Michelle "MJ" Jones Parker's' perspective:

MJ was coming home from her acting class. It was only a few days from the second anniversary of the day she had helped Peter Parker when the bite from a radioactive spider nearly killed him. It would have if MJ had not intervened. But survival had its gifts in the form of Spider-Powers.

So MJ that this occasion was something to celebrate. So when Peter, alias Spider-Man came home and changed to street clothes, MJ asked, "We're nearing the second anniversary of the day I befriended you."

"And you want to celebrate it?" asked Peter.

MJ nodded with a smile.

"Wouldn't you rather celebrate our wedding?" asked Peter. "Because that anniversary's not for a long time."

"I'd rather celebrate the anniversary of our relationship," said MJ. "Because that's connected to Spider-Man as well as Peter Parker."

"OK," said Peter.

"You agree?" asked MJ.

"Not really," Peter grinned in a snarky way. "But I learned some time ago not to argue with you if I can avoid it. I survived Doctor Octopus, Venom and all the others, but who can't I take? You in a battle of wills."

"C'mere," MJ opened her arms. She and Peter hugged.

Kraven the Hunter's perspective:

Sergei Kravinoff was very upset with Spider-Man to say the least. While he had recently managed parole, his problem had been far from over.

For starters, spending a year in prison had tainted Kraven's once-peerless reputation in the hunting community. On top of that, Kathy Potters, the woman who had paid Kraven to deliver The Amazing Spider-Man to her alive, had made good on her threat to sue should Kraven fail. The result was his savings being all but wiped out. On top of that, his wife, Sasha, had taken their daughter and left him. Mostly because he resorted to the attempted murder of Spider-Man when legal hunting became easy and boring to Kraven. His tight financial situation was not helpful.

But all this was in the past. Kraven would have revenge on The Wall-Crawler and restore both his reputation and with the reward money offered by The Kingpin, his personal fortune. After that, Sasha would surely come crawling back to a once again incredibly successful Kraven.

But Kraven remained as obsessed with hunting as ever. Spider-Man was the ultimate beast and Kraven was determined to bag him.

Spider-Man's perspective:

Spider-Man was finishing up his patrol for the late afternoon and evening. He was certain that he had heard a burglar alarm in the distance. It was probably too late to do much about it, but he could try.

Surprisingly, Spidey caught a glimpse of a remarkably fast car racing away from the building that the alarm was coming from. He pursued. This seemed too easy. The thieves had plenty of time to escape before he had arrived. Sure enough, his Spider-Sense began tingling an instant before three men in the car leaned out of their windows and aimed pistols at him.

"Don't want friends, do you?" Spider-Man shouted to be heard from above. At the same time, he was twisting around to dodge several bullets. The car pulled far ahead as a result. As he cast another web line and swung on it, The Web-Slinger snapped his fingers in frustration. But although his prey could have escaped, they remained just fast enough to be followed. This made no sense. If you could escape a superhero, why not do it? There was clearly more to this than a robbery.

The chase led Spider-Man into a park. This gave the thieves an advantage. For the trees had to moved around. While Spidey did this, all four of his enemies were taking aim under cover. His Spider-Speed and Spider-Sense would be tested.

But although there were a few close shaves, Spider-Man dodged until every gun had clicked. The thieves tried to run. Spider-Man dropped on and punched or kicked them out, one at a time. On occasion, he had been reminded that even non-powered opponents were not necessarily to be underestimated, but it was over.

Scratch that. Spider-Sense says it's just begun. And the attack's coming from above. Better stay on the ground until I spot him to make sure he doesn't get a close shot.

Spider-Man dodged a hunting arrow as he started moving. This reeked of Kraven the Hunter. He had been released not long before and this fit his style. Moreover, since the Spider-Sense could not get a fix on where up above the assassin was, he must have been hopping from tree to tree. Only one with Kraven's superhuman speed and agility could do that.

After Kraven had missed with his fourth arrow, Spidey said, "You're a more obsessed hunter than the Belmonts. Don't play video games, do you? Recognize the Robertsons?"

Because the Spider-Sense was busy dodging arrows, it did not warn The Web-Slinger of a bear trap until too late to avoid stepping into it. Without his Spider-Strength, he would have been a sitting duck. He was still slowing down; not good.

Spider-Man quickly got the bear trap off his right foot. But not quickly enough for he felt a sharp pain in his back. Spidey thought it hurt worse than it was. Upon discovering that it was a dart, he changed his mind. He needed to get out of his attacker's sight fast, so he immediately took to the air! He took an arrow to the back just before he began web swinging. and grunted in pain as he web swung hard and fast to escape Kraven or whoever it was in hiding.

Still, Spider-Man managed to swing a distance through the park without being hit again. In fact, his Spider-Sense stopped tingling after awhile. He must have lost Kraven. Spidey stuck to a tree so he could finally get the arrow out of his back. The blood on the arrowhead and his right foot revealed how close a call this had been.

But Spider-Man's troubles were far from over. Kraven was the best hunter in the world! And the woods were his domain. Spider-Man was not escaping home to fight another day. He had to find Kraven and fight with his carved-up body. Also, the effects of the drug-tipped dart were being felt. It looked like Spider-Man was going to find out just how much stronger than a normal man he was.

And then it hit Spider-Man. The anniversary he and MJ were supposed to celebrate was that very night. He gulped. With how late he was going to be, MJ was not going to be happy. Spidey wondered who he was more worried about - Kraven or MJ.

Kraven's perspective:

Kraven cursed in isiZulu. He had come so close! Bear trap, arrow in the back, and drug-tipped dart. If only he could have afforded a sniper rifle, this would be over.

Kraven returned to his campsite and began looking around with his binoculars.

You cannot escape me, American! I am a master hunter. And time is not on your side. You can run from me, but not pain and sedation.

MJ's perspective:

MJ was upset. Peter had promised to be home for their anniversary. Where was he?

MJ turned on her television set. According to the news, Spider-Man had last been spotted chasing some two-bit armed robbers into a park. Maybe he had been led into a trap by one of the super-criminals of New York City. Maybe he had forgotten the anniversary or gotten cold feet at how seriously MJ took their marriage.

MJ could not say that she liked any of these possibilities. Either Peter's life was in danger or he had chosen this moment to be a forgetful husband.

This made MJ chuckle. She could not believe she found herself hoping that her own husband had committed a divorceable offense.

Spider-Man's perspective:

Spider-Man saw Kraven camping. While the Spider-Sense was tingling, he seemed unarmed. So even if he was aware of Spider-Man's presence, Kraven the Hunter was vulnerable. Spider-Man dove.

Kraven drew the net gun he had hidden in his vest and fired it at Spidey. The costumed hero fell to the ground, trapped. He ripped free just in time to avoid a bullet with the help of his Spider-Sense.

The Web-Slinger began hopping from side to side to avoid bullets. Eventually, the rifle clicked. Spider-Man dove again. This time he managed to tackle Kraven and rain four punches down on his face.

Spider-Sense again! Spider-Man's right hand caught the wrist of Kraven's left just in time to keep a dagger from thrusting into his chest. Spidey's left hand resumed hammering Kraven. After four more punches, he was out cold.

Got him! Now to string him up with webbing and get the police to pick him up. Then I've gotta get MJ to help with my injuries. Not before begging for forgiveness on account of missing our anniversary.

Peter Parker's perspective:

Back in normal clothes, Peter returned home. "Hey, MJ." MJ was not happy.

"You're over two hours late," frowned MJ. "On the anniversary we discussed."

"I'm sorry," Peter apologized.

"'Sorry' doesn't make you on time, does it?" asked MJ.

"W-well," Peter grew nervous, "I went after a super-criminal. Took longer than I expected."

"That's different," MJ softened her tone only a little. "Fine. I won't give you shit. In fact, I'll help you because you're clearly hurt. But late at night or not, the anniversary goes on."

"Despite my injuries?" asked Peter.

"Can you walk?" said MJ.

"Yeah," said Peter.

"Then we celebrate," said MJ.

"All right," Peter gave in. If the world knew that Spider-Man doesn't wear the pants in his own family...
