He'd finished packing up the last of the salvageable rations when his commlink crackled to life with a rather insistent "General we have a situation down here."
"On my way Danvers." He answers passing off the pack to Leo's waiting hand. The trio had found one of the last remaining safe houses formerly belonging to Dark Arrow and his New Reich cronies. This one must have been meant only for Queen and his bride given how many times the three freedom fighters had spotted the crest of the now-dead Over Girl burning into the walls.
"I found a lab of some kind. Most of the pods were knocked out beforehand most likely from one of our deeper penetrating emps or something." Alex explains after Winn had asked for more information about what he was walking into. "but I found one still active."
"Well since you're the one that upgraded our ground attacks, I'd say nice job on that front Lex." Leo joins in and the other two can hear his grin in his voice. Going by the rustling both could also guess Leo was hunting in the confiscated assortment of liquor they'd packed.
"Shut up Terrill."
"You first Elseworld." Leo fires back
"Soldiers." Winn cuts in before the two could continue their teasing banter. It still surprised him just how quickly the pair had seemed to bond after Winn had grudgingly allowed Danvers to join their ranks. Even Winn himself found he was warming to the newest doppelganger they'd crossed paths with since somehow surviving the red wave that should have destroyed their world. "and Lexie do we know what's even inside this pod you found?" he questions getting them back to the matter at hand already feeling a migraine behind his eyes. His hand twitched toward his weapon at the slightest sound as he made his way deeper into the underground lab Alex was directing him toward.
"Negative but whatever it is has a steady heart rate." His Second Lieutenant answers in her more doctoral tone.
"Fun." Winn sighs jogging down the last flight of stairs.
"Oh, my Rao." Alex gasps triggering Winn's hand to close even tighter around the hilt of his weapon missing the whispered "It's her." passed the blood in his ears as he charged down the zigzag maze of hallways while nothing but curses and alarms sound over the coms. Apparently, she'd managed to unlock whatever catch was holding the pod closed but had inadvertently triggered some other security safeguard.
"Take off your jacket." Alex orders as soon as she sees him. "I'm not leaving her here, but I can't find anything long enough to cover her properly." she adds at his puzzled expression while Alex's gaze ever once wavers from the monitor beside the only active-looking pod in the room.
His curiosity peaked Winn's gaze immediately drops to get a glimpse of whatever or more apparent whoever Alex was working so hard to bring out of stasis. "Hey. She may be a clone but at least give her some dignity." The medically trained woman scolds before Winn's gaze could register more than what he could see or rather couldn't see in the clearing haze of the crio steam she wasn't wearing a single stitch of clothes. "Jacket off now."
The garment was off and draped over the woman without a word while Winn's head drops in quiet shame.
A strong hand gripped his wrist when he started to pull his hand back as untrusting blue eyes snap open. "Wait she's speaking Russian why is she speaking Russian?" Winn asks talking over a now babbling blonde covered only by his surrendered jacket as she sits up as much as her still thawing body would allow while Alex tries her best to calm the newly awakened woman.
He studies her face in greater detail now noting every major and minor detail that sets this woman apart from her darker twisted original. It's much softer than the one he'd glimpsed more than a few times in his role as leader of the freedom fighters, more open despite the mistrust coloring her narrowed eyes as her gaze flickered between Winn and Alex her grip never once wavering from its hold at the General's wrist. Despite the cold of her fingers, Winn wasn't in any hurry for her to let go.
"Seems the failsafe that kept her pod active until now was damaged and apparently when it restarted itself the internal dialect inhibiter was changed from German to Russian." Alex diagnosis after a few stokes of computer keys rechecking her informational downloads were still running smooth.
She had yet to pick up on the flickering wave of emotions passing one after another over the General's face the longer he stared into those hypnotizing blue eyes.
What the hell was happening to him?
Lucky for all three Leo joins them with his normal cool smile and his apparent near-perfect knowledge of different dialects.
"Seems our little LL here has taken quiet the linking to you General or is her grip because you tried to touch before earning the proper consent after seeing her oh what's the phrase these days?" he glances over at Alex with a raised eyebrow "Oh yes birthday suite.'
"Enough with the chitchat. Let's get out of here already." Winn orders while Alex's despite the rather intimidating glare she was sending Leo tries her best to turn her low chuckle into a convincing enough cough. "but Leo mind asking her if she would be alright with me carrying her? Her legs may have atrophy or something and I don't want her slowing us down." Leo's smile got if possible, even more, smug as he translated the question.
Winn doesn't meet the other man's gaze his own worry for this Over Girl clone continued to quietly unnerve him as the blonde nodes with a curious sounding 'Da' in consent even going so far as to hold out her arms to him like a small child wanting to be held by a parent.
She's lighter than he'd expected but every bit as toned and lethal as her predecessor as her arms snaked around his neck whilst his own hooked under her knees and slid around her back in support as he lifted her from the pod. "And one of you at least grab her a blanket on the way out? It's going to be a long drive and it's colder than normal tonight." he feels more than sees her burrowing into the warmth of his body as he speaks. Her eyes already sliding closed, and he could tell just by her breath against the hollow of his throat that she'd fallen asleep before they'd reached the truck.
