An American Werewolf in U.A. Bonus Chapters
Author's Note: The following stories are sort of like 'deleted scenes' from my previous fanfic, 'An American Werewolf in U.A." I didn't write these in the actual story because they had little relevance to the main story and felt like filler. If you liked 'An American Werewolf in U.A.' please enjoy these.
Chapter 1: Being a Mom
Kayama Nemuri, aka The Eighteen Plus Only Heroine, Midnight, was at one of her favorite bars. Her coworker, Aizawa Shota, was drinking with her. She was unusually quiet and sullen, it had only been two weeks since she had adopted her biological daughter, Marie Freeman and Marie's half-brother, Joseph Jerome Freeman Jr, aka Joey. This was the first time since then that she had gone out. She was unusually quiet and contemplative today. "Tough day with the kids?" Aizawa finally asked before taking a sip of his Jack and Ginger cocktail. "I'm just…it's tougher than I thought it would be. I admit that I used to think that I'd be the 'fun mom'. But I've mostly been focused on making sure they get to their schools, get their lessons done, help teach Japanese to Joey… Helping Marie adjust to her blindness is harder than I thought it would be. I almost wish she would give up on U.A.," Nemuri admitted.
Aizawa nodded, "She won't give up though. She has too much of you in her to do that. And, as for Joey, Japanese is a difficult language for native English speakers, and vice-versa." Nemuri took a long gulp from her cocktail, a double Long Island Iced Tea, and said, "It's not his lessons. It's just…he's always comparing me to his Mother, Mysa-san. I can't cook as well as her, I can't play with him like she could, I just can't seem to measure up to her, in anything." Aizawa said, "You need to remember, he lost both of his parents, and he's only eight years old. He's still coping with that. He's been taking far away from his home, he has to learn a whole new language and way of life, and he's struggling. I'd say that considering you're raising two kids by yourself now that you're doing a pretty good job."
Nemuri finished her cocktail and Aizawa asked, "Why are you trying so hard with him anyway?" Nemuri took a moment to collect her thoughts before she answered, "Do you know the difference between a 'Mother' and a 'Mom'?" Aizawa was surprised at this as she used the English words and took a sip of his Jack and Ginger before answering, "Isn't 'Mom' just an informal version of 'Mother'?" Nemuri shook her head, "It is, but it is also a world of difference. A Mother may also be your 'Mom', but not always. A Mother only gives birth to a child, but a Mom takes care of them, gives them her love, raises them as best she can, tries to make sure that they will be ready for the world when they eventually leave her.
"I see that for Marie, Mysa-san will always be her 'Mom'. Everything she knows about being a woman, and a good person, is thanks to Mysa-san and Joseph-kun. No matter what I do, I only have a few years with Marie, and then she'll be gone again, being her own woman. Marie tries to hide it to spare my feelings, but I can tell that Mysa-san was just as precious to her as Joseph-kun. For Marie, Mysa-san will always be her 'Mom' first. I feel like I owe Mysa-san for raising my daughter so well. All I can do is try to raise her child as well as she raised mine." Aizawa nodded at this, "That feeling is called 'On', one of the old Pillars of Moral Character, according to my grandparents. It means to always repay your debts, especially debts of honor." The Underground Hero snorted and smirked a little at his coworker, "I never imagined you would ever live by such an old moral code."
"Maybe Motherhood is making me older," Nemuri responded as they left the bar and hailed different cabs to take them to their homes.
