Hello, I was just browsing through Rwby stories looking for some Dove fics when I noticed one called Shuffled Remnant. It hasn't been updated in a long time but it really made my gears turn so I wanted to try something like this out. I'm going to cut this off at Volume 8-9 since at this time that was where RWBY had finished airing. Well... here it goes!
A brick-red haired girl waltzed into the store late at night, "From Dust Till Dawn" the woman scowled as she motioned for the few figures following her to spread out.
"Hard to find a place open this late at night" the woman comments to the shopkeeper at the counter. The bespectacled woman raised an eyebrow before replying to the person in front of her "Need to make ends meet simple as that."
"Its a shame that because of that you're getting robbed" the brick-haired woman sneered and then turned to the people behind her. "Get the dust and get out of here."
The henchmen spread out, grabbing vials and crystals of dust and putting them into a bag, Octavia eyed the woman before her as she backed away, before opening the case in front of her and putting the dust crystals on the counter.
"That's more like it" A henchman moved forward to take her place and the woman looked around, her kris in hand ready at any moment.
It wasn't that long before a resonating crash echoed within the store as a henchman near the back of the store flew through the window and alarms started blaring.
"For fuck sakes, go deal with it!" the red-haired woman growled and grabbed the bags of dust and headed out. As she left the store two more bodies flew past her as a figure stepped out after them.
"Worth every penny... so who am I facing against?" the woman turns to see a boy, brown hair with brown armor, eyes seemingly shut facing toward her.
"Dove Bronzewing at your service. As for you, may I ask why you are robbing this store so late at night?"
"Because I, Octavia Embers, am a crook. Octavia slashes with her kris and gouts of flames flew from the blades toward Dove who easily blocked the attack with his blade. Dove rushed forward as Octavia used the wall as a boost to climb onto the roof as a bullhead approached.
"Toodles!" Octavia called.
"Go on ahead and chase her, that's my stock she stole from me!" the bespectacled woman exclaimed from back within the store.
"On it!" Dove took off after Octavia, reaching the roof as the bullhead hovered over the edge of the building, Octavia took one look back and sighed. "Persistent are you."
"I won't let you get away!" Dove yelled at the retreating criminal.
"Oh yeah, you and what army!" Octavia taunted.
A figure dressed in orange dropped from seemingly out of nowhere, holding his arms to the side as he readied into a combat stance, the blades gleamed in the moonlight.
"Oh... that army, Get us out of here!" Octavia spluttered and took a step onto the bullhead as the new huntsman rushed forward.
The huntsman fired a few shots from his weapon but it proved futile as the bullhead continued flying into the night sky.
A voice echoed from within Dove's head. "Troublesome." was all he heard as the area lit up with flashing lights and police sirens.
The door closed as Dove sat within the police station as the huntsman, who he now knows as Fox Alistair, leaned against the wall. The dim light seemed to shine exclusively on the table, making it quite hard to see Fox who seemed to be trying to melt into the darkness of the room.
"Got any idea what kind of trouble you caused others. Sure it was a robbery but from eye-witness accounts the property damage was your own fault." Fox lectured the child in front of him.
"I didn't meant to throw him that hard, I planned for him to only go so far as to knock his ally down. Who knew that the bag in his hand had wind dust and it would propel him out of the window!" Dove argued but Fox just shook his head in disappointment.
"Despite being a huntsman in training, who taught you to beat people up like that." Fox asked.
"My aunt Fria did."
"I know her as a person, and she wouldn't condone such behavior, you will think about the consequences of your actions young man." Fox glowered and turned as the door opened to a new figure stepping forward.
Dark skin, green hair and a white coat, the man sat down in front of Dove and placed a tray of cookies. "Do you know who I am?" He simply asked.
Dove could only stare at the person before him. "Headmaster Ayana." Dove courteously bowed his head a little to show some respect.
Fox scoffed at the display "At least she taught you some manners."
Headmaster Sage Ayana just smirked at Fox's ire and motioned for the plate of cookies. "Now now Fox, this young man just foiled a robbery from the illusive Octavia Embers. Why not calm down a little and have a cookie."
Fox grumbled under his breathe but remained by the wall after snagging a cookie from the table.
"Now then, It is nice to meet you Mr. Dove Arc, as you have mentioned I am indeed Headmaster Sage Ayana. Do you know why you are here before me today?"
"I stopped a robbery." Dove sat upright, his eyes shining with anticipation.
"That you did, I wish to congratulate you for taking the step to stop a criminal whereas most would simply stand by since the robber is not Grimm."
"My mom has taught me that we should do all we can to help those in need."
"She would advocate such policies, she dislikes passiveness after all." Headmaster Ayana chuckles to himself, Fox rolls his eyes as he continues to munch on the cookies. "And thankfully she had gotten out of there before they went full militant.
"From what my sister told me they went full militant a few years back, Mom would have loved being there but she left when Mom died." Dove murmured.
"Someone has to take care of brats like the lot of you, else who knows what might have happened today." Fox growled from the corner and Headmaster Ayana sighed.
"Looks like we'll be cutting this meeting short for the wellbeing of Mr. Alistair and yourself, see you at Beacon Mr. Arc."
Dove bowed slightly as he watched the two leave and a person, tan with grey eyes and what seemed to be large freckles on her face, walked in shortly after. She did not look happy.
"Hey mom!" Dove called out "I hope you didn't have to wait long, but I foiled a robbery!"
"Good on you sweetie but I'm not in the mood. I got a call earlier about how my stick-up-her-ass daughter was in a bar fight and imagine my surprise to see you being put into a room. I know I advocate for action but to do so right before you head to Beacon..."
Dove moved to respond to his disappointed mother when a voice called from the other room. "Ms. Amiltola, we're finished with the paperwork you can take them both back home now."
"Thank you officer." She grimaced and latched onto Dove's arm and pulled him from the room.
Waiting outside was a dark-skinned girl stood against the wall a watch in hand keeping track of the time going by.
"Hello brother." the girl greeted and Dove raised his hand with a wave. "Ciel sis, how are you."
"Miffed that my mission has failed but otherwise unharmed. Your status?" Ciel replied and Dove smirked and spoke aloud "I feel good."
The simple sentence was enough to convey what he wanted to say, but another popped into his head almost immediately. "So... why did you get into a bar fight?"
Now you may be wondering "Dove is the MC for this too?". The story to that is that I randomized three lists of potential swaps, I looked at each and chose the one that seemed the most fun to write. In the other two timelines we had Shay D Mann or Cordovin as Ruby . In the Shay timeline we had Jaune as himself again, good on Jaune to stick to being himself once more but I'd rather do a homage to the original and keep Dove the Protag, since him being tagged was a big reason on how I found the fic.
On another note, Some of you may be wondering why last names are also being changed around. I thought it would be fun thing to do and it would also spice up some team names like instead of Dove Bronzewing we get Dove Arc, so for the team names instead of DB I get to work with DA. It definitely made some team names easier... while making some impossible to spin.
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk. Lets hope that the sin of sloth doesn't stop me from completing this one like it did the original. I did attempt to get permission to see if its okay to rewrite this but after weeks of no response I'm just gonna go ahead and do it and take it down if they do have a problem with it.
