Tony Stark Billionaire Cleaner and Questionable life choices
Summary: Tony Stark was never meant to be a cleaner. That's okay. He wasn't meant to be Tony Stark, reborn into the body that will one day be Iron man. Tony decided to become a cleaner instead. Or, the one where Tony Stark smiles far too much, whistles when happy and travels around the world. While Iron man is more of a hobby and Tony looks for curry in Brazil. (one-shot)
Howard Stark could only stare at his son with shock after hearing those determine words. The boy fourteen and he excepted teenage rebellion. He just didn't expect this and judging by his wife shock face she didn't expect it either.
"What did you say son?"
"I'm going to become a cleaner."
Just like that he watches his son take the broom out of the maid hand and of he goes cleaning the floor, humming away. Howard does not know how to feel about this because he knows his boy is a genius. Only now, that genius mind is going to waste because somewhere along the line his son had lost a few screws and now wanted to be a cleaner. By the looks of that face, he isn't too sure if this was a phrase either because his son is downright determined to get that stain of the kitchen floor.
He's pretty sure his wife fainted soon after.
Rhodey pretty sure he is meant to be worried about Tony Stark, but after being near the man he's given up on being worried and just goes along with the flow. If he did keep being worried about his best friend his blood pressure would go through the roof and the doctor said no it shouldn't do that. So, here he is trying his best not to worry and just stare as Tony waves at him a smile on his face and a mop in his hand.
"I'm sorry, but what?" he asked.
"I'm going to be a cleaner," Tony said with great pride. Rhodey isn't sure if Tony was meant to say that with great pride.
"That's what I thought you said. Pretty funny, joke Tones."
Tony gives him a look almost to say no, he wasn't joking and any thought about trying not to worry is tossed out of the window because Tony Stark had never mentioned anything about wanting to be a cleaner. After all, who would want to? His father is Howard Stark and sure their relationship isn't the best, but clearly it wasn't that bad for Tony to just go no dad, cleaning is my calling. Apparently, it was and yes, Rhodey thinks this is teenage rebellion because Tony had been far too good for far too long.
His friend had never gotten into seriously trouble, didn't drink like his father did and had a good track record. So, maybe this was Tony way in finally rebellion a day they've all waited for. Since many teens go through it and even Rhodey did for a while, but Tony is being far too seriously for this to just be a phrase. Rhodey also didn't like that feeling in his gut that told him, no Tony isn't rebellion he wanted to do this. He actually wanted to be a cleaner. A billionaire son wanted to be a cleaner. So, Rhodey ask why.
"Why?"
Rhodey question is slow and his voice is shaking because he wasn't prepared for this. They don't teach you this sort of thing in training for the military. There's no guidebook that said, how to handle billionaire sons that want to be a cleaner 101.
"Because I used to be one."
"Since when Tony?"
"Past life."
Or, yeah sure past life as if that explained everything. It really didn't all he can do is watch as Tony takes his cleaning supplies and started cleaning MIT.
First time Phil encountered Tony Stark he didn't even know he was Tony Stark. The man just appeared as one of their cleaners one day and casually walked up to him.
"You should call yourself S.H.I.E.L.D. People won't get overwhelmed with your name then."
The man started to whistle going back to work washing the floor and as Phil leaves it takes him a second too long for it to drawn on him.
"Why is Tony Stark one of our cleaners?"
It's Thor that meets him next after he lost his powers the man was surprising helpful explaining to the God how things work and how they didn't all while that said man return to washing a window. It would be when Thor works alongside him later on in his life would he notice that Tony Stark likes to travel.
Bruce comes across him next. The man is in Brazil and the idea that this man was Tony Stark did not even dawn on him. All he knew is that the man seemed out of place staring up at the moon before he took notice of Bruce.
"Can I help you?" Bruce asked.
"No, not really big guy. Just looking for curry."
All Bruce could do is blink as Tony Stark strolled away whistling a tune and never finding out if he found the curry he was looking for.
Tony Stark knows he should do something about SI so, he did he found Pepper track her down and promote her to CEO. That was of course after he got rid of the whole weapon thing and focus on cleaner energy and technology.
There's the pros and the cons in being reborn into a superhero world. One thing for sure he knows what will happen. His mind is a little fuzzy on the details and when it will happen, but he knows it will happen so he keeps himself out of trouble as best as he can and becomes a cleaner. Cleaner a nice safe job with the only worry about being deadly chemicals and as long as he popped his head up to the surface to tell the world, yes Tony Stark is still alive. Yes, he is still a cleaner he goes back to what he does best and that is cleaning up other people messy.
He was a cleaner in a past life after all.
There was just one problem he forgot about the man Howard put in as his Godfather. He soon found a bomb with his name on it and no not in the desert, but in his own tower and Tony is close to dying. Until he breaks out of the hospital and build his own Arc Reactor that power up his heart.
Hey, he might've been a reborn soul who was nowhere near as smart as Tony Stark not even close, but in this lifetime, he has Tony Stark mind, so playing with technology is like playing with Lego. And, to make sure he didn't get poison by the very thing that saved his life he made himself a new element. That was after he went finding Fury and the spy was not easy to track, but he did so. Right after the lecture Rhodey gave him about breaking out of hospitals.
At least Stane didn't try and rip out his heart this time because Tony killed him before he did. Burrowing his body in a nice patch of sand on the other side of the world.
"Worse Godfather in the world," Tony said as he hopped back into his Iron Man suit, flying back to the state.
It a shame that suit would not see action again until the whole Loki thing at least that gave Tony time to upgrade it. So, he could remote it safety from a janitor room. It also helped that less people knew about it saving that whole Hammer tech incident.
Yinsen isn't too sure what happened. Oh, he knows is people are screaming there's fire everywhere and a strange suit spotted him. Picking him up and flying him of into a nice small town. It would take three years for him to build up his life again the lost of his family still a heartbreak for him, but whoever was sending him money to help him with his life Yinsen was forever thankful for.
Fury stared.
Tony Stark smiled.
Fury kept staring.
Tony Stark grinned only grew.
Fury decided that he never expected a happy Tony Stark. Not one that smiles so much, whistling when happy and travels around the globe as a pass time. All while given an unknown woman by the name of Pepper Potts CEO position.
"What are you doing on my Helicarrier?" Fury asked.
"Cleaning."
Fury didn't even think the man was getting pay, granted he got a feeling Stark didn't care if he was getting pay or not.
"Your cleaning?"
"Yes, it was horribly messy and your spies are not very good cleaners."
That's because they we're well-trained spies not well-trained cleaners.
"So, you hack into my system and broke in just to clean?"
"Yep, that's pretty much and you guys didn't even notice. Will Phil noticed, but he's Phil. I like Phil. You're not going to kill him of, are you? Like fake his death that would make me terribly upset."
"And, why didn't Agent Coulson tell me that you we're working here as a cleaner, Stark?"
"Oh, that's simple," Stark said sounding far too delighted. "I asked him not to."
"You expected me to believe that one of my trained Agent didn't tell me because you asked him not to?"
"Yes, but don't worry I asked him nicely."
He still didn't believe it.
"And, I gave him Captain America cards to keep it hushed."
Now, it was believable.
Fury isn't too sure what to do here. Stark not meant to be here, but he also isn't causing trouble and from his understanding Stark not always here either. He tends to travel a lot and if Stark was only cleaning and not trying to steal secret information then Fury will let it side this one time. Just this one time. He swears if another billionaire breaks into the place just to be a cleaner, he going kick them out and send them to the middle of the ocean where they can swim back home.
Natasha meets him soon after she walked through an empty hall only to pause at the sound of someone clearing their throat. She turned around and unlike the others she does recognize him. Stark face isn't in the public much, but it's hard to miss and she sees him staring at her with a frown.
Which is odd, because she heard from other Agents that he's a fairly happy guy he didn't talk too much and stayed out of everyone way, but he was good at conversations and here she was frowning at him like she did some awful crime.
"Can I help you?" she asked.
He pointed to the wet floor sign. It didn't take her long to figure out that Tony Stark was upset with her for walking on a wet floor that he obviously just cleaned.
She lets him be after that and tried not to walk on anymore wet floors because if looks could killed she would've been dead the moment he glared at her.
Clint meets him next. He's keeping an eye on Loki who is trapped behind glass. But then Loki broke out and all of a sudden, the God walking towards him trying to brainwash him. The God fails though because a flash of blue light sends the God flying of to who knows where and the person who did it was some sort of bot.
"Point one to Iron man zero points for Loki," the cleaner said as he swipes the floor with a mop.
"Um, who are you?" Clint asked.
"It will come you eventually," the cleaner said whistling away and walking of with the strange bot following him.
Clint blinked seven times before he finally realized he needed to report this to Fury.
Steve sees him next.
He recalled asking about Howard son, but the man was impossible to contact always on the move always up to something and never where he should be. All the world knows is that Tony Stark became some sort of cleaner that casually shows his face to public. To tell everything, hey, I'm still alive and then disappears again to who knows where.
Steve a bit disappoint that is the case and as the group around them chat and talk about their next plan of attack the cleaner walked by the room. His whistling is heard first before the man is spotted when Bruce brings up the question.
"Do I know you from somewhere?"
The man turned and raised an eyebrow with a walking robot beside him.
"I went looking for curry," he said. "I didn't find it though."
And, of he goes again down the hall his whistling heard before Thor speaks.
"That must've been brother Tony."
"You know the cleaner?" Clint asked.
"Cleaner?"
"Yep, that's the cleaner. He always all over the place and that bot of his."
"Brother Tony had helped me when I first came here before I found my beloved," Thor explained.
"Did you say Tony?" Steve asked. "As in Tony Stark?"
"Yep, that's him." Natasha said.
"What Howard son doing as a cleaner?"
Phil walked in with paper work.
"He likes cleaning," the Agent said.
"You mean to tell me a billionaire son decided to be a cleaner?" Steve asked slowly just to make sure he got this all correctly.
"Yeah, pretty much," Clint said.
He supposed if it made Tony happy then who was he to question Stark life choices?
It's during the battle where he meets him again after the man hack into their cons and casually walked up to them in the battle with a remote in his hand.
"You shouldn't be out here," Steve said.
"Nor, should that nuke. But don't worry I have the perfect place to put it."
He wonders for a second what nuke he was talking about before the suit he saw early comes flying by them and sends a nuke right up to space killing the aliens in the process. Tony Stark looked terribly sad.
"Shame to. I liked that suit. Aww well, let's go see Loki so I can kick him out of my tower."
"That's your tower?" Steve asked as Tony walked ahead.
"Yep, hey is the green guy coming along?"
He had never heard anyone call the Hulk green guy so casually.
Phil did fake his death a fact the Avengers learnt soon after when Tony demanded to see the Agent or else, he was never coming back to clean again. Not really a problem, since they had a lot of cleaners, but while the Agents would never tell Stark. He was the best cleaner they had and the idea of him leaving was enough for them to all to glare at Fury and bring Phil back, or else Tony will go on strike.
So, Phil alive, hurt, but alive and crying over fake blood on his beloved cards and Tony saying he will be back next month because he going back to Brazil to look for curry. Taking an unwilling Bruce Banner along with him.
