"I know not all that may be coming but be it what it will, I will go to it laughing."
Hogwarts express was moving fast, making its way through the woods and over the moors. Like the train, two 16 year old boys were moving fast, making their way through the train. One had long black hair and aristocratic features. The other had short black hair which were stuck up in all directions. He wore the look of someone well cared for along with glasses.
The train knew its destination well. So did the boys. However, unlike the train, the boys were having trouble finding the target. Well, target for the boys because they were looking for a particular greasy haired slytherin with the intention of celebrating the start of new school year with him. This does not mean that the three of them would celebrate together. Only two will celebrate by pranking the third.
"Where has he gone, that slimy secretive snake?" Long haired one panted as he stopped to take a breath, leaning against the door of a compartment.
"If I knew, would I be here?" The one with short hair countered, "Well, we might as well prank someone else rather than wasting our time." He added as an afterthought.
His companion, however, wasn't listening as he peered through the pane inside the compartment he was leaning against."Oi Prongs! Come here."
Prongs also peeked inside the compartment obeying his friend's wishes.
Inside the compartment were present two figures wearing school robes both sitting opposite to each other next to the window. One was a beautiful brunette with waist length hair and chestnut brown eyes. She appeared to be trying to talk to her companion who was by all means ignoring her, being completely immersed in the book opened in front of him. He had short jet black hair with bangs covering his eyes as his face faced the book.
"Oh My God! Prongs, I think I have got that Alzheimer's disease." The one with long hair gasped dramatically.
"And what in the name of Merlin is zaimer?" Prongs asked him, quite used to his friend's theatrics.
"It's Alzheimer and it's a muggle disease related to memory loss I think." He replied.
"So this is your way of saying that you don't know who these two are. Honestly, Padfoot, grow up." Prongs told him.
"Yeah because starting this year by pranking Snivellus was a very mature idea of yours." Padfoot said rolling his eyes, "But really I don't think I have seen her before." He said eyes flicking towards the brunette.
"I can't say I have either." Prongs said.
"Well, what are we waiting for then?" Padfoot asked and before his friend could answer, he pushed open the compartment door to have a pair of eyes looking up at him. He smiled charmingly at the brunette.
The boy with jet black hair also looked up. He had sharp and delicate facial features with grey eyes and almost a touch of femininity. He went back to reading as if discarding their entrance as irrelevant. He was a nerd for sure.
The brunette was eyeing both of them with polite expectancy.
"Hello! I am Sirius Black and this is James Potter." The long haired one introduced himself and his friend extending his hand, "And you are?"
"Isadora Hale." She told him while shaking his hand.
"You must be new here because surely, I could not have missed noticing this much beauty before." Sirius said putting an appropriate amount of flirt in his words all the while smiling.
She looked flustered and blushed as she replied,"Yes, I am new here. This is my first year here. Not that it is my first year. I mean it is my first year but I am in fifth year and this fifth year is my first year."
"Great! We are also fifth year Gryffindors." Sirius exclaimed.
"So you are a transfer student?" James asked.
"Umm... No, I was home schooled before." She explained.
"Well Isadora, surely you can do better than him." Sirius said motioning towards the jet black haired boy.
"Him?" She asked skeptically, "What! No! It isn't like that. We are not..."
But what they were not had to wait because at that moment another voice was heard which could belong to none other that a certain fiery red haired and green eyed girl.
"Potter! Black! What are you both doing?" She inquired with a frown which disappeared at the sight of other two occupants of the compartment. "Oh! You two must be the new students. Hi! I am Lily Evans, 5th year Gryffindor prefect."
She smiled at them but her expression changed to that of surprise within nano seconds when the jet black haired boy lifted his face to look at the new intruder.
"Lily!" He exclaimed as he closed the book and stood up.
Lily didn't waste a moment before wrapping the boy into a tight hug which lasted a bit too long for James' comfort. He pointedly cleared his throat before he asked, "You two know each other?"
Lily ignored James as she talked to the other person with short black hair, "It has been so long since I last saw you." She eyed him from head to toe as she added, "Oh My! Your hair! How you have changed!"
"You haven't changed much though. Your hair still looks like it's on fire." The jet black haired boy teased her much to James' chagrin. And as if that wasn't enough, Lily's hands were still on his shoulders as she held him.
"I didn't knew you were a witch." He said.
"Well, nor did I at that time." Lily replied giving him a friendly punch on the arm.
If looks could kill that boy would have surely been dead under the glare that James was giving him. Sirius thought. But Alas, that boy was still standing there oblivious to the danger he was under as he listened to Lily ranting. Sirius had to hold James to prevent him from attacking that boy. His friend's hopeless three year old crush on Evans wasn't exactly a secret. The brunette, however, was eyeing the scene with increasing amusement.
"Why are you both still here?" Lily asked turning towards them and raised her eyebrows when she saw James spluttering with rage.
"No reason. We were just leaving." Sirius replied pulling James with him." Well it was nice meeting you Isadora." He added winking at her who looked like she was holding back her laughter with difficulty. About what? Sirius had no idea.
Lily turned towards Isadora as she asked the boy, "So, are you two related?"
The question made both James and Sirius stop at the door listening for the answer.
"Yes. Umm... We are cousins actually." He replied with ghost of a smile on his lips.
"What!" James exclaimed, "You are his cousin?" James asked the brunette skeptically.
"His?" Lily looked perplexed.
Having Evans' attention, James decided to take a shot at it, "Evans, what does he have that I don't? Why can't you be friends with me too." James ranted, "He isn't even that good looking and looks boring and a nerd. His features are delicate and almost feminine. One good bludger would be the end of him."
Sirius expected Evans to hex James or tell him off for being rude to her friend. Hence, he was most surprised when both Evans and Isadora bursted out laughing at James' outburst. Even that black haired boy was smiling.
When she had controlled her laughter, Evans moved forwards as Sirius and James moved out of the compartment. With both her hands on the door, she smirked and leaned forward, "That will be because that not that good looking, boring nerd with delicate and almost feminine features is actually a girl." She said as she closed the compartment door in the face of two bewildered boys.
