a/n: Some people might think that some of the reviews are... confusing. That's because, for about an hour and a half, the wrong text document had been posted for this fic. I had updated the fic shortly after publishing it and accidently selected the file from "Vita Post Mortem". Now it's supposed to be fixed (it is for me) so just ignore those reviews. ;)
It was late at night, during the last few days before the Christmas Holidays. In a first-floor corridor, a young man and woman were walking, hand in hand. The two were smiling at each other. They had just come back from the Slug Club Christmas party and were walking toward Gryffindor Tower.
The couple were still in the early stages of their relationship, having only begun dating a short month before. Neither of them had originally been interested in attending the party, preferring to spend time together instead, but they had eventually decided to go, albeit reluctantly.
"Well..." spoke the boy with a grin, passing a hand through the black mop of hair he had on his head. "It wasn't as bad as I imagined. It was enjoyable to meet all of those people... well most of them anyway."
"Yes." said the girl. "I really enjoyed speaking with Mr. Amerigo Moldu."
"That's the Healer?"
"Yes." nodded the girl.
"Does that mean you want to go into Healing after you graduate?" asked the boy.
"Maybe, possibly. I thought about doing a career in the Ministry at first, but I don't really trust the Ministry anymore..." Looking at the young man holding her hand, she grinned. "Then again, it might not be a bad idea to have your girlfriend able to patch you up after you end up injured once again?"
"I'm not that bad... am I?" he whined. She started laughing.
"You are. You've ended up more time in the Hospital Wing than any other student to date." Then, more seriously, she quietly added "It always scare me every time..."
The boy stopped and took the girl in his arms. "I'm sorry." he whispered.
"Just... please be careful..." said the girl. "I hate seeing you bedridden. It makes me feel... worthless, I guess."
"Hey!" he whispered. "I don't want you to call my girlfriend worthless." The girl smiled. "You'll always be important for me. You always have been."
"I love you, James..."
"I love you too, Lily." said the boy, as he and the red-haired girl in his arms began kissing.
As James and Lily were kissing in the middle of a corridor, they were suddenly interrupted by a loud crash, which made them jump. Both immediately withdrew their wands, ready to defend themselves if necessary. Then, a voice came through the corridor.
"Honestly, Harry!" said a female voice with amusement. "I told you it wasn't a good idea to snog in a broom cupboard!"
Someone else snorted. "Well, Hermione, you weren't protesting before, were you?" said a male voice with a laugh. The voices continued to speak but they weren't loud enough to allow their spectators to understand them.
James relaxed, smirking. "Seems like we weren't the only ones snogging out of bounds late at night." whispered James to his girlfriend. Lily let out a giggle.
"It would appear you are right, Mr. Potter." said Lily. "I wonder who it is. Their names don't ring any bell to me..."
"Same for me." said James. "I know practically anyone in the higher years and I don't remember anyone having those names."
"Well, there is a Harry in First Year, no?" said Lily. James simply raised an eyebrow. "Right..." she muttered. "Stupid statement. Can't be that kid."
"You think?" snorted James. "Well, why don't we go check who it is?" he asked. He already knew what Lily's answer would be. Lily had always been highly inquisitive. She was never able to let go of a mystery, no matter how big or small they were.
"Okay." said Lily. "Let's go see." she said enthusiastically. "It's our job anyway, as Head Boy and Girl."
James let out a small laugh. "Not wrong." he said. They both lit up their wands, as it was rather dark at this time of the night. They began following the voices.
It turned out that they didn't have to walk for long. The moment they turned at an intersection between two corridors, they ended-up face to face with the other couple. James nearly dropped his lit-up wand in shock. While the girl with brown, curly hair standing in front of his girlfriend wasn't familiar, the boy facing him looked just like him! There were only a few, small differences as far as he could tell. The boy and his companion looked just as surprised as he and Lily must have looked.
"What the..." said both boys at the same time.
"Harry!/James!" chastised both girls.
James was too weirded-out by what was happening. James and his clone looked at each other in the eyes. Suddenly, both acted at the same time. The other boy brought his hand to his pocket to take his wand out. Unfortunately for him, James already had his in his hand, which allowed him to react much faster.
"Stupefy!" cried James. A red spell exited his hand and hit the other boy's chest, who proceeded to collapse on the ground. The girl with brown curly hair let out a yell but she was stunned by Lily before she could do anything more.
James and Lily looked at the stunned couple with shock. "I thought you were the... the last Potter." said Lily, hesitating a bit as the memories of James' dead parents were still fresh in their mind.
"I thought so as well." said James. "Who could they be? I know for a fact that I'm my parents' only son. My cousin and his parents died years ago, so he can't possibly be related to them..."
"Do you think they are Death Eaters impostors?" she asked fearfully.
James shrugged. "Maybe." he simply said.
"What do we do?" asked Lily. James thought about it for a few moments, before an idea crossed his mind.
"I'll bring them back to the Head Boy room." he said. "I want to interrogate them with Veritaserum."
"And where would you find that?"
"You could ask Slughorn?"
"What? James, why would Professor Slughorn give me Veritaserum? It's a restricted potion! There are no chances he would agree without a very good reason!"
"Lily, Slughorn loves you. You're his favourite student! I'm sure if you asked for a bit of Veritaserum because you wanted to play Truth or Dare, he would give some to you without blinking."
Lily groaned. "Fine, I'll do it." she said before she turned around and began retracing their steps.
Not being able to resist, James looked at his girlfriend's arse while she walked away. As if sensing his thoughts, she looked behind her and winked at him.
James shook his head before looking back at the stunned duo in front of him. 'Well, time to get at it.' he thought.
James had just finished attaching the arms and legs of the impostor and his girlfriend to their respective chairs with Incarcerous Spells when Lily entered the room.
"I can't believe that worked..." said Lily, shaking her head.
"You have it?" exclaimed James.
"Yes, James, I have the Veritaserum."
"Told you it would work!" he grinned. Lily rolled her eyes. "Did he ask questions?"
Lily let out a small groan. "No, he didn't." she said. "And I have a feeling you will keep reminding me you were right for the next few days."
James chuckled.
"But honestly, I can't believe Slughorn is happy to just hand me Veritaserum without asking questions!" ranted Lily. "We're in the middle of a war! I could easily have been an impostor like him," she said with a nod toward James' clone. "But he didn't ask any questions and just gave me a dangerous and restricted potion!"
"Slughorn has always been like this." said James with amusement. Then, he looked at the stunned duo. "Now, why don't we see who they truly are!"
Lily sighed. "I should never have shown you Scooby-Doo."
James grinned before he used his wand to wake them up. The boy and girl started blinking.
"Who are you?" asked James immediately. As if his voice had been water thrown in their faces, the boy who looked very much like James and the girl with brown, curly hair's eyes widened greatly. They were suddenly wide awake. James' look-alike's face turned white when he looked at him and Lily.
"What the..."
"I repeat," interrupted James. "Who are you?"
"If you are who you are, then we can't tell you." said the girl. The boy nodded at her statement.
"Well... You give us no choice, then." said Lily, showing the vial of Veritaserum in her hand. If possible, their faces turned even more white.
"Y-You can't d-do this!" said the girl. "I-It's illegal!"
"So is posturing as someone else." said James sternly.
"Please don't!" begged the boy. "It's a very, very bad idea!"
"Well, will you tell us your names, then?" he asked. Neither answered. So, James took the vial of Veritaserum.
Both tried to fight him but, eventually, he was able to give them a few drops each. Their eyes suddenly turned glazy, confirming that the potion was working.
"Let's start with you." said Lily to the girl. "What is your full name?"
"Hermione Jean Granger." answered the girl.
"That doesn't sound like a pureblood name." said James. "Maybe she's not a Death Eater... unless she's a half-blood who was accepted in their ranks."
"What about you?" Lily asked to the boy.
The boy tried to fight it. "Ha- Harr- Harry James Potter." he finally answered.
James blinked. "So, he is a Potter, then." Lily muttered. "It certainly explains the appearance."
"I guess so. But, from what branch of the family?" muttered James in turn. "I'll ask for his parents. Maybe it will tell us more about who he is." Turning back toward Harry, he asked "Who are your parents?"
"James Potter and Lily Evans." answered Harry truthfully. Both James and Lily gasped. James almost fell down on his arse in shock.
"James... what if?" Lily gasped with wide eyes before she turned toward Harry. "Harry, what is the date of your birth?"
"31st of July 1980."
"Merlin's beard!" yelled James. "They are time-travellers!"
"He's our son from the future!" gasped Lily. Both she and James looked at each other in shock.
"Our son?" said James.
"We have a son? In the future?" muttered Lily, her eyes still wide-open.
"Wow..." they both exclaimed. "How did you travel back in time?" asked Lily.
"We don't know." answered Hermione.
"You... you don't know?" said James, perplexed.
Lily frowned for a few moments. "What happened before you met us?" she suddenly asked.
Harry answered. "We were coming back from the Slug Club Christmas party when we decided to use a cupboard to snog a bit." he said, making James snort. "Hermione and I had only begun dating a few days earlier but, unfortunately, both of us still had dates for the party so we couldn't just ditch them at the last minute. My date is a good friend of ours so she didn't mind if I spent more time with Hermione than her but Hermione's date was horrible and would keep trying to stop us from being together before trying to drag Hermione everywhere he went as if he was some old rich pureblood and his trophy-wife. Eventually, Hermione snapped and she and I decided to leave. As we were walking back toward Gryffindor tower, we decided we wanted to spend more time together before going to bed so we entered the first broom cupboard we found. As we were doing what teenage couples do, something fell down from a shell and hit us on the head. It shocked us enough that we fell down on the door, pushing it wide open. We laughed at our situation before we raised on our feet and decided to continue our walk toward Gryffindor Tower. We turned a corner and met you."
"Do you know what hit you?"
This time, it was Hermione who answered. "No, but it made the sound of broken glass when it hit the ground. Since we weren't injured by the thing, we didn't think about looking for it."
"Okay, so you might have accidently travelled back in time while snogging in a broom cupboard?" asked James.
"Yes." answered Harry and Hermione. James suddenly started laughing heavily. Even Lily couldn't help herself and joined-in.
"That's bloody hilarious!" gasped James.
"L-Language J-James!" hiccupped Lily while holding her ribs.
James and Lily had just stopped laughing when they suddenly heard the two time-travellers start talking by themselves, which meant that the Veritaserum had worn-off.
"Oh Merlin!" exclaimed Hermione. "They shouldn't know about us! It could cause a paradox!"
"Relax, Hermione!" said Harry. "They can't do anything if they don't know anything about our lives, like what happened in 1981."
"What happened in 1981?" asked Lily right away. Harry groaned.
"I can't believe you just said that!" said Hermione, glaring at her boyfriend.
"I'm sorry?" asked Harry timidly, making James laugh.
"You better be." grumbled Hermione.
"Look, I'm sorry." said Harry. "I'm just kind-of overwhelmed! It's not every day one sees their dead parents alive..." He suddenly stopped, closing his eyes in disbelief at what he had just said. "I shouldn't have said that." he muttered.
"What do you mean, dead parents?" asked a white-faced Lily.
"Is that what happened in 1981?" said James.
Both Harry and Hermione winced, but not before Hermione sent her boyfriend another glare. "We're not going to answer that." said Hermione.
"We can still give you Veritaserum." said Lily.
"You wouldn't give your own son Veritaserum, would you?" asked Harry, sounding like a small boy.
"If it is to get the answers I wanted." said Lily with a smile.
"Jaysus." muttered Harry, glancing at Hermione. "I suppose Remus was right when he said that I had inherited my curiosity from my mother." he said, making Lily smile.
"How did we die?" asked James.
Harry and Hermione glanced at each, as if having a mental conversation. Eventually, Harry shrugged, making Hermione sigh. She nodded, so Harry turned back toward his parents.
"Shortly before my birth in 1980..." And so, Harry began by telling them the prophecy Professor Dumbledore had revealed to him months before. He then went on to describe the attack at Godric's Hollow, which resulted in Harry being made an orphan. Harry's telling made Lily cry, and James took her in his arms to calm her down. Before they realised what they were doing, Harry had told them all about his life at the Dursleys (including parts Hermione didn't know), before he and his girlfriend began recounting their years at Hogwarts. James and Lily were shocked at the tales the two time-travellers were telling. By the time they were done, the ropes conjured by James' incarcerous spells had vanished, allowing Hermione to hold her now crying boyfriend as he told them about Sirius' death.
"Sirius... I can't believe it..." whispered James, who was also being held by his girlfriend.
"What about me?" said a seventeen-years-old Sirius Black, barging in the Head Boy room and ignoring the white-faces on his best friend and his girlfriend. "So, Prongs, how was your date with Lily-Flower?" he asked, grinning. Then, his eyes found Harry and Hermione, who were starring back as if they had seen a ghost.
"Woah!" exclaimed Sirius. "Who's that?" he asked, still grinning cheerfully."
"Merlin..." whispered Harry. Then, more loudly, he said "Hello, Sirius. I'm Harry Potter..."
A/N: Ending is a bit weak but I didn't know where to end the fic. If I continued, it could easily have become a 10k words fic, which wasn't my idea when I wrote this. ;)
