I do not own any Harry Potter Characters. I used a lot of lines from my favorite shows, if you spot one, I didn't credit let me know. So, I can add it to the list. Do not own Vampire Diaries quotes, the 100 Quotes, Buffy the Vampire Slayer quotes, or Once Upon A Time quotes. It's been almost 15 years since I've written a fanfiction so if you notice any mistakes let me know. Thank you. First Chapter is a little slow, sorry.

"You are protected, in short, by your ability to love!" — Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Chapter 1:

The only thing Katie she ever genuinely wanted, was to play quidditch professionally. Ever since she was little her happiest memories were of watching quidditch matches with her father. Her upbringing had been wonderful growing up as an only child in a small town in New York.

Katie had spent years begging her dad to let her learn how to fly, Mr. Bell would constantly tell her no and that it was too complicated with Rappaports Law. It was a wizarding law enacted to create absolute segregation between the No-Majs also called muggles and the wizarding communities. It outlawed witches and wizards from even being friends with a No-Maj let alone having a relationship with them. Only allowing simple exchanges that had to be deemed crucial to preform daily activities.

She was determined to fly though, often stealing her dads' broom and practicing in the barn in their backyard late at night. Unfortunately, one night she had crashed, breaking the broom in the process. It was then that her dad finally agreed to teach her how to use a broom. Having to set up travel arrangements by port key to a safe location where they could practice.

When she was old enough, she was enrolled to Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In her first year she was able to join her house team as a chaser, as her school didn't have any bans on first years. Regrettably, this year the quidditch season had been canceled because of a breach in security with the No-Majs. She pleaded with her parents to let her do an exchange program for one year or until quidditch was brought back. Her father agreed and the enrolled her to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, which had a great reputation for their quidditch team. She had personally trained with a few of them at a quidditch summer program.

So that is how Katie found herself playing with her silver heart necklace as she patiently waited, for her turn to be sorted into one of the four separate houses. She wrinkled her freckled nose at the thought of having to put the hat on her head after all the other students. Not to mention the thing looked like it was drug through the mud or stuffed in the bottom of a hoarder's house for 40 years. It looked frumpy and probably smelled of mildew. "Haven't they heard of lice?" she whispered to the girl she had just met a few minutes ago.

Hermione let out a quick snort and explained the history of the sorting hat in a soft whisper. "The hat used to belong to Godric Gryffindor, he's one of the four founders of Hogwarts."

"Katie Bell" McGonagall called. Shaking her hands by her side and willing up the courage she walked over to the stool and sat down. Soon the hat was placed upon her head, holding her breath. Katie waited for it to speak, just like it had done with the other students before her. When it did, she felt the hat move upon her head "Hm, just like your father, I know just the place for you. GRIFFINDOR"

One of the tables broke out in applause as the hat was plucked off her head. She stood up from the stool and descended the stairs, finding a seat at her new house table. She sat there patiently while the rest of the students were sorted. When all was said and done McGonagall dinged her goblet, getting the attention of the students. "Your attention, please"

Dumbledore stood from his chair "Let the feast… begin." Suddenly food appeared on all the tables. The Great Hall erupted in cheers and awe, everyone shuffling to grab different plates.

Next to her she heard a girl ask the boy she was sitting beside to move over. The blonde-haired boy quickly shuffled away from Katie and two girls squeezed in next to her. "Hi, I'm Angelina Johnson and this is Alicia Spinnet." The girl sitting directly next to Katie greeted.

"It's nice to meet you, I'm Katie Bell" Katie greeted back trying to ignore the food in front of her. She felt her stomach start to rumble with the sight of the feast.

"What year are you in?" Alicia questioned poking her head out from behind Angelina to get a better view of Katie.

"This will be my fourth year, I'm an exchange student from America." Katie replied finally giving in and grabbing a scoop full of potatoes, putting a generous portion on the plate in front of her.

"Oh my gosh! We are in the same year! We should all have the same classes, except for some electives." Alicia squealed clapping her hands together with excitement.

"So, we heard a rumor on the train that you play quidditch, what position do you play?" Angelina questioned her.

"Wow word gets around quick at this school" making a mental note of that she continued "I've always played as a chaser."

Both girls begin to squeal "Us too" at the same time with excitement and then pulled Katie into a three-way side hug, with a forkful of potatoes in her right hand she squeezed them back with her left. "Did we just become best friends?" Angelina questioned with a smirk on her face.

"We definitely did! Perfect for you our quidditch team has two open spots for a seeker and a chaser. That would be so cool to have an all-female chaser team." Alicia stated.

The girls continued to chat and got to know each other better. Realizing that they indeed had a lot in common. Eventually moving to the end of the table, they introduced her to the rest of the quidditch team. The two beaters were identical twins names Fred and George Weasley while the keeper who was the captain of the team was named Oliver Wood. He was handsome, in a charming way. Angelina flirted with George, latching onto his arm, and resting her head against it while she talked. She couldn't help but gaze at Oliver. His eyes, a pale grey blue with flecks of gold, were remarkably warm. He was skinny but handsome, and there was a presence of hidden strength about him.

After a few moments Oliver and Katie's eyes connected, she smiled at him politely then she looked back at Angelina. Although she did not miss the slight pink tint to the young Scottish boy's cheeks.

Later that night they were led to their common rooms for their house. Katie easily found her room with the help of Angelina and Alicia. When she was done getting ready for the night she sat on her bed and writing her parents a short letter, telling them about being sorted into Gryffindor. Katie had been thrilled to find out that her father was in Gryffindor when he had attended school. Rolling it up she tied the letter to her grey owl's ankle. Giving it a treat and lightly stroking it before whispering "Capone, take this to mom." She opened the window, and her owl looked at her curiously. "Come on Capone, not this again. Do you really need two treats?" She grabbed a second treat out of her trunk, holding it out to the bird. It snatched it from her mouth. "Take this home please" The owl hooted at her before flying off.

The girls chatted for a while before they turned in for the night. Soon their dorm room was dark and filled with silence. It was then that Katie finally drifted off to sleep excited to start her first day at Hogwarts the following morning.
