A/N: Woke up with this idea and it emotionally destroyed me. So here you go. If you like it, let me know and I'll add a second chapter.
"Are you gonna do it? If he asks?" Amanda looked at Olivia as she picked up the earrings and started to put them on.
"If who asks what?" The captain said while checking her lipstick in the mirror.
"Elliot, if he asks you to dance."
Olivia scoffed. "Elliot doesn't dance. And he's not gonna ask." She struggled to get her own earrings on and as much as she wanted to, she couldn't ignore the slight tremble in her hands.
"People change." The blonde detective said as she took charge of the uncooperative earrings between Olivia's fingers. "You're nervous." Her voice was gentle, but there was a hint of playfulness in her eyes and the brunette didn't know if she should call her out on it or if she secretly enjoyed it.
She opted for a simple "shut up."
As she put on her high heels, the final touch to her outfit, those same playful eyes glanced over at her. "You looking like that? He's gonna ask."
He looked good. Damn good. She couldn't deny that, as much as she wanted to. And he looked better than a couple of months ago, less twitchy and nervous. More at ease.
Why does his calm make my palms sweat?
It should've been easier to breathe now. His sudden return wasn't as fresh, they had cracked and closed the case against Richard Wheatley, and Elliot had taken time off to deal with the aftermath.
Things felt more... normal? As normal as things could get with Elliot back in her life.
Even after ten years, Olivia remembered how to hide the effect he had on her. Of course she remembered, she had almost thirteen years of practice. It was human nature by now.
She managed to shift her focus for the time being. She wasn't here for him. She was here for Fin and Phoebe.
Still, she couldn't help but to lock eyes with him for just a few seconds when she finished her speech.
"Sometimes we have to wait a long time, longer than most, to find the person we were meant to spend the rest of our lives with. Instead of dwelling on what could've been if you had found that person sooner, cherish every single moment you now get. Never let that go."
She raised her glass in the direction of her friends.
"Fin, Phoebe, I am so happy you don't have to wait anymore, and looking at you today, my heart is full. Congratulations."
She was leaning against the bar, watching Munch who had surprised everyone with his return, spin Amanda around on the dance floor.
It was weird. Seeing the people she loved so much being so happy, after the year they've had. How could her heart be so full and so broken at the same time?
A lump was forming in her throat and she put the glass of scotch to her lips, willing herself to swallow the lump away before it threatened to choke her.
And then, he was standing next to her. So close that she could feel the heat coming from his body.
"Can you believe it?" She said when the silence between them was becoming as suffocating as the lump in her throat she had just barely managed to get rid of.
"What? Munch's dance moves or Fin getting married?"
She snickered. "Both."
The silence, except for the music, was back and Olivia felt her hands start to fidget. She grabbed the glass and clung to it like it was the only thing keeping her from falling to the ground.
Speaking of falling to the ground.
"Dance?"
Fuck you, Rollins. Always right when I need you to be wrong.
"Are you serious right now?" She turned to look at him, her eyes a little glossy and darker than usual.
"I am." And without warning he took the glass from her hands and placed it on the bar behind her.
And then his hand found hers.
Elliot's hand holding mine.
She kept her eyes locked on his back as he guided them to the middle of the dance floor. When he turned around to face her, she made a mental note to see her doctor soon for her annual checkup. Because surely, her pounding heart couldn't take much more.
There was a change in the music then and she wanted to cry and laugh at the same time when she recognized the song.
He looked as stoic as ever.
That smug son of a bitch.
Everybody loves the things you do
From the way you talk
To the way you move
Everybody here is watching you
'Cause you feel like home
You're like a dream come true
He smiled at her, and looking more closely she could've sworn she saw a hint of tears in his eyes.
Maybe not as smug after all.
But if by chance you're here alone
Can I have a moment?
Before I go?
'Cause I've been by myself all night long
Hoping you're someone I used to know
Olivia had her fair share of pet peeves. One being how in movies the world would dissolve around a couple when they looked at each other, danced or... kissed.
But as she caught herself staring at his lips, that's exactly what happened.
You look like a movie
You sound like a song
My God this reminds me, of when we were young
Just them. No one else.
Let me photograph you in this light
In case it is the last time
That we might be exactly like we were
Before we realized
We were scared of getting old
It made us restless
It was just like a movie
It was just like a song
"You're crying."
"I know."
I was so scared to face my fears
Nobody told me that you'd be here
And I'd swear you moved overseas
That's what you said, when you left me
"Are you ok?"
"No."
You still look like a movie
You still sound like a song
My God, this reminds me, of when we were young
"Talk to me."
Let me photograph you in this light
In case it is the last time
That we might be exactly like we were
Before we realized
"I..."
We were sad of getting old
It made us restless
It was just like a movie
It was just like a song
"Liv..."
When we were young
When we were young
When we were young
When we were young
"El..."
It's hard to win me back
Everything just takes me back
To when you were there
To when you were there
"I meant what I said."
And a part of me keeps holding on
Just in case it hasn't gone
I guess I still care
Do you still care?
"What?"
It was just like a movie
It was just like a song
My God, this reminds me
Of when we were young
"I love you."
When we were young
When we were young
When we were young
When we were young
"El… Kiss me."
Let me photograph you in this light
In case it is the last time
That we might be exactly like we were
Before we realized
We were sad of getting old
It made us restless
Oh I'm so mad I'm getting old
It makes me reckless
"I love you, too."
It was just like a movie
It was just like a song
When we were young
A/N: I am not ok. Add a second chapter?
