"Speaking"
Izuku's POV
Limping his way through Alderra Middle School he tried to get out before anyone caught up. Bullies had taken to beating him even more since the start high school examinations. Bakugo's words had insighted something of a fire underneath them.
"If you want a quirk that bad. Take a swan dive off the roof and pray for one in your next life."
It wasn't the first time Izuku had been suicide baited. He was a quirkless teenager and everyone thought he was worthless. Well... no. Not everyone. There were two who thought he was worth something. Three if he counted Noise. Then again Noise was the hardest person in the world to read.
Rubbing a hand down his face as he took a corner and almost ran straight into someone. It was only thanks to his vigilante reflexes that he avoided running straight into them. He stepped back and opened his mouth to apologize to the person.
Only to pause. Standing in front of him was a familiar man in all black around his neck was a capture scarf. Izuku's mouth went dry at the sight. What the hell was Eraserhead doing here?!
Tired onyx eyes watched him. The man didnt say a word but raised an eyebrow in question. Izuku moved back his head bowed trying hard not to meet the man's gaze.
A hand reached for him just within his vision and Izuku flinched back away from the hand. It stopped just a few inches away from him.
A tired voice ordered, "Hold up kid," Izuku paused cursing his bad luck silently, "I'm looking for the office. Can you help me?"
Izuku gave the man a dubious look. This man was a hero, more specifically an underground. Information was their livelihood.
How did he not know where the basic offices were for Middle Schools? Better yet how in the twelve hells had this man reached the third floor looking for the offices?
Izuku answered quietly not meeting the man's gaze, "Go down two floors. There is a stairwell if you go down this hall and take the first left. From there you need to take the north hallway. That will take you straight to office."
The man grunted thanks before starting towards the direction Izuku put him in. Eraser only took a few steps before he paused, as if noticing Izuku following slowly. He was going at a slower pace than the hero. More wary of what the other would do.
Eraser questioned over his shoulder his stride slowing almost imprecitably, "What's your name kid? By your uniform you're a third year. Right?"
Izuku eyed the hero sideways as he fell into step beside Eraser. Then he replied faking a smile, "Izuku Midoriya, sir. Yes I'm a 3rd Year preparing for High School Examinations."
"Oh? What schools are you applying to?"
It sounded like a polite question but something made the alarm bells ring within his head. Mistrust filled his green eyes even as he kept his gaze fixed on the ground.
Izuku replied carefully, "UA and a few local schools."
"No other hero schools?"
Shaking his head the boy said as they made their way down the stairs, "UA is the only hero school that will take someone like me."
Eraserhead's forehead pinched as he said his voice hard, "Because you're quirkless?"
Izuku lurched nearly falling down the stairs. His heart lurched as he was heading face first down to the next landing. A hand caught his arm at the elbow right at where a painful burn courtesy of Bakugo.
A pained growl escaped Izuku before he could stop it. Once he was steady on his feet Eraser let go. Checking that his feet were firmly under him turned to face the hero. For the first time since Eraser surprised him, he looked into the man's face.
Green and onyx eyes clashed against each other. Recognition flared within the onyx eyes and Izuku knew that Eraser put two and two together. It was time to go. Right now.
There were a few different escape routes that he could take. Getting away from the hero would be the most difficult. As he moved his foot back away from the man. He prepared his body for a run.
Eraser tried even as he took a step back, "Wait..."
Izuku didnt wait for him to finish as he ran back up the stairs. There was a muffled curse from Eraser as he ran after the boy. He caught the shifting of the air as Eraser threw his capture scarf.
Even in tight quarters he ducked around the scarf. He thrust his shoulder into the doorway and ran out. Out of everyone in the school he was the best suited for running from a hero.
Taking a turn quickly he nearly ran into another. Stepping back and to the side he tried to put space between him and the newcomer. Looking up fire in his green eyes he recognized Tsukauchi. Tired onyx eyes stared down him with a raised eyebrow.
Tsukauchi held his position his hands out in front of him. He tried to reason, "Kage..."
Izuku flinched at the use of his vigilante name. He was going to throw his shoulder into the man's stomach but something soft wrapped around his midsection. Not for the first time Izuku wished he carried his knives.
Struggling against the scarf he tried to get free. It was useless as Eraser's hand came down on his shoulder. Looking up he met the dark eyes of the hero. Then his shoulders slumped he was caught.
"How?" He questioned trying to get a read on the men.
Tsukauchi sighed bending down so that he was eye to eye with Izuku, "There arent many quirkless in this area. Especially for your age group. It still took us a little while to catch up with you."
Izuku sighed. He knew asking Eraserhead if a quirkless could be a hero was risky. Maybe he should have kept his mouth shut. That was viable however. The night he had asked the question had been one of weakness.
"Why do you care?"
Tsukauchi tried to calm him as he reached out a hand, "We care because..."
The hand was just a few centimeters away when he snapped a low growl escaping his chest, "Dont touch me."
The hand paused a hurt look crossing the man's face. Then the detective looked up at Eraser who hauled Izuku up onto his feet. The hand kept him steady even if he was unsure of the two's motivation.
The two men led him down through the halls. As they hit hit the first floor Eraserhead's capture scarf released him. He knew it was useless to try and escape at this point.
As they exited the school jeers from his classmates werent even hidden in whispers. Now they were all congratulating the unknown hero in their eyes and police. A few even gave shouts towards Izuku.
Eraserhead's hand tightened around his shoulder. Izuku hid a wince but from the way the grip loosened he knew that the man had seen it. When they reached a nondescript car Tsukauchi opened the door. Izuku got inside and Eraserhead got in beside him.
They didnt go far. Not even the entire way back to the police station. Izuku was surprise to find that they were in front of an apartment building. As he moved to follow men inside he felt a presence pressed against his. Noise...
Without outwardly reacting he opened himself up to the other vigilante, :I might need some help.:
:Oh?: came the curious baritone voice.
:Yes,: he replied eyeing the hero and detective warily, :Our favorite detective and hero found out who I am. Any ideas on how to get out of this?:
:Let them help you, brat,: ordered the older vigilante.
:And fuck you too, Noise.: came his annoyed growled thought.
Noise didn't reply in words. Instead there was a feeling amusement but an undertone of worry clung to him. Izuku could hear him trying to use his calming techniques.
:I am the Circle. The Circle is me,: was on repeat in the background of the man's mind. Then he said, :I'll be close by in case they try something dangerous. However you should hear them out. I dont sense any ill intentions.:
:Fine,: grunted the younger in acknowledgment.
Izuku nearly ran into Tsukauchi as the other stopped in front of a door. They were on the fourth floor he realized. So lost in his communication with Noise he hadn't paid any attention to the layout of the building.
The door was unlocked and Izuku was gently pushed inside. Tsukauchi went into the kitchen and surprisingly began to make tea for the three. Eraserhead indicated for the younger to seat himself in the chair or couch based on his preference.
Izuku took the chair mistrustful. Eraser sat in front of him and they waited silently assessing each other. A few moments of silence passed until Tsukauchi brought each of them a cup of tea. Izuku cupped his not taking a sip of the hot liquid until both men had done so first.
The warmth of the drink spread through him. Some of his more tense muscles relaxed. The tense atmosphere relaxed slowly as the two men watched him.
Then Tsukauchi said, "Izuku Midoriya we know you're Kage the vigilante. We also know that you cannot be charged as a vigilante. Since you're quirkless."
Izuku narrowed his eyes as he questioned, "Then what do you want from me? I'm not going to stop just because you tell me to."
Eraserhead pinched the bridge of his nose as Tsukauchi said, "We want you to be happy and healthy. Dont think I dont see how thin you are. When we checked your records we found a false apartment number. Are you homeless?"
Izuku shrugged not answering. His hand reaching up to run uncertainly at one of the many burns. With his limited resources he was only able wrap it.
Both men's eyes caught the movement and they became icy. Somehow he knew that the icyness wasnt directed to him. Still it sent a shiver down his spine.
Eraser put his glass down and reached to check Izuku over. Icyly the boy ordered again, "Dont touch me."
A flash of hurt flared through the man's eyes. The two adults shared a look before Tsukauchi said diplomatically, "We just want to make sure that you arent injured. Can we see?"
"No," denied the younger immediately.
Both men opened their mouths to argue and Izuku stiffened. Only for all three of them went board stiff. Their minds were touched by the same telepathic link. It was strained but the three of them could hear and feel each other. As well as a fourth person Izuku was all too familiar.
Izuku and Eraser greeted at the same time, :Noise.:
Izuku had already been connected to Noise but the feeling of the other two was awkward. Their strained connection he could tell was taking its toll on his fellow vigilante.
Tsukauchi said outloud, "Noise. The vigilante?!"
Izuku shrugged, "He's an old friend. Noise is one of the few people I trust."
Not that it mattered anymore. He looked around at the apartment. They searched the room for escape routes.
Noise growled annoyed and pained, :Dont even think about it, brat. I am tired of you watching you slowly kill yourself with overwork. Let them help you.:
:Bite me, Noise. First rule of being a vigilante. Trust no one.:
Izuku got the distinct feeling that the other was laughing at him. He wanted to flip him off and run heading for the window. He knew it was useless the hero would have him wrapped up in the capture scarf a second time.
Tsukauchi looked at him with a look of disappointment and pain. Eraser was also looking at him. His look was unreadable even with the telepathic link between them.
:You will listen to me,: snapped the vigilante causing Izuku to flinch back in surprise. The man never yelled at him in person or through the link, :They want to help you. If they wanted to bring you in then they would have taken you to the police station. Or a hero agency. Instead they brought you to Tsukauchi's personal apartment."
Noise paused it seemed as if he was sighing, :You need more people on your side, kid. In your current state you wont be able to keep up your patrols much longer. You've lost most of your weight since you were kicked out. If it keeps up you will be dead by winter from starvation.:
Izuku knew it was true. He barely had any muscle or fat at all. His mother had kicked him out two years ago. There was barely any food that he could get his hands on.
Most of it thrown away until he dumpster dove. School didnt even provide him a free meal like it should have. To them he was simply a quirkless brat that should have died years ago. So he was slowly being starved out of existence.
Both Tsukauchi and Eraser's faces were stormy. They heard all of his thoughts and didnt like what they heard.
Eraser said turning away his attention to Izuku's physical form, "I told you I would take care of you, Ka... Izuku. Please let us."
Noise's voice ran through Izuku's mind the other connections cutting off, :A little faith goes a long way, kid.:
Faith huh? Noise had never led him wrong before. Maybe a little faith wouldnt hurt.
