"Hey! Happy birthday, Quintuplets!"
The Nakano Quintuplets ceased what they were doing. They had stopped in the middle of celebrating their shared birthday upon hearing a cheerful voice calling to them from nearby. All five sisters had no trouble with recognising such a noice - although it was not usually spoken in such a jovial tone.
Standing where they were, the siblings turned to see who had just entered their home - before sharing a gasp at the sight of them.
Futaro was standing in the doorway. He had just entered the Nakano family's sibling quarters, which was decorated with banners, bunting and balloons. The young tutor sent a smile towards his five students - having to tilt sideways to do so, as he was half-hidden behind a tower of brightly-wrapped presents.
"Futaro!" Ichika exclaimed, leading her sisters as they made their way towards the blue-haired young man.
"Hey, Uesugi!" Yotsuba cried in her usual cheerful manner.
"What are you doing here?" Nino asked as she frowned at their tutor suspiciously.
"Isn't it obvious? I know you five are clueless when it comes to schoolwork, but I'd have thought even you lot could figure out why I'm here!"
"And why is that?" Itsuki asked.
Futaro's smile widened as he placed the pile of gifts in his arms down onto the floor. "I came to give you five your birthday presents!"
"Birthday presents?!" Miku's eyes sparkled upon realising their tutor was treating them on their special day. "Oh, you didn't have to do that, Futaro..."
"Sure I did! A birthday only comes once a year - and it's not often five siblings get to share it together!" Futaro began handing out the gifts, one to each sister. "After all I've been through with you guys, it wouldn't be right if I didn't get you anything for your birthday!"
"Wow!" Yotsuba cheered happily. "Thanks, Uesugi!"
"Yeah, you're not so bad after all, Teach!" Ichika added.
Futaro handed the last of the gifts to Nino (who took it from him rather grudgingly), then stood back and watched with a fold of his arms as he waited for the siblings to open their gifts.
For a moment, the five sisters just stood there, each holding their own respective present. They silently observed to boxes they were holding, wrapped in colourful paper and tied with golden ribbon. None of them had any idea what could be inside - given to them by their home tutor.
What could Futaro have given me? Ichika wondered. Maybe he bought me a new duvet and pillow! My bed could really to with a touch-up so I can get even more hours of sleep when I'm resting after my acting gigs!
Should I be worried what this jerk has given me? Nino thought, looking distrustingly at her own gift. I'm not convinced he has any taste in good gifts. On the other hand, he knows I've been running out of make-up this week... Maybe I can rely on him to give me a quality set.
Futaro must have given me some books on the Warlords, Miku told herself mentally. He knows just how passionate I am on the history of the Senguko Period. Maybe he also threw in a recipe book as well - as I know how much he loves my cooking! Perhaps there's some more meals he wants me to grill up for him!
A present from Uesugi has gotta be the best present ever! Yotsuba thought, extremely sure her prediction would be correct. He's a super smart guy, so he'll know what to get me! Maybe he decided to buy me some sports kits so I can make it to all of the school teams!
I never thought I'd get a birthday gift from Uesugi of all people, Itsuki wondered. But I guess it makes sense after all we've gone through with him. Guess I'll have to make sure to save room when I'm eating our birthday cake and party food! Don't want this sweet treat he's surely gotten me to go to waste!
"Well?" Futaro tapped his foot. "Aren't you guys gonna open your gifts instead of just look at them?"
The Quintuplets gazed up at their tutor to nod towards him. Then they exchanged smiles with one another, planning to carry out a birthday tradition of theirs - which was to unwrap their respective presents at the same time.
"Five..." Itsuki began.
"Four..." Yotsuba continued.
"Three..." Miku added.
"Two..." Nino put in.
"One!" Ichika cried.
The siblings began to open their corresponding gifts. They untied the ribbons and tested the wrapping paper away from the boxes. All five of them were keen to find out what had been given to them on their shared special day - by none other than their tutor.
As he watched them open their parcels, Futaro flashed a wide grin. He peered closer as they threw open the lids of the boxes, eager to see their reactions to what he'd gifted to them on their birthday.
"STUDYING BOOKS?!"
The Quintuplets cried out together upon seeing what the scholastic young man had given to them for their special occasion. The disappointment in their tones was identical to the dismay on their faces as they held up the educational books which they'd found in the gift boxes. None of the five were the least bit impressed by Futaro's presents to them.
"That's right! It's just what you five need! I can think of no better birthday gift for you lot!" The blue-haired young man clapped his hands together. "Now let's get those new books of yours cracked open! It's time to start studying, girls!"
The Nakano Quintuplets lifted their disappointed gazes towards their pompous tutor. They couldn't believe the nerve of him. Not only had he bought them studying books for their birthday - but he actually wanted them to spend their birthday doing schoolwork.
Having no intention of wasting their shared special day, the five sisters threw their books with full force towards Futaro.
"Hey!" Futaro cried out, having to move quickly on his feat to avoid getting hit by the flying books. He manages to get out of the way of four of them - but was struck hard on the head by the fifth. He was thrown clear off his feet, crashing down onto the apartment floor.
"C'mon!" Ichika urged her siblings. "Let's get outta here before he has us in his clutches."
The Quintuplets laughed as they ran for the door of their apartment.
"Hey! Futaro called after them, laying where he had landed on the floor. "Where are you going? Get back here! You have studying to do!"
"You don't expect us to study on our birthday?!" Yotsuba yelled back to the fallen tutor. "Do you, Uesugi?!"
"Nah, we're gonna go out and party!" Miku said.
"Oh yeah! Let's make sure we bring Raiha along with us!" Itsuki suggested excitedly. "She'd be so great to have with us!"
"You're taking Raiha along for your party?!" Futaro exclaimed, surprised to hear they wanted his cheerful little sister to join in their celebrations. "What about me?!"
"Forget it, jerk!" Nino sneered. "There's no way you're invited to our birthday party!"
The happy cries and laughter from the Nakano siblings continued to fill the air as they made their hasty exit from their home. Futaro remained behind. He listened to the sound of their giggles as they ran away from where they had left him all alone.
Still laying on the apartment floor, the grumpy tutor picked up the books which his students had used to knock him off his feet. He frowned down at them as he let off a deep, irate sigh.
"Somehow... I don't think those five appreciated my birthday gifts to them..." he murmured bitterly to himself. "Can't say I'm surprised..."
The end.
