She walks up and down the shore, faintly remembering when she was younger and Charlie would take her fishing here.
The water always looked so furious. Mad enough to drown her. The sky, too.
Maybe that's why she asked to stop coming.
She lifts her head and lets the rain fall on her face. The sky clears up her memory like a towel wiping away the tears that kept images hidden.
Tears.
She used to cry when she was forced to spend her time here. Even as a kid she'd been too reserved to make friends with the twins: Rachel and Rebecca.
So it seemed funny to her now that she'd ended up bonding with Jacob.
"Bella"
Speaking of.
She turns around and sees him standing there. His long hair is tied behind his head. His tan skin drips with the battle scars of the cold, damp weather that Forks is known for.
Cold.
It's been a long time since she felt that. But she still remembers. (God, does she remember).
She remembers her first time coming back to Forks in years and that was when she found him.
Today is the anniversary of when she lost him, too.
"You ok?" Jake asks.
His warm eyes search her face.
She looks up at him and gives him a small smile.
She remembers when it seemed impossible to do that. But somehow, Jacob brought it out of her. Somehow he made her smile. Somehow he made her feel warmth in a place that was incessantly cold.
"I'm fine," She says and isn't surprised that she means it.
She turns to stare back at the shore. She wants to watch the water beat against the line that separates her from the shivering waves.
But she thinks she seems something.
It's been a year since she's had the visions, but sometimes they pop up and she can't tell if they are true or false. When she has these nightmares of him, she breaks out in cold sweats and can't stop shaking.
In those moments it is Jacob's warm arms that rescues her.
As if by instinct- he's there. He wraps his arms around her and pulls her back into reality. He is her life guard not only on this beach but in the word itself.
She shakes her head and the water is clear again. The image-if it was there at all-gone.
She wraps her hands around Jacob's forearms. She is happy to feel his heat.
It has been a year. A lot has changed.
But a thought crosses her mind.
This is what a year looks like.
A year within the sun.
