Rough blue waters, as far as his eyescould see, the harsh rainfall hitting the boy like pellets of ice; even so the boy didn't flinch, his eyes clouded as he stood at the edge of the cliff. The loud sound of the rough waves pounding against the jagged rocks pointing out from the water below barely registering in his head, his feet so close to the edge that a single step would be enough to send him spiraling to his death, distantly the boy could hear the sound of someone screaming but he paid it no mind.
Slowly the figures eyes moved down to focus on the deadly pillars piercing the sea. He let out a slow breath and cast one last glance at the sky, the rain drops stinging against his flesh, the screams were getting louder but he refused to look back, If he looked back he wouldn't be able to do it afterall.
'I... Shouldn't have survived... It shouldn't have been me... I Shouldn't...have been born'
Finally the boy moved, he took one step forward.
"Ah!?" His eyes bolted open, having been woken up so harshly it took Sasuke a few seconds to register what had happened. He slowly sat up bringing his palm up to his head Sasuke wiped the sweat from his forehead.
'What was that, that dream felt so...real.' Pulling the covers off Sasuke sat at the edge of his bed, taking a moment to get his breathing back to normal. Sasuke was used to having nightmares but it had never been like this, he usually dreamed of that terrible night, in fact he dreamed of it so much he had come to expect it whenever he closed his eyes to sleep, but this dream was different.
'I can usually remember my dreams so vividly but this one, this dream felt so...muddy, even now I'm struggling to remember it, so why, why do I feel like this!'
His body and mind were racing, despite trying to calm down his breathing was still uneven and his heart was still beating far too fast for comfort, already he barely remembered anything about the dream yet its as if his body was reacting to something he couldn't remember. Resigning himself he let out a small sigh and prepared to go downstairs to the living room for some water.
Reaching the steps that led to the first floor he realized the light was on, judging by how dark it was outside his window it should be well past midnight and everyone should be asleep. Moving slowly so as not alert the person he took a peek in the living room and saw that it was surprisingly his pseudo sister, Ruby, she was sitting on the sofa alone staring at her hands, her short hair in a mess and eyes cloudy suggesting she'd probably recently awoken aswell.
"What are you doing up at this hour?"
"eh!?" She gasped, turning to him startled by his sudden question. "Ah, Sasuke. You scared me." Ruby said softly as she placed a hand on her pajama clad chest looking relieved.
He moved to sit on the couch in front of her, ignoring his thirst and deeming this more important.
"You didn't answer, what are you doing up this late?"
"Aahh w-well...I uh...I had a dream about mom."
As ruby said this she cast her gaze downwards, her hair slightly covering her eyes. Summer rose, ruby's mom and the woman who had forcefully taken Sasuke in after the incident. To Sasuke she was a woman who had a strong presence when she was around, she was shy and headstrong at the same time, she could be calm and quiet but also annoyingly intrusive, she was also one of the most courageous people he had ever met. Unfortunately that courage was her downfall, taking a dangerous mission without any backup, she became just another name in the long list of people Sasuke had lost.
He'd never openly talked to her about it but he could tell Summer's death hit her harder than it had him, which is obvious considering she was Ruby's mother and all. Still he had cared for her more than he'd ever admitted to Summer, she had helped him more times than he could count when he was still being affected by the nightmares.
"I see." He got up and moved to sit next to her, the young Uchiha knew he wasn't good with words so he decided the least he could do is be with her until she can get back to sleep. As he sat down he saw a small smile form on her lips resembling more of her usual cheery self.
"Thanks for this. Y'know Sasuke, despite what dad might say, I think your great the way you are"
At her words Sasuke frowned a bit. Taiyang had tried on multiple occasions to get him to socialize and open up more, usually involving other boys from the neighborhood. Each time it would just end up in Sasuke ignoring or outright ditching them, not being interested in interacting with others when he could better spend his time honing his skills.
"Mm. So have you gotten your things in order for our departure tomorrow?"
"Mhm, I've got my comics, my articles and my clothes packed, hopefully tomorrow goes off without a hitch, I'm uh... K-kinda nervous hehe..."
Yes, tomorrow the three siblings would depart for their new school 'Beacon academy'. It seems ruby was trying to make light of her nervousness but Sasuke could tell it was affecting her more than she wanted to show. It was only natural for Ruby to feel so after all, with the news having been sprung on her so suddenly. She'd apparently stopped a robbery and been invited to beacon by the headmaster himself, knowing her she was probably too excited to be nervous when she agreed but now that all that excitement had worn off she'd been left like this for the past few days. She tried to hide it of course but Sasuke has known her long enough to see through her.
"Yang and I will be with you, you won't be alone. I uh...promise." Normally Sasuke avoids situations like this, he's not good at comforting people and often times just makes the situation worse but he could tell Ruby wanted the company right now and she was one of the few people he would step out of his comfort zone for. To prove it he did something he hadn't done in a while and he slightly placed his fingers over hers which where on her lap, it wasn't a full blown hand hold but it was more than he was willing to do for anyone else and Ruby knew that. Sasuke looked away as she lifted her face full of surprise to stare at his.
Slowly Ruby's face relaxed back into its natural state as a much wider smile formed. "Yeah. I know you will. You always are." closing her eyes she laid her head on Sasuke's shoulder and closed her eyes.
Keeping still so as not to disturb her until he knew she was asleep the young Uchiha let out a soft sigh, even a simple interaction like this was more taxing to him than an hour of intense training. Looking at her sleeping face, so peaceful, nothing like her usual rambunctious self. He recalled how annoying he thought she was when they first met, back then he never would have thought he'd grow to care for her or any of the people(and dog) in this house so much. Even qrow his teacher had grown on him, but no matter what, no matter how comfortable he got with them, he couldn't forget. He wouldn't let himself forget the reason he'd kept on living for so long, he had a goal and he would achieve it no matter what.
Tomorrow would be his entrance into beacon, from everything he'd heard that school always produced the best hunters, it would be his best bet to gaining strength so no matter what he had to get accepted. Beacon would be his first step to achieving his goal, although judging by what happened he was sure they'd be weary of accepting another Uchiha, which is why he'd have to pass the entrance exam so perfectly that they'd have zero reason to turn him away. As more of these thoughts filled his head Sasuke eventually found himself unable to stay awake, his head falling to lay on top of his sister's, finally succumbing to sleep.
Once again his dreams were plagued by a familiar scene of blood red.
Welp, this just popped into my head. Honestly at this point I'm just writing to get these ideas out of my head, I might continue this if I get the drive but considering it's something I was only willing to spend 2 hours on its probably gonna be a while if I do. Also sorry if my grammar is bad, it's not my first language. There's alot I left unexplained just in case I do get the drive to continue but if you see any mistakes feel free to point them out.
Thanks for reading.
