It's Time to Go

Experiment 2502.

Experiment 5557.

They were just numbers in the system, no names, and no home to call their own. They were children, and yet they were not human. They were cogs in the machine, all for Kanto.

Brother remembered seeing the countless bodies underneath him, the booming voice of the Headmaster in his ears; he was the only one who still stood.

Sister accepted her fate as a gift to uphold Kansai, but then she wept and yelled for anyone to help her. To help her Brother, she wished for them both to be free.

Oh, how the adults gazed down upon the children, narrowed eyes of scorn, full of pity.

At such a great cost, from those who helped them survive, Brother and Sister roamed the outside world, without targets on their backs.

They felt free walking amongst the flowers in the cusp of winter, a soft sunlight just beyond the horizon.

Holding each other's hands, the children basked in the cold warmth of the sun.

They were not numbers, they were not machines; they were human.

They were free.
