A Sonically Talk

[ST]

Knothole City, Great Forest, Kingdom of Acorn, Northamer, Planet Mobius, 3237 P.X.E.

Although offput by his fiancée's request to stay off the frontlines in the Second Robotnik War, and even more so when she sounded defensive about it, Sonic the Hedgehog figured that he and Princess Sally Alicia Acorn needed a change of place as they were drawing a crowd at the party and he did not want things to develop even more negatively.

"Uh, Sal, maybe we should talk about this somewhere else?" Sonic said to her almost pleadingly while gesturing to a lot of people, some of them friends and family, watching them with concerned looks.

Seeing his point, Sally exhaled exhaustedly, but allowed Sonic to lead her to his home where they could talk privately.

Upon the two of them taking a seat on the couch in his house's living room, Sonic turned to Sally and asked with concern in his voice. "Sal, please tell me what's wrong. I appreciate that you're worried for me, but what I saw and heard was something else."

"Sonic." Sally turned to him in a voice that was meant to sound firm, but seeing the look in his eyes, she could not bring herself to do anything but fall into his arms sobbing while admitting. "I lied about what I said earlier today. I honestly thought I lost you in the Xorda attack last year and seeing Mecha hurt you just brought all that grief bubbling forth."

Empathizing with Sally's sorrow, but relieved to hear the truth of it, Sonic replied. "It's okay, Sally. I should've thought about sending a message to you all somehow that I survived while I was in space, but I didn't think it was taking me that long to get back. For what it's worth, I was in that same place, too." Reluctantly, he added. "Back in the last war, when I thought I lost you and got blamed for it."

"Oh." Sally uttered in realization before repeating it even more downcast. "Oh. The old Robotnik's Operation Endgame felt so long ago, I let myself forget. I'm so sorry, Sonic. Now that I think about it, I'm probably not as ready to handle things here while my parents are away, after all."

Making eye-contact, Sonic smiled at her as he said encouragingly. "Hey, it's okay. We all get hung up in the act. As for you managing the Kingdom when your folks are absent, that really depends on what you want, and feel is best. Same thing about the two of us being together as well." Holding her tight, he said earnestly. "I do want a future together, Sal, but I want to make sure you're comfortable with everything all the same. If you don't want to risk another heartache, or you feel like you're not in the right mood for leading anyone, then you deserve a break more than most people in the universe. No matter what, though, whether as your Royal Consort, or just a friend, I'll always support you."

Reciprocating Sonic's smile at last, Sally stated. "I'll talk to my parents about their trip before they go, but I'll try to get better for the both of us, Sonic."

"Okay, then." The blue hedgehog's smile broadened as they then kissed deeply. Breaking apart, Sonic then said. "Now, how about we head back before your dad starts hating me again for no reason?"

"Right." Sally agreed with a laugh.

Think of the middle part of the title, which is a real word, as an alternative ship name for Sonic the Hedgehog and Sally Acorn's romantic relationship. I originally wanted to write about Sonic asking the Azurites to build him a long distance communicator so he could let Mobius know he survived the Xorda attack and how that would affect things right then from Sally slowly rebuilding her confidence while Doctor Eggman blows a gasket in front of his newly created children to the Antione D'Coolette switch with his Anti-Mobius counterpart being stopped before it began, but then I decided that something simple like this would not be too terrible to write about.

Anyway, while Archie Sonic's first continuity did have its fair share of melodrama among other things, do not expect me to rewrite the whole thing as some writers have done. When I get confirmation of what IDW will do about Ian Flynn's statement about potentially continuing either or both Archie Sonic's Pre- and Post-Super Genesis Wave continuities, then perhaps it will affect what I would like to work on. Something tells me the Post-SGW is likelier to be adapted, if at all, but we will see how things go first.
