard rumors of them in the past but never actually saw it in action."

"If one dragon root arrow can knock out a large dragon," Layla wondered out loud, "Then how did this one get to Grumblegard's island with multiple?"

She then turned to Grumblegard. "Did you see any ships nearby?"

Grumblegard shook his head. "I didn't see any. And I made extra sure to check before coming here."

"Guess we'll have to wait for him to wake up if we want to know more," Dak said.

(A Few Hours Later)

Back at the Roost, the gang was just finishing up dinner. The Rumblehorn was now sleeping peacefully, all arrows having been removed.

Just as the Rescue Riders were about to turn in, they heard a grunt. They looked over and saw the Rumblehorn starting to wake up.

"Uhhh," he groaned, "Where am I?"

He sees Dak and Layla and snaps wide awake.

"Stay away!" he yelled. "Stay away or I'll blast you into next week!"

"Whoa whoa whoa," Layla said, "It's okay, we're not going to hurt you."

"Yeah, so please don't blast us into next week," Dak pleaded.

"Wait, you can understand me?" the dragon asked.

"Yeah, me and my sister were raised by a dragon as kids after we got shipwrecked."

The Rumblehorn looked around and saw the other dragons. "What are those things on their backs?" he asked.

"Those are saddles," Layla told him "We ride them. We're the rescue riders."

It was as good a time as any to begin introductions. "I'm Layla and this is my twin brother Dak. And that's Winger, Summer, Cutter, Agro, and Burple."

"I'm Bullhead," the Rumblehorn introduced himself. "Hey, is this the same island I landed on?"

"No," Layla said. "You landed on Grumblegard's island. He's a Foreverhorn and he brought you here to see if we would know anything."

"So, what happened to you?" asked Dak. "When you arrived, you were covered in what we heard was called dragon root arrows."

Suddenly, Bullhead's frowned and he started shivering out of fear. "Well," he started, "me and my brother, Rammel, and my sister, Gamma, were just flying over some ships when they started shooting at us. It was then we realized they were dragon hunter ships. I was able to get away, but my siblings weren't so lucky and got captured."

The Rescue Riders were shocked to hear this. Dragon hunters?! To think there were people who would do such a thing.

Suddenly, Dak piped up. "Don't worry Bullhead. We'll get your siblings back for you."

"But Dak," Layla intervened, "These are dragon hunters. If we're not careful, we could be next."

"Well we can't just sit here and do nothing," Dak argued back.

Seeing as he was right AND not wanting the Rumblehorns to suffer, the Rescue Riders and Bullhead set off to save his siblings.

After a few hours of flying, the group spots three ships in the distance. They were settled on the beach where there were multiple cages with dragons, two of which were Rumblehorns.

The Rescue Riders landed on a nearby sea stack. "Are those the dragon hunters Bullhead?" Layla asked.

"I could never forget those outfits or the symbol on their sails."

Winger looked at the other cages. "We should free the other dragons while we're at it." Everyone nodded in agreement.

The riders told Bullhead to stay on the sea stack. Telling him that since they were smaller, they would be less noticeable.

"All right gang," Dak said as he and Winger got ready to dive into action. "Let's move out."

And so, the rescue began.

And there's the first chapter.

I have many plans for how the Rescue Riders will interact with the Dragon Riders.

First off, the setting. This story will take place during RTTE aftering Season 2 episode 10 but before episode 11.

Also, Dragon Eye 2 will already be built because Hiccup knows that the hunters are after the original, so he should have a backup.

Next chapter, riders will meet riders.
