The Ultimate Detective and The Ultimate Hope Gaiden: Naegiri's First Engaged Hairbrushing!
"Kyoko…Kyoko…"
The former detective groaned as she weakly opened her eyes, her vision still hazy as she muttered "Wh…who…?"
At last her vision cleared to reveal a smiling, brown-haired boy who smiled lovingly at her as he cooed "Good morning, Kyoko."
"Ma…Makoto…"
Suddenly the memories of the prior evening came rushing back as Kyoko's eyes widened. Her lips tugged into a warm, loving smile as she tried to sit up.
"Whoa, Kyoko, easy! You're still…"
"I think I can sit up, Makoto." She insisted as she, with some effort, managed to get into a sitting position on her bed. "Good morning." She greeted as she felt Makoto's arm wrap around her back protectively.
Makoto sighed as Kyoko returned the half-embrace and nuzzled his shoulder before he smiled and kissed her cheek.
"I can't believe it…yesterday I was breathing a sigh of relief that you were still alive and now…"
Kyoko smiled in amusement at Makoto's awestruck tone as she finished "And now we're engaged…for the second time" before she wrapped her other arm around his torso and nestled her head against his chest, smiling as each beat of his heart passed her ears.
Makoto completed his embrace as he rubbed her back before his gaze shifted to her unusually unkempt hair.
"Looks like you got a bad case of bedhead."
Kyoko sent him a playful glare as she mumbled "You're lucky I'm too weak to slap you for that right now."
"Right…sorry…" Makoto apologized, only for Kyoko to shake her head.
"It's okay, really." She assured him before she pulled away and remarked "I admit that my hair could use a little brushing. It's too bad that I can't get my…what?"
"Hm?" Makoto asked as his fiancée trailed off "Kyoko, what's wrong?"
"Makoto…could you get that for me, please?" Kyoko asked as she pointed to a simple hairbrush sitting on the end table next to her bed.
Makoto nodded and reached for it, inspecting it as he held it in front of them.
"It would seem there's a post-it note on the end of the brush…" Kyoko observed.
Makoto nodded and removed the sticky parchment before he held it at a proper angle for him and Kyoko to read it.
"Figured you'd want Makoto to brush your hair when you wake up, so I left this for you.
-Hina"
The both of them blushed in embarrassment as Makoto asked "So…ano…what do you…?"
Kyoko sighed and admitted "…Well, since she was kind enough to leave this for us, and my hair could use a little brushing…I don't…mind…" She allowed herself to smile as she finished "Besides, it'll be just like the good old days when we lived together at Hope's Peak."
"Y…yeah…just, hold on a moment…" Makoto smiled bashfully as he gently moved Kyoko so that she could sit on his lap.
Her face rested against his chest as he wrapped an arm around her back for support as he lifted the hairbrush and began to gently stroke it down the waterfall of hair.
"Oh, Makoto…" Kyoko mumbled as she felt herself relax even more against her fiancé.
Makoto smiled lovingly at her as they both flashed back to the nights before the Killing Game where she would fall asleep against him as he brushed her hair.
"…Alright, alright, that's enough." Kyoko mumbled as she gently pushed his hand away. "If you keep doing that, I'm gonna fall asleep."
"…Is that such a bad thing? You are still recovering after all." Makoto pointed out.
"…Makoto, I've been asleep all night. I'm well rested, and more importantly, I'm hungry."
Kyoko's stomach rumbled as though to prove her point, which caused her to blush as Makoto smiled in amusement.
He put the brush down on the end table as he acquiesced "Alright, alright, I'll make you some breakfast and I'll be right back."
"Your mom's homemade soup, please." Kyoko requested.
Makoto chuckled "Alright, alright, soup it is" as he got up and walked towards the door. As he opened it, he turned around and smiled lovingly at her before he told her "I'll be back before you know it. I love you, Kyoko."
"I love you too, Makoto." He heard her say before he closed the door behind him.
"…Alright, time to start cooking for Kyoko!" The first of hopefully many times to come… Makoto thought as he walked towards the Future Foundation kitchen, his mother's soup recipe at the forefront of his mind, along with his future wife whom he hoped to please.
