She was drowning just as she hoped when she fell into the icy cold water. How long was she imprisoned by those monsters? How long has it been since she felt the sun's light touch her skin? Well it doesn't matter. She ran from them, but knew she couldn't run forever. They'd only come after her and drag her back to that cage. This was better, because this is on her own terms. They can never own her death.

She stared up at the full moon that glowed beautifully through the water, bathing her body in its soft light. She smiled as she grabbed the rosary that floated from her neck, sending a silent prayer to God for letting her see the moon in a beautiful way for her gentle end. Her eyes closed as she awaited for her soul to fall into God's embrace.

"You shouldn't be in this lake young one." A deep warm voice echoed within the water as she felt her body float in the middle of the depths, no longer sinking towards the bottom, but not rising to the surface.

Her eyes opened to see a strange shape of blue light hover above her. She no longer felt the suffocating burn of the water filling her lungs, neither did she feel fear at the light that seemed to surround her.

"An angel?" She spoke, surprised by how clear her voice sounded in the water.

The voice chuckled in fond humor. "No child, far from it. I live here."

"I'm sorry for trespassing. I just didn't know how to do it."

"Do what?"

She smiled sadly, "Die peacefully on my own terms."

"What happened?"

Her tears disappeared into the lake. "I was imprisoned by monsters who feed on my blood. I finally got away from them. But I knew that running doesn't mean true freedom. I don't know what else I can do. I'm alone, and people have forgotten about me."

"I see, so you came here to end your pain."

She nodded at the being surrounding her, though the was cold, whatever was holding her was very warm.

"But you don't want to die."

She closed her eyes, "I don't have any other choice. I'm afraid if I live, they'll find me."

"What if you have a third choice?"

She opened her eyes again to stare at the light in question. "A third choice?"

"Yes. One I feel may benefit us both."

She listened to the mysterious being's offer, her eyes filled with intrigue and hope for a better life than the living hell she was forced into. The deal was tempting, but there was a catch, she had to pay a price, one she never knew possible and sounded unfair to the spirit.

"Are you sure?" She asked the spirit who was offering her the better end of the deal.

"Yes. As long as I'm with you, they can never catch you."

She was silent for a long moment before she extended her hand above her towards the moon. Her eyes filled with determination and certainty.

"I accept."

The light flowed into her. For a moment, she felt fine, then came the most excruciating pain she ever experienced. Her whole body felt like it was turning inside out and reconfiguring into what the spirit needed in order to fulfill their deal. She screamed out into the water as her back arched up in twisted agony. Tears flowed out of her eyes and into the lake. Her body changed, her bone structure became smaller, and her hair became longer. When it finally ended, she float up towards the surface. Her head was bowed as she rose up until her feet were literally on the water. Her clothes felt too big on her, and her hair concealed her eyes and back. Her mouth turned into a frown of confusion when she saw herself in the water's feint reflection. Though her appearance changed drastically, she didn't feel any more different. Water was no longer present on her body or clothes, she was completely dry.

She looked up at the moon, her long hair fell away to reveal one of her eyes as the wind caressed her body. She took that one step on the water and walked back to shore and into the forest. The first thing she needs for herself is a new set of clothes.
