This entire thing was meant to be a oneshot, but its length ended up getting it split into a multichap. As the tags say, this isn't canon compliant with season 3. However, it does incorporate some elements of it, from parts of Yugo's characterization, to the tension (and lack of communication) between him and Adamaï, and minor things like Armand's (wife by the time of OVAs but girlfriend here) Aurora, but diverges from canon far too much to be compliant with that season.
It was intended to just be a character study of Yugo's thoughts on having to lock Qilby up again at the end of season 2, but ended up going over the worldbuilding of a post season 2 world and an exploration of Yugo and Adamaï really just needing to have some talks.

None of this is beta read, so I apologize for the inevitable mistakes. I do hope anyone who's here enjoys!

For the prologue here, there's a reference to a couple lines from season 3 episode 3.
The entire 'feel better for it' line referenced (a lot) is from Balthazar in season 2.

Even as the Brotherhood of Tofu finished their adventures, Yugo saw its members as often as he could. Between being the representative of the Eliatrope people and trying to catch up lost time with his father in the inn, there was not as much time as he could have liked. Still, he managed to run off for visits enough that Adamaï was starting to make comments about it when he'd return.

At current, he was visiting Sadida. In defense from getting any snide remarks on being left behind from fun from his brother, Yugo was heading there primarily for some talks about the state of the Eliatrope Kingdom (or current lack of, as, despite support from King Oakhart Sheran Sharm and Master Joris of Bonta among some other allies, the months had passed without actually getting the Eliatropes a place to live in the World of Twelve yet). As beautiful as that journey was and as exciting as it was to know he was going to get to visit Amalia, Yugo was distracted from the trip. There'd been another nightmare that night. Another dream mixed with memories that tugged away at his self confidence and whispered of all he'd done that had caused pain, whether through not doing enough to help or through having done too much.

The change in scenery didn't help make the memories of those whispers go away. Accusations that he was capable of anything; that he would- that he had- committed heinous acts. Necessary acts, necessary, the sort of actions he felt none the better for afterwards no matter if they saved the world...but the nightmares wouldn't listen to that. Their accusations paid no heed to how little pleasure he gained from what he'd had to do.

I died because of you

I'm locked in a world of nothing because of you

It wasn't new. He'd had them before. He'd thought of them before. But he remembered what he had to, what Baltazhar and Phaeris had said to him. They supported how he'd done as he had in a past life, but they didn't expect him to feel better for it. And he hadn't then in that immediate aftermath.

If the occasional dream meant anything, it was that he still did not.
