A/N: So, this is going to be my take on a WBWL story. I've been reading a lot of those lately, and I finally got up the courage to try one myself. I hope you all like it. This is just the prologue, which is why it is a little short. I'm hoping to make the actual chapters longer. I'm not sure when I will be updating as of this moment, but once I have a good idea of what the schedule will be I will let you guys know in a future A/N. Now on to the story. Enjoy!
Our story begins on Halloween night of 1981, in a small little wizarding town by the name of Godric's Hollow. In a cottage that can't be seen due to a powerful enchantment, the Fidelius Charm, two little boys both a year and three months old sleep peacefully in their cribs while the babysitter sits reading a Witch Weekly magazine downstairs. These little boys are the Potter twins, Christopher and Harrison, or Chris and Harry as they were known by family and friends. Unbeknownst to the boys and their babysitter, their lives were about to change for the worse for just down the street a dark figure had appeared out of nowhere. This figure was Voldemort, the Dark Lord. Voldemort reached into his robe and pulled out the small piece of parchment that would let him break through the enchantment placed on the cottage.
"The Potter's can be found at The Potter Cottage in Godric's Hollow." The note read. As soon as he was done reading the note that had been written for him by his faithful and sniveling servant Wormtail, the cottage materialized out of thin air. Grinning to himself Voldemort strode down the street a little way to the front door of said cottage before demolishing the door off the hinges with a blasting curse. The babysitter jumped to her feet, drawing her wand to try and defend herself, but it was already too late. The green light of the Killing Curse flashed out of Voldemort's yew wand and struck her directly in the chest. She was dead before her body hit the ground. Voldemort slowly glided up the stairs to the twins' nursery, who had been awakened by the blasting curse that happened moments before. He entered the room to see two black haired babies staring at him. The hazel eyed child looked ready to cry at any moment, whereas the green eyed one just looked curious.
"One of you are prophesized to be my downfall, but I am not sure which. So, to be safe I am going to kill you both. It is such a tragedy as magical children should be cherished; however, I will not be defeated before I can claim all the power that I am destined to claim." Voldemort mused aloud as he looked between the children, deciding which to kill first. The hazel eyed one, Chris, if the sign above his crib is to be believed finally started crying when he heard the cold, terrifying voice of his would-be assailant. Harry, however, continued to just keep staring at the intruder. Voldemort felt for the magical aura surrounding both children and was slightly stunned at the amount of energy radiating from the one called Harry. Deciding then and there, that he would kill the more powerful twin first, he raised his wand and pointed it directly at Harry's forehead.
"Avada Kedavra." He shouted, only to be driven back by the force of the curse as it rebounded against him. He could feel the exact moment that his soul was ripped from his body, an excruciating pain radiating all throughout his mind. He watched as his lifeless body crumbled to dust before his spirit flew through the wall of the disintegrating cottage. The force of the curse that had destroyed his body, was enough to completely explode the nursery, and most of that side of the cottage. Voldemort's soul fled so quickly that he missed the formation of a curiously shaped scar that formed directly where he had cast the Killing Curse at Harry. No one would really be that interested in the scar though, because when the roof collapsed, a piece of the rafter about Chris' crib fell and managed to open a wound on his forehead as well, this scar would be in the shape of a capital V.
Now some of you may be wondering where the Potter parents were at this time, and why they had left the protection of their charmed cottage. Well, you see James and Lily were still a part of the Order of the Phoenix and they were presently at a top-secret meeting of the Order. However, as soon as the wards were tripped, they were alerted to something bad happening. They were too late to stop anything though. They apparated right outside of the cottage just in time to see the explosion from the nursery. Fearing for their children's lives, they immediately ran inside and up the stairs, sparing a sad glance towards the babysitter that had lost her life today. They reached to nursery and rushed to find their boys under all the debris that had fallen as a result of the blast.
Lily heard a small groan from somewhere close by and used her wand to remove the rubble in that general area. She was relieved slightly when she saw the little tuft of black hair and rushed forward to grab the baby that was there.
"James, I've got Chris! Have you found Harry yet?" She questioned her husband, who was frantically looking through the wreckage of the room.
"Not yet! I can't find him Lils!" James shouted as his search got more and more desperate looking for his son. Finally, just when he had almost given up hope of finding Harry, he saw a tiny little hand peeking through some of the rubble. He dug his way through to the boy that lay beneath and yanked his son into his arms in relief.
"I've found him! We need to get to Hogwarts. Dumbledore will need to know what happened here." James said as he walked to where his wife was standing cradling Chris in her arms as he was Harry.
"Of course. Let's go." The couple made their way outside and apparated to the front gate of Hogwarts since they couldn't apparate inside the school's wards. The gate opened as soon as the appeared and they mad their way up to the front door of the school, which was already open, and Dumbledore was there to greet them.
"James, Lily how are the boys?" The headmaster asked kindly as the family got closer.
"They're okay, thankfully. A little shaken up I'm sure but otherwise they seem unharmed. We haven't had the chance to do a full exam on them though. May we go to your office, Headmaster? So we may check them over fully." Lily answered.
"Of course, my dear girl." Albus replied as he turned around to lead them to his office.
The stone gargoyle that guarded the entrance to his office jumped aside as the headmaster gave the password of "lemon drops," his current favorite candy. The ascended the spiral staircase and entered the office. Dumbledore conjured two cots to lay the boys on and both James and Lily were slightly nervous to let go of their sons, irrationally fearing the worst.
Dumbledore seemed to sense this as he did all things and reassured them both that they were perfectly safe inside of the school. Nothing and no one would be able to hurt the boys here, not while he was around to prevent it. Feeling calmed the parents laid each of the boys on one of the cots the headmaster had summoned.
"Let's take a look at them, shall we?" Dumbledore mused aloud as he stepped up to the first cot that Chris laid upon. He removed his wand from inside his robe and performed a few diagnostic charms on the little tyke.
"Hmm." Dumbledore hummed as he finished with Chris and moved on to Harry, performing the same charms he had on his brother.
"While I can't make a definite conclusion as to what happened tonight, what I can say is that I believe Voldemort," both James and Lily jumped at the name, "attacked the boys hoping to kill them so that they could not fulfill the prophecy. However, he was not aware of the full prophecy and instead he made it a self-fulfilling prophecy, due to attacking the boys and marking one of them as his equal. Which I believe to be Chris, as his scar is more prominent. He is also radiating with magical energy, whereas Harry seems to barely have any magical energy about him. In truth Harry might be a squib, but we won't know that until later in his life."
"Harry has a scar as well though. Where did it come from if not from, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named?" Lily questioned.
"The whole room was destroyed, correct?" When James nodded his assent Dumbledore continued, "I believe a falling piece of wood or glass is the reason behind little Harry's scar. As I stated his magical energy is much weaker than his brother's."
"What does all this mean Headmaster?" James spoke up for the first time since stepping into the office, wondering just how this would change his family's lives.
"It means that your son, Chris, is the one destined to defeat Voldemort. I fear that he is not gone for good, just temporarily. However, for right now we celebrate." He summoned drinks for each of them and raised his glass in a toast. "To Christopher Potter, The Boy-Who-Lived!" Not realizing just what this night would mean for the other Potter twin, and how much he had just ruined the boy's life before it had even truly begun.
