The story bellow, despite of taking place around my storyline, isn´t a big plot story, instead, its just a silly one i decided to write involving a secundary character from the show, so, here in this story, i present you James Pendrick, a inventor whit great perspectives of the future.
Other than that, i just placed this story on a storyline, just to have a good excuse for the inventor gone visit the detective.
Hope you enjoy this story and don´t find it too silly.
Have fun!
DETECTIVE FOR A DAY
The famous inventor James Fergus Pendrick couldn´t help but laugh every time he recall the day he became a detective for an afternoon. It was a raining day and he had gone visit his friend, the former detective William Murdoch at his hotel.
That day in question, he had brought a gift to his old friend, a motorized wheelchair himself build, to give his friend a little independence, since he has been stuck on a wheelchair, after trying to help the police solve a murder, even with his poor health.
Once doing that, James was about to leave the hotel, when he spotted an old woman asking everyone around about her missing dog. He sympathized with the woman and remembering that when he lots his own dog years ago, no one helped him, so he decided to help the woman, as he didn´t wish that suffering for anyone.
The dog in question, was a 1-year-old white poodle name Rodney, who keeps running away from the apartment every now and then.
Sure, to be honest, he wasn't a detective, so, once asking about a picture of the dog, he rushed back to the Murdochs, in order to know from where he could start looking.
''Well, first, you need to ask Mrs. Grant when she last seen Rodney and then, ask around if someone had seeing him,'' It was Julia who explained, since William was dozing off on his chair when the inventor came back. ''From what I know about Rodney, he´s playful and likes to explore, but he never left this floor… just last week he hide here and almost give me and William a scare.'' Julia recalled, but said it wasn´t the case now.
This way, James rushed back to Mrs. Grant´s room, where the old woman still felt distraught. Sure, once she saw the inventor, she open up a smile, thinking that he had found her dog, however, when he came with empty hands, she start to cry again.
''Mrs. Grant, may I ask you, when was the last time you saw your dog?'' James asked.
''Oh, it was this morning, I asked for room-services and then I didn't saw my Rodney anymore,'' She sobbed. ''You believe someone had stolen him?''
''Don´t worry Ma´am, I will came back with you dog by the end of this afternoon, you see, no one had taken him from you.'' James smiled and the old lady couldn't stop thanking him.

Next step as Julia suggested, was asking around if someone had seen Rodney. At first, he asked around the Murdoch´s floor, with no avail, however, when someone told him they saw the dog going into the elevator, James Pendrick decided to follow the lead and went back to the hallway, still asking for the missing dog, when an older man approaching him with a frown.
''Good afternoon, Sir, my name is Ralph Fellows, I'm the hotel detective and who are you?'' he asked and confused James Pendrick just reach out a hand to shake.
''My name is James Pendrick, I'm just looking for a missing dog, a guest asked my help to find him, his name is Rodney.'' He said politely.
''I see… Mr. Pendrick, if i, who is a detective from this hotel, isn't bothering with a missing mutt, why should you, who is no one, bothering the guests with it?''
''From what I may concern, I'm not bothering anyone, I'm just helping a lady find her dog, something you, as a detective should be doing.'' The inventor snapped and left without another word.
For another half an hour, the inventor walks around, asking for Rodney, but no avail, as it seems that the dog have vanished into tin air, still, when he was about to lose hope and inform Mrs. Grant someone had indeed stolen her dog, he hear someone say something about an uproar on the kitchen and decided to investigate it.
Once arriving there, James Pendrick looked perplexed at the scene, as Rodney, the young runaway poodle tried to eat every piece of food in front of him, while the workers tried to prevent him to do so.
So, with a smile, James Pendrick picks up the dog, apologize for the mess and went to retrieve Rodney to his owner, Mrs. Grant, who cries when seeing him safe and sound.
''My guess is that Rodney had jumped into the waste basked when the room-service arrived and enjoyed all the trip down to the kitchen.'' James laughed, upon telling the story to William and Julia a few hours later.
''That's.. quiet something!'' Agreed William.
''Congratulations on solving a case, Mr. Pendrick.'' Julia congratulated him.
''I just advised Mrs. Grant to buy Rodney a leash… or maybe I will plant a ship on him.''
''How you… will do it?'' William asked confused.
''It was a joke William!'' Julia told her husband who blushed.
''Well, anyway, the thing is, if my inventions failed, I can became a detective,'' he laugh. ''By the way, who is this Ralph Fellows? He didn´t seemed pleased for having someone else asking questions around the hotel.'' James asked and in response it was Julia who make a disgusting face.
''He´s just a rude and useless man who think himself as a detective, don´t worry about him, he wont goin to call the police on you.'' she said.
''I see…'' James Pendrick nodded. ''Well, now I really need to take my leave. Murdoch, I'm happy that you liked the gift, I hope it had helped you indeed.'' He said and the former detective nodded. ''See you my friends and I hope to see you for dinner soon.'' James said and after a pat on William´s shoulder and a kiss on Julia´s hand, he left, still not believing that from all people, he, an inventor, managed to lead an investigation by himself.
END.
