Hey guys! i thought i would do something a little more challenging! i am not a medical professional and i most likely will get things wrong but i really hope you enjoy anyway!

Thank you so the support it has been amazing

This is only one chapter but if you would like me to continue it please let me know!

He started playing with his wedding ring, twirling it around with his fingers. 18k silver ring, diamonds imbedded throughout it beautifully. It was a perfect ring but the man who had slid it ever go gracefully on his finger wasn't the perfect man. Kurt never wanted to be married and always hated the idea. To him it was just a thing you do to make your family happy. A stupid piece of paper, binding you into a contract. He never understood why it meant so much to people about being married. It wasn't that he was against it he just didn't want to go through the process himself. If you love someone, why do you need to prove that by getting married? It just made everything so much more complicated but his boyfriend wanted it. He wanted to have it and Kurt wanted to make him happy so finally after two years agreed. He had been married to his husband for six years now. Six long, excruciating years, together for eight and married for six. It's not that he didn't love him because he did, he just didn't love the constant abuse and control he had over him. The first two years of there relationship was everything. They was practically in the honeymoon stage for the full two years. Dates every week, he would get flowers delivered to him every Friday and the sex. The sex was incredible. It was so passionate and full of love and every time he thought about it, it sent shivers down his spine but now? Sex wasn't done through love, it was a chore. They would have sex now and Kurt would just zone out. The moans of pleasure was faked to please him. He was getting incredibly bored of telling his husband to fuck him harder even though all he wanted him to do was to roll off him and fucking go to sleep. You're meant to be in a relationship to be happy, smile, laugh and make beautiful memories. Not to be constantly upset, battered and bruised. He looked over to his desk and picked up his photo frame. His son. His beautiful five year old son. They had decided to adopt a year into their marriage, they talked about getting a donor but Kurt didn't feel right doing that. Why make a baby when you can make someone else's happy? His mother was a raging alcoholic and his father was a heroine addict so for him it was the most perfect decision he had ever made. He got that baby out the system and into his arms. They spent hours deciding on a name for him.

Riley

He grinned as he lifted a finger to the picture. He was absolutely beautiful. He had the biggest and brightest blue eyes he had ever seen. Everyone always commented saying if they didn't know he was adopted they would swear he was kurt's biological child. Liam didn't like that, hated it even. He always reminded Kurt that Riley was in fact adopted and it made his blood boil. Riley was his son, not some kid he had adopted but his son. It didn't matter if they didn't have the same genetics, he'll always be his dad. He missed his son so much and couldn't wait to get home to hold him. Liam was a hot shot lawyer and was currently working away from home so it was just him and his gorgeous little boy. His god send of a babysitter was watching him, Emma. She was such a beautiful soul and was so invested in his sons life. He will forever be grateful for her. He heard the a light knock on the door and he shouted for them to come in.

"I'm extremely sorry to bother you Dr Hummel but you have a phone call on line four."

"Thank you." Kurt said politely before picking up the phone and accepting the call.

"Good evening, this is Dr Kurt Hummel speaking, how may I help you?" Kurt said professionally as he leaned back onto his chair.

"Good evening Dr Hummel, my name is Dr Arthur Fitzgerald. I'm currently the chief of surgery at Ohio State Medical Center. I was wondering if there was a possibility I could talk to you about a case I've been working on? It's your in speciality."

"Of course Dr Fitzgerald.I'm happy to help. I don't mind at all." Kurt said picking up a pen and piece of paper, waiting to take notes of their phone call.

"Her name name is Dorothy meadows, twenty seven and is five months into her pregnancy. Shes developed quite serious conditions. She has developed Tachycardia and it's causing to put a lot of pressure on the fetus as you would know, Preeclampsia is also another condition she has obtained through out her pregnancy along with mild seizures."

"Has she had any pre excitingstill births or miscarriages?" Kurt said softly as he wrote down the notes.

"Yes Dr. She had a miscarriage when she was twenty one, twenty three, when she was twenty four. She always just informed recently that she also had an abortion when she was sixteen."

"Abortion method used?"

There was a slight pause. Kurt thought the phone had cut off.

"A coat hanger."

"I'm sorry Dr Fitzgerald, could you repeat that for me? I think I heard you wrong."

"No doctor, you did not."

Kurt was in shock. He had seen and heard some things in his time but this was something he had never felt with before. Kurt was the top in his field. He was a OB/GYN and neonatal surgeon and was one of the best in the country. He traveled the world giving lectures and preforming life saving surgeries on mother's and their babies. He was extremely well known and extremely well respected.

"I'm guessing that's where your concern comes into it? Was she admitted for any medical attention after the abortion?"

"She was. Sepsis and a perforated bowel. I know you're extremely busy but I could really do with your help. This case is baffling me and all my other colleagues and the fetus is becoming more and more distressed as times goes on, I don't think she or the baby is going to survive this one."

"If it's okay with you, I would like to come and examine her and the fetus myself. I won't know the extend of the damage until I do so." Kurt said professionally as he twirled the pen in his hand.

"Of course Dr Hummel, it would be pleasure."

"I'll get the first flight out in the morning Dr Fitzgerald. I'll do everything I can to help." Kurt said smiling.

"Thank you. Have a lovely rest of your night Doctor."

"And you." Kurt gently put the phone down and leaned back into his chair. He felt guilty leaving Riley again but he was a workaholic and he couldn't help it. Maybe I should take him with me?

"Daddy!"

Kurt looked over and grinned. His son was running towards him, stumbling over as he little legs tried to carry in. God this kid breaks my heart. Kurt threw his head back laughter and kneeled down and opened his arms out wide.

"Come here my beautiful boy!"

Riley ran into his dads arms giggling and Kurt lifted him up and threw him into the air and catching him.

"Have you taller! I think you have! You're such a big boy!" Kurt shouted as he tickled his son which elected high pitched screams.

"Daddy stop!" Riley laughed out as his dad continued to tickle his sides.

"But I've missed you!" Kurt said placing kisses all across his face.

"I've missed you too daddy!" Riley said excitedly.

"Hey Kurt!" Emma beamed as she walked out his kitchen. Kurt balanced his son on his hip and walked over and leaned in and kissed her on the cheek.

"Thanks Em, you're a star." Kurt said and Emma blushed.

"Stop it you." Emma said laughing and playfully pushing him away. Kurt turned towards his son and kissed him on the head.

"Have you made me any drawings today?" Kurt said excitedly as he kissed his son again.

"Yes! Oh my god let me get them for you!"

Riley started to squirm out his dads hold and he just chuckled and lowered him down. They watched him run through the room and into his playroom.

"How was your day Doc?" Emma said smirking and Kurt rolled his eyes.

"Good. Busy but good. I've had a really important phone call about a case in Ohio so I'm flying there first thing in the morning. I'm going to take Riley with me, he hasn't seen my dad in six months." Kurt said sadly and Emma hugged him.

"You haven't seen him either Kurt. I know how much you miss him." Emma said into his ear before kissing his cheek.

Emma had gone to bed afterwards after going into the playroom and saying goodnight to Riley. She had her own room at Kurt's. He sat down and started to order the flight tickets. Riley had just ran back in, pieces of paper scrunched up in his little hands. Kurt rolled his eyes and laughed and leaned down to pick him up.

"I drew you all these daddy." Riley said pointing to all the pictures of scribbles.

"Wow." Kurt said picking them up. He could see the joy in his child's face and he turned to him. "I love them so much!"

Riley giggled and clapped his hands before flinging his arms round his neck. "I'm so glad you love them daddy!"

Riley had begged his dad if he could stay up with him for a while and he couldn't say no to him. Kurt was laying on the couch and Riley was sitting on top of him. He was chatting away about the day he had that day and Kurt was Kurt nodding in agreement. He didn't understand a word he was saying, he was talking way to fast and his words was joined together. Kurt loved it, he loved every minute of it.

"Whens papa coming home daddy?" Riley asked looking round the room and Kurt swallowed.

"He's working away son, you remember me telling you?" Kurt said lifting a hand up and taking the hair out of his face.

"I do daddy I forgot." Riley said smiling and leaned down and kissed his dad on the cheek.

Riley had fell asleep in his arms about twenty minutes later, tired himself out with all the talking and excitement. Kurt just held him against his chest and ran his fingers through is hair. He didn't want to move him yet, he just wanted to hold him. His arms wrapped round him and held him protectively. He really wanted to get out. The abusive slurs had turned to physical abuse. Kurt wasn't just scared of Liam, he was petrified. He had never hit Kurt in front of Riley which he was so thankful for. The slaps and turned into punches and the punches had turned into kicks. He never did it in places you could see, it was always underneath his clothes. Kurt let out a choked sob as a tear left his eye. He didn't know how he was going to get out of it. He was scared if he left he would take a Riley away from him. He couldn't loose his son. Thirty minutes later he was slowly lifting his son into his arms and carrying him into his room and placing him on his bed and started to tuck him in. He leaned down and kissed him gently on the head.

"I love you so much."

Kurt pulled back and smiled before switching his lamp and walking to the door and turning around, watching him for a few minutes before shutting the door over. He made his way to his room and shut the door. He got a quick shower and threw a pair of boxers on and a large t shirt and got into bed, sleep soon taking over.

"Daddy."

Kurt cracked on eye open and seen his soon standing at the door way. His baby blanket in his hand with one of his teddies. Kurt smiled and held his arms out and his son came over and he lifted him up onto the bed and put him under the covers. Kurt turned around and checked the clock. They still had four hours before they had to leave for the airport.

"You know where we are going today?" Kurt said kissing him on the head.

"Where daddy!"

"To see grandpa." Kurt said smirking. He son started to squeal in delight and started to clap his hands together.

"I've missed Gramps!"

Kurt laughed at the nickname and cuddled into him. "Daddy has to work by Grandpas so he's going to look after you okay? You'll have the best of times!"

"I'm so excited!" Riley said laughing himself into his dad and hugging him tightly. "Come on daddy! Let's go!"

Riley started to try and drag his dad out the bed and it just made Kurt laugh harder. Kurt pretended to be lifted up by him.

"You're so strong!" Kurt said dramatically as he watched his sons little proud face.

They had got ready and Kurt had started to pack for them. He took enough for a few days and he was just going to buy whatever else they needed. He had just finished his case and was packing his sons. He placed the adorable little outfits in the case. He pulled out his little blue backpack and placed some pens, pencils and paper inside with a book and also his baby blanket and his favourite teddy. He walked over and grabbed his IPad and made sure it was fully charged before placing it in his backpack. Riley loved watching movies on flights, it calmed his nerves about flying. His son had just ran in and was twirling around the room. Kurt laughed and shut the case and closed his backpack and walked over to him and picked him up.

"What do you want for breakfast?" Kurt said nuzzling his noses into his.

"Pancakes Daddy!"

Riley was sitting on his chair in the kitchen, bouncing excitedly for his pancakes. Kurt glanced over and smiled. He didn't know what he would do without him. He was his world. He made his way over and placed the pancakes in front of him with a juice box.

"Thanks daddy you're the best."

Kurt beamed and kissed his head before picking up a plate and a cup of coffee and making his way to Emma's room. He knocked lightly and when he heard a come in he entered.

"Hey gorgeous, I've got breakfast for you." Kurt said grinning walking over and kissing her on the cheek.

"Oh my god I fucking love you." Emma whispered as she swore and Kurt just rolled his eyes and laughed.

"What time you gotta leave?"

"In about thirty minutes. Thank you so much for watching the house for me. Make sure you invite that hot boyfriend of yours around, I don't want you on your own." Kurt said winking and she let out a laughter.

"Oh I will don't you worry." She said winking back and Kurt nodded and kissed her before making his way back into his son. He grabbed an apple and his coffee and sat down.

"That's not breakfast daddy." Riley said sternly pointing at the apple, his mouth wide open with food.

"Please shut your mouth while you're eating Riley." Kurt bit his lip to held back the laugher and Riley nodded and swallowed.

"That's not breakfast daddy." Riley repeated pointing at the apple again.

"Im not hungry kiddo." Kurt said taking a bit out of his apple.

"You're never hungry daddy! How can you not be hungry? I'm always hungry." Riley said before placing a piece of pancake in his mouth.

His son was right. His eating habit was shocking recently and his son was noticing and it made him worry. He was just always so stressed and eating was the last thing on his mind. Between work, looking after Riley and his abusive boyfriend he was just so exhausted all the time. Kurt had stood and made his way to his bedroom, pulling the suitcases out and his sons backpack into the hallway.

"I'm finished daddy look!"

He turned around and seen his son standing there holding the plate up.

"Oh my god you big boy!" Kurt said excitedly while he he took the plate carefully out of his sons hands.

"Daddy do you think I can see grandpa's house from up here?" Riley said beaming as he pointed out the window. Kurt grinned before leaning closer and wrapping an arm round him.

"You know how much I love you right?" Kurt said as his grip went tighter.

"Course daddy. Do you know how much I loves you?" Riley said smiling at his dad. Kurt swallowed and nodded and leaned in and kissed him on his cheek.

They had landed and was making there way through the airport quickly, Kurt was trying to juggling two suitcases, Riley and his backpack. Riley was clinging onto his hip, his arms wrapped round his neck. They turned the corner and heard shouting.

"There's my two favourite boys!"

Kurt eyes started to water and he turned round to see his dad standing there with his arms wide open. Riley screeched and jumped off his dad.

"Grandpa!" Riley shouted running away from Kurt

"Be carful Riley!" Kurt shouted in panic as he watched his son run over to him. He watched his dad kneel down and pick his son up and bring him into a big hug. He stood there and watched and placed the suitcases down and placed a hand to his head. He felt the tears fall from his eyes and he wiped them away quickly. He looked up and see that his father was walking over, holding his sons hand tightly.

"There's my boy." Burt said grinning and Kurt nodded and gave a watery laugh.

"Hey dad." Kurt said before his dad wrapped him into a tight hug.

"God I've missed you." Burt said into his sons ear and Kurt just nodded and held tighter.

"Why are you crying daddy? Are you upset you're seeing grandpa?"

"Oh no son, I'm just so happy." Kurt said kneeling down and picking him up. "I've missed grandpa."

"Me too! Grandpa did I tell you that I got a gold star in school?" Riley said laughing holding his hands out for his grandpa to grab him. Burt grabbed him quickly and brought him into another hug.

"You're kidding? Why didn't you tell me! God I can't wait to tell Carol and Finn! They will be so proud of you!" Burt said proudly and Kurt beamed. His dad was so good with his son. He was so good to him.

"For my spelling!" Riley said excitedly and started to tell Burt all the words he had spelt out.

Kurt was following them, listening in on their cute conversation. He picked out his phone and dialled the number for Dr Fitzgerald's office.

"Good morning, my name is Dr Kurt Hummel. I was wondering if there is a possibility if I could speak to Dr Fitzgerald."

"Oh good morning Dr Hummel! I've been waiting for your phone call. Let me transfer you right over!"

"Thank you very much ma'am."

He started to pack the cases into his dad's car, balancing the phone on his shoulder. His dad was fastening Riley into the back of the car in his seat. Burt smiled and nodded and his son and he got in the car.

"You daddy is on a very important phone call." Burt said and Riley smiled and nodded. Riley pulled out his iPad and started to watch beauty and the beast. It was his favourite.

"Dr hummel I'm sorry for your wait! How was your flight?"

"It was great thank you Dr Fitzgerald. I haven't long landed. I can be with you within two hours. Is there any chance in Mrs Meadows?

"That's perfect. I'll let my colleagues know. Thank you again for your time. She seems to be declining. Her BP was through the roof today."

They said goodbye after brief update on his patient and Kurt cancelled the call.

"I'm sorry." Kurt said turning to his dad. "You know I would love nothin-

"Stop it kiddo. This is your life and don't ever apologise for it. I'm so proud of you." Burt said smiling keeping his eyes on the road.

"Thank you dad. For everything. I don't know what I would do without you."

Dr Fitzgerald had called a meeting with his chief

Surgeons to inform them of Dr Hummel's arrival.

Dr Blaine Anderson – Chief of Neurosurgery

Dr Wesley Montgomery – Chief of Cardiothoracic surgery

Dr Nick Duval – Chief of Plastic surgery

Dr Jeffery Sterling – Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery

Dr David Thompson – Chief of Trauma surgery

They was all sitting around the board room patiently waiting for Dr Fitzgerald.

"Any of you know what this is over?" Dr Anderson asked around the table and they all shook there head.

"No clue man. Anyone of you killed anyone recently?" Dr Thompson said laughing and they all groaned.

"Don't say stuff like that David. You're putting me in pins!" Dr Sterling said hitting his arm playfully which just made his laugh harder.

"I could get you done for that asshole."

"Fuck you David."

"I hope it isn't anything malicious. It's very rare he summons is like this." Mr Montgomery said and they all agreed.

"Fingers crossed." Dr Duval said picking up his mug and taking a sip of his coffee.

There was a knock on the door and they all sat up straighter and stopped laughing.

"Good morning gentlemen. I'm sorry to bother you. I know how busy you are all. I just need a few words." Dr Fitzgerald said smiling as he made his way over to the projector and plugging his laptop in.

"Is everything okay? Are you okay?" Dr Sterling asked looking him up and down. Dr Fitzgerald laughed and shook his head.

"I'm fine Dr Sterling but thank you for the concern. It's rather sweet."

Jeff smirked and leaned back into the chair and the others just rolled their eyes.

"I know how hard you have all been working on the Meadows case, I know it's becoming increasingly difficult for you. I'm not saying you're not capable but this is such a mystery, So I've decided to bring someone in who specialises in this type of case."

"That's great. The extra hand and brain will help us out tremendously, thank you." Dr Anderson said professionally nodding a thank you to his Chief.

"He's extremely gifted and I know most of you would of heard of him before. Dr Kurt Hummel."

"Damn, how did you get him?" Wesley said in shock and looked at his Chief. "Sorry."

"Oh believe me I had the same reaction when he offered his assistance. I called him yesterday and we spoke briefly on the phone and as soon as he heard about the abortion he was already booking flights." Dr Fitzgerald said smirking.

"He's incredible. Top in his class and top in his game. When's he due to land?" Nick said towards his Chief.

"He's actually on his way. He should be here within the next few hours."

"Who's Dr Kurt Hummel?"

They all turned to Blaine with wide eyed.

"You don't know who is is? Jesus Anderson, have you been living in a whole? He's like one of the top OB/GYN and neonatal surgeon in the country." Dr Thompson said turning towards his colleague.

"I know of him I just don't know who he is." Dr Anderson said with a laugh and Dr Fitzgerald nodded with a smile and started to bring up Dr Hummel's records. Jeff leaned over and whispered into his ear.

"Wait till you lay your eyes on him."

Blaine frowned at Jeff's smirk and then his eyes landed on the board. Jesus Christ

"This my friends, is Dr Kurt Hummel. You're exactly right Dr Thompson. He is one of the best in the county. Graduated top of his class from The University Of Oxford and has an outstanding record of qualifications in his bag. Double board certified OB/GYN, sub specialising in maternal- fetal medicine and fetal surgery." Dr Fitzgerald said proudly as he looked around the room at their faces.

"Jesus." Dr Anderson said looking at the board. It was a portrait photo of him in his work scrubs, he was absolutely breathtaking. The contract between his pale skin and his bright blue eyes was making his heart jump. This man was attractive. His smile was charming. No way is this man real?

Blaine turned to Jeff who was smirking still at him. I told you Jeff mouthed to him and Blaine nodded.

"Jesus indeed Mr Anderson. I hope you all make his stay welcome. Please welcome him with open arms." Dr Fitzgerald said before closing the laptop off and walking one to the table.

"I'll come and formally introduce you to him in an hour. Keep your pages on you. Is there any questions?"

"How long is he staying for the case?" Wes questioned

"He's here for the week for now. Hopefully we can have Mrs Meadows sorted by them. I have full confidence in Dr Hummel's abilities. Have a lovely rest of your day." Dr Fitzgerald said smiling before leaving the room.

"There's no way he's coming here. I have like a million questions for him." Dr Sterling said excitedly and they all nodded.

"He hardly ever looses a patient. His hands are magical." Dr Duval said wiggling his fingers in the air.

"Not to mention he looks like he's been carved by angels." Jeff said winking and they all laughed.

"Isn't that right Anderson?"

"Fuck off Jeff."

They all started laughing and standing up and making there way out the room.

Kurt had pulled up outside the hospital and hour later. His three price suit on and ready to go. He perched his round glasses on his nose and got out the car locking it. He started to walk towards the hospitals entrance. He really wanted to help. He hated leaving his son, it really put a downer on his day. He shook it off and made his way through the doors.

"Dr Hummel!"

Kurt turned around recognising the voice. He smiled and waved. "Good morning Dr Fitzgerald. It's a pleasure to meet you." Kurt said professionally as he stuck his hand out and Dr Fitzgerald took it gently and shook it.

"The pleasure is all mine! I'm so thankful for you coming down to help us. This case is a bag of mystery."

"It's no problem. I'm just glad I can help. Any change in her condition?" Kurt said as they walked through the hospital towards his office.

"No change, luckily. We just don't know what's causing the miscarriages. She's wanted a child for so long, we just want to give her that." Dr Fitzgerald said and Kurt smiled and nodded.

"There's also something else. I didn't want to mention it over the phone. May we speak in my office?"

"Of course." Kurt said smiling as they ended the office.

"Please take a sweat, make yourself comfortable. Would you like a coffee?" Arthur asked kindly and Kurt nodded.

"Oh I would love one thank you."

When their drinks was made he sat down in front of Kurt. "She's a rape victim. She's impregnated with her attackers child. She's extremely volatile and refusing for any medication to examine her."

Kurt nodded and crossed his legs.

"She's refusing treatment from men and woman but if we don't examine her properly there's a huge risk she's going to loose this baby."

"How does she feel about the situation?" Kurt said taking a sip from his coffee.

"She was the keep the baby and she's been okayed from her psych evaluation but she's is terrified and extremely vulnerable. We don't know how we can treat her. That's where you come in."

"I would love to meet her." Kurt said smiling. He knew this was going to be hard but he needed to try.

"Of course. Would you mind meeting the heads of my departments? They are waiting to meet you." Arthur said smiling and Kurt nodded

"I would love too."

"Oh my god." Blaine breathed out as he turned his head from the surgeries board and looked over. And I thought he looked good in the photo.

"What?" Jeff said excitedly and Blaine nodded in their direction.

"Oh damn."

Arthur and Kurt was chatting while they was walking. Kurt's hands was moving up and down as he talked and Arthur had his head thrown back laughing at something he had said.

"Why have you both for your mouths open like that?" Nick said walking over and passing them both a coffee. They nodded in the direction.

"Oh shit." Nick said laughing he watched them walking over.

"What's going on?" Wes said coming as he appeared from the Nurses station. They all just nodded over and Wes turned his head. Wes laughed

"He's quit the head turner isn't he?" Wes said smirking at their faces and they just nodded.

"Why are you all-

They pointed over and David looked. "Oh shit."

"That's what I said." Nick said laughing.

Kurt was getting introduced to some on the Nurses. They was practically drooling over him. He was smiling wildly has he shook there hands. They watched how he interacted with them and the kindness was radiating from him. A few minutes later they was walking over and Blaine started to feel nervous.

"Good morning again gentlemen, I would like to introduce you to Dr Kurt Hummel." Arthur said and Kurt smiled.

"It's a pleasure to meet you all." Kurt said sweetly and he lifted his hand out and they started to introduce themselves. When his hand touched Blaine he felt like he was going to melt. His hands was incredibly soft. Looked after.

"It's lovely to meet you Dr Anderson."

He voice was like silk. It was high but masculine and his words just rolled off his tongue. Everything about this man was beautiful.

"It's lovely to meet you too Dr Hummel." Blaine said confidently finally finding his voice. He withdraw his from his and Blaine felt cold all of a sudden.

"We are going to Mrs Meadows. I would like you all to be there." Arthur said and they all nodded. They got in the lift and Arthur pressed the button.

Kurt was standing next to Dr Anderson. He could feel the heat radiating from his hand, their hands nearly touching. He felt his heart race pick up and he felt breathless. He pushed it down and was thankful when they reached the floor. They all stepped out and made their way to her room. They all see the confidence in his face. He most definitely knew what he was doing. They got to the room and Arthur knocked. The room was cut off, it was a private room. The windows blacked out. You could see in but not out. They thought it would be better for her and it was. It was cut off also from the ward so only doctors could see through and not anyone else walking past.

"Good morning Mrs Meadows." Arthur said smiling and she nervously looked over and nodded.

"I would like you to meet-

"Dr Kurt Hummel." Dorothy said quickly adverting her gaze. "I researched you."

"Hello Mrs meadows. It's a pleasure to meet you." Kurt said gently and as soon as she heard his voice she turned her head and looked at him. She was nervously playing with the covers over her lap.

"Would you mind leaving us for a moment Dr Fitzgerald?" Kurt asked kindly and they all nodded.

"Of course."

They left wanted to give Kurt some time with her but they went to the viewing room so they could watch.

"Would you mind if I came closer to you Mrs Meadows?" Kurt said softly and she shook her head.

"That's okay. I'm perfectly fine where I am." Kurt said smiling at her.

"So I've heard you've been feeling a little unwell?"

She nodded and glanced over. "I haven't been to good."

"Would you mind if I ask you some personal questions?" Kurt asked and she nodded.

"Are you suffering from any pelvic pressure?" Kurt questioned, his smile still plastered on his face. She nodded.

"Are you suffering from any bleeding from your vagina?" Kurt asked professionally and she looked away. Kurt didn't push her. He waited patiently.

"A little bit." Dorothy whispered

"Cramping in your abdominal area?" Kurt added and she nodded.

"Okay. I'm going to walk over the other side of the room and grab that chair next to your bed and then I'm going to bring the chair back here and sit down. I suffer from a condition called Sciatica and it's incredibly painful for me to stand for to long. I slipped a disc in my back two years ago." Kurt said and she bit her lip and nodded.

Kurt walked over slowly watching her for any sign of discomfort but she shown now, just nervousness. He picked up the chair and went to move with it.

"You can just stay there."

Kurt looked to her and smiled. "Okay."

Kurt placed the chair back down and he sat. He close to the bed but not reaching distance.

"How did slip a disc?" She whispered, glancing to him.

"Me and my husband took a trip to Lapland with our son two years ago. He's obsessed with the snow. I went to chase my son and I slip ever so gracefully on the snow and ended up the rest of our trip hospitalised." Kurt said laughing lightly. "Let's just say when window comes I hibernate."

Dorothy laughed a genuine laugh. "Sorry I'm not laughing at you."

"Why not? Everyone else does." Kurt said smiling and she nodded and chuckled lightly.

"You have a son?"

"I do. He's five now, feisty like his daddy." Kurt said pointing at himself and she laughed again.

"What's his name?" She questioned

"Riley." Kurt said proudly and his eyes lit up.

"That's adorable."

Kurt nodded. "Would you like to see him?"

"I would love too." She said nodding and biting her lip.

Kurt pulled his phone out and opened his photo album. "I'm going to pass you my phone now okay?"

She nodded and Kurt reached over and she grabbed him phone and started to look through the photos.

"He's so beautiful. Is he biologically yours? He looks just like you." Dorothy said grinning and flicking through the photos.

"Unfortunately not no." Kurt said looking at her.

"Wait seriously? Wow he looks the spit out your mouth."

Kurt laughed and nodded. "Everyone says that. I was blessed."

"You sure was. He had your eyes." Dorothy said grinning as she pulled the phone up closer.

"He's adopted. Me and my husband decided we would prefer to adopt over a surrogate." Kurt said smiling and she nodded.

"There needs to be more people like you in this world, it would be be a better place." She said truthfully

Kurt laughed and looked away. "You're making me blush Mrs Meadows."

"It's cute and it's Dorothy." She said looking up smiling at him.

"Then it's only fair you call me my first name." Kurt said smiling back. She nodded.

"How bad is it?"

"I honestly don't know until we do a full examination of you. I'm good but I'm not that good." Kurt said winking and she threw her head back in laughter.

Kurt could feel her become more comfortable and he felt a sense of pride. "We don't have to do anything you don't want too. I just want to make sure you and the baby are safe."

"I'm scared." She admired lowering her gaze.

"I was scared too." Kurt said as her head shot up.

"I'm going to go and wash my hands okay?" Kurt said and she nodded. He slowly took his suit jacket off and rolled up his sleeves taking his watch off and placing it on the side. He walked over the sink and started to scrub his hands. He carried on talking to her.

"I was sixteen. I was in High school." Kurt said as he started to washed his hands. "I was called out the closet before I even got the chance to come out as gay myself." He carried on washing his hands. "The people who did it to me was the ones who had tormented me my whole life."

Kurt turned the tap off and started to dry his hands on a sterile towel. "There was four of them." He turned to face her and he started to glove his hands carefully. "I won't go into detail because I don't want you to became distressed. It was the worse day of my life."

"I'm so sorry." Dorothy said in shock. "How did you get over it?"

"I'll let you know when I do but I'm not long crippled by the thought of it." Kurt said smiling and she smiled back and nodded.

"I promise you, it gets better. One day you'll wake up and realise that the one thing that you thought made you weak has indeed made you stronger." Kurt said kindly as he walked back towards the bed.

"You are not what happened to you, you choose who you become." Kurt added and a silence tear rang down her face.

"You will one day heal and that doesn't mean the damage never existed, it means that's the damage no longer controls your god damn life."

Dorothy let out a watery laugh and looked over to him. "Please help me."

"Okay."

He stood and made his way to the foot of the bed. "I'm going to talk to through everything. You tell me to stop and I will stop. No, means no." Kurt said sternly and she nodded. He lubricated two of his fingers and leaned over. He asked her to to lift her legs and he helped her position them correctly. Directing her with her words.

"You tell me when you're ready." Kurt said kindly and she nodded.

"Ready."

Kurt slowly started his examination, pressing down lightly on her stomach and inserting two fingers into her vagina. He eyes was always on her. She tensed and closed his eyes.

"Stop."

Kurt quickly pulled away and lifted his hands up so she could she them. A minute later she nodded and gave him consent. Kurt reached back over and started again. After two minutes he pulled back.

"First bit is over now." Kurt said sweetly and she opened her eyes.

"Already?"

Kurt nodded. "I have to do another examination now. Using a medical deceive called a speculum. Would you like to see it?" Kurt said sweetly and she nodded. He took his gloves off and disposed of them and started to wash his hands again, he finished and walked over and grabbed a sterile speculum and opened it and passed it over.

"The procedure will involve me inserting the speculum into your vagina. This will allow me to visualise the neck of the womb. It shouldn't be painful but will feel slightly uncomfortable. You can ask me to stop at any point. You may experience light bleeding afterwards but that is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. I will always be taking swaps. Is that okay?" Kurt said smiling at her and she nodded.

"Would you like a female nurse or doctor present?"

"No, just you." Dorothy said biting her lip and Kurt nodded.

"Do you need to urinate Dorthy?" Kurt asked and she laughed and shook her head.

"Now, do you understand everything I have said or do you need me to explain anything before we start?" Kurt said sweetly and she said no.

"Okay."

Kurt re gloved and grabbed another wrapped clean speculum and preparing the swaps. He lubricated if generously and looked up at her.

"I need you to bring your heels towards your bottom and then let your knees fall to the sides." Kurt said and she smiled and did what she was told.

"Okay Dorothy. I'm going to insert it first. It might feel cold and uncomfortable."

She nodded. "Okay."

"I'm going to use my index finger and thumb to separate the labia."

She laughed nervously and nodded. After inserting the speculum he asked is she was okay and she said yes.

"Now, I'm going to rotate it gently at a ninety degree angle." Kurt said keeping his eyes on her and she nodded.

He looked down to concentrate on what he was doing. When he did that he spoke gently again.

"Now, this might be the comfortable part. I'm going to start opening it inside of you so I can examine your cervix. Is that okay?"

She gave consent and he continued with the procedure. She tensed a little but she told him she was okay.

"I'm going to examine you now. You just lay and relax. I may need to remove my gaze from you."

"That's okay."

Kurt carried on, examining her. "I'm going to insert a soft brush." He lifted it up to show her and she nodded. "Into your cervix and I'm going to take a sample. Nothing to worry about, standard procedure."

Kurt slowly inserted the brush, collecting a sample before running out after a minute and placing it in the a specimen pot and screwed on tightly, placing it in another secure bag.

"I need you to do one more thing for me, I need you to cough."

She laughed and did what he say and Kurt nodded.

"Okay, we are done sweetheart. You can cover yourself now." Kurt said smiling and she laughed a watery smile and covered herself with the blanket. While Kurt washed himself.

"I'm going to come back soon and take some bloods from you. Is that okay?" Kurt asked gently and she smiled.

"Thank you. For everything." Dorothy said as the emotions ran through her.

"It's okay. You've got this. You can do this." Kurt said before smiling.

"Please rest."

Kurt walked over the room and shut the door gently behind him.

"She has signs of prolapsed womb. Extremely rare but it can happen during a pregnancy. She also has signs of a incompetent cervix of cervix insufficiency, her tissues on her walls are weak and that can contribute to premature births or in most cases miscarriages." Kurt said turning to them.

"She has all the signs, pelvic pressure, backache I'm also guessing from the way to kept repositions herself and the abdomen cramps. She's bleeding also and more than what she should do." Kurt added.

"How do we go about it?" Arthur asked polity.

"Transvaginal ultrasound so we can check the length of her cervix and see if her membranes are protruding and most definitely a cerclage so we can keep her cervix closed for the rest of her pregnancy." Kurt replied back.

"Her cervix is heavily damaged front be a abortion. We need to be extra carful."

"Thank you so much. You're incredible Dr Hummel." Arthur said smiling and Kurt thanked him.

"We'll meet in the board room and discuss the options in depth?" Arthur said and they all nodded.

"That was truly incredible Dr Hummel. You was definitely made for this job." Wes said admiring his new co worker.

"The compliments are nice but not nessa-

"Are you kidding? You're a god." Jeff said laughing. "You was so good with her."

"Thank you." Kurt said laughing.

"Are you okay Dr Hummel?" Blaine said as they walked. "We heard what you said."

Kurt glanced at him and looked away. "Yeah I'm good thank you Dr Anderson."

They got back into the lift and Arthur pressed the button.

Kurt glanced over at Dr Anderson. God he's so gorgeous. Kurt went wide eyed and turned away. Stop it Kurt you're married. Blaine noticed and frowned slightly.

"How's your back?" Nick said softly and Kurt laughed.

"My back is fine. I lied." Kurt said keeping his head forward.

"Your kidding? But it was so convincing?" David said laughing.

"I needed a reason to be close to her. The whole lap land thing was true but I did not slip a disc." Kurt said smirking

"You're a genius." Arthur said and Kurt just laughed

"What about the other?" Blaine questioning him.

"It's true." Kurt said bluntly. "I wouldn't lie about that."

"I'm sorry." Blaine added.

"Don't be." Kurt said smiling and he moved his gaze again.

"I couldn't even imagine what you went though." Wes said and Kurt smiled.

"It's just one of those things that happens." Kurt said with a shrug.

"But it shouldn't happen." Jeff said sweetly.

The door opened and the thanked god silently before they headed back to the board room.

"What's her and the Foetus's survival rate?" Nick asked as they got the the board room.

"If we do the surgical procedure she should have a good chance, without it it's pretty slim." Kurt said as they all sat down.

"Fire away." Arthur said and Kurt smiled.

"It aims to keep the neck of the womb closed, it's a pretty basic procedure but it'll help her indefinitely through the of her pregnancy. The Transvaginal cerclage also know as the vaginal stitch. I suture stitches will be placed outside the wall of the cervix causing the closer of it." Kurt said taking a breath. "Or there is another approach. The Transdonimal Cerclage also know as the abdominal stitch which is insert through the abdomen using keyhole surgery or an open laparotomy. Both can be done under a spinal block."

"Which procedure do you think will be most successful?" Arthur asked

"Most likely Transvaginal. It's less invasive and the recover rate is a lot quicker. Plus it can be done at until twenty three weeks so she's luckily enough to of made it in time."

"Do you think this is most likely caused by her abortion?" Wes said sitting back into his chair.

"Yes. She has trauma to her cervix. The procedure is extremely quick and only normally takes between twenty minutes to thirty."

"That's perfect." Arthur said grinning.

"This type of condition does not normally cause seizures." Kurt said turning to Blaine.

"I'm going to do a EEG followed an MRI and we can go from there." Blaine said smiling.

"Great." Kurt said turning back. "I'll like an ultrasound done before hand, so I can record the foetus's heart rate also. I'll like to get her in as quickly as I can. I just want to minimise the risk. She trusts me now, I think she's be more included for the surgery now." Kurt added and they all agreed.

"Does that sound good to everyone?" Arthur said and they all nodded.

"Great. I'll prep an OR for you Mr Hummel. I'll grab you some scrubs while I'm at it." Arthur said laughing and Kurt laughed too.

"That be great thank you."

Kurt was getting changed into his scrubs. He was given the big boy ones. Navy blue. He forgot his scrub cap. His son had got it for him last year. It was blue, with little stethoscope's scatted around it. It was supper cute. He finished getting change and he threw the long white coat on and threw his stethoscope around his neck and clipped his ID badge and key card onto his pocket and clipped his pager to the other side and threw a pen in his top pocket. He smiled and left the changing room and started to make his way to Dorothy's room.

"Blue is most definitely your colour." Blaine said smiling as he walked towards him. Kurt rolled his eyes and laughed and they both started to walk to the elevator.

"No scrub cap?" Blaine questioned and Kurt shook his head.

"I left mine at home. I thought I had it with me but I don't. I wanna cry." Kurt said stepping into the elevator and Blaine chuckled and leaned forward and pressed the button.

"I have a spare one if you want it. I got a pack of two and i've only ever wore the one." Blaine offered

"I can't wear other mens scrub caps, my husband might her the wrong idea." Kurt said smirking.

"Oh I'm so-

"I was kidding! Of course that'll be lovely thank you." Kurt said smirking again and Blaine laughed and nodded.

"Sorry, I'm very sarcastic and blunt. You'll get use to it."

"I don't think I will. You're only here a week Dr Hummel." Blaine smirked back.

"I guess you better get use to it quick then." Kurt said turning his head towards him and smiling. Blaine smiled back and they held each others gaze. The opening of the elevator snapped them back to reality. They quickly turned there heads back and stepped out and made there way to her room. Kurt entered the room first knocking.

"Dr Hummel! You look good in blue." Dorothy said giggling and Kurt laughed.

"I told him that too but he doesn't take compliments very good." Blaine said grinning at her and she grinned back.

"Are you sure it won't hurt?" Dorothy asked cautiously looking at her doctor.

"No of course not. That's what the spinal block is for. You'll feel nothing but you will be awake, that's a good thing though, you can keep me company." Kurt said and she nodded which a laugh.

"I'm good with that." Dorothy said smiling.

"Tomorrow I would like to start to your scans to see if we can figure out what's causing these seizures of yours. I don't want to put two much pressure on your today with your procedure with Dr Hummel." Blaine said smiling and she nodded.

"Thank you both."

Blaine kept his promise and brought Kurt his scrub cap. It was exactly like Blaine's blue, his was red.

"It's cute." Kurt said looking closely at it. It had a paisley print running right through it.

"You'll be all matching now." Blaine said and Kurt rolled his eyes and grinned.

"Thank you."

Kurt lifted it up and placed it on his head, tying it securely.

"How does it look?" Kurt said waving his hands out to the side of his head. Blaine laughed and stepped forward.

"You have hair sticking out." Blaine said smirking.

"Where?" Kurt said reaching up and Blaine only laughed harder and told him to turn around. Kurt did and Blaine untied it and Kurt turned back around. He placed it on his head, making sure all his hair was covered and he started to tie it. They was so close together. Way to close, they didn't even have to be this close. Kurt watched him as his eyes was concentrating on doing it perfectly and then Blaine's gaze lowered to his. He could see Blaine swallowing and looking back up. Blaine smiled and stood back.

"All done!"

"Thank you." Kurt said quickly, feeling like he had been in the chest.

"I would say good luck but I know you don't need it." Blaine said smirking.

"That doesn't mean I don't want to hear it." Kurt shit back.

"Good luck Dr Hummel." Blaine said grinning and he turned around and walked away, not giving Kurt a chance to reply.

Kurt smiled and shook his head before turning around and making it to the OR. Why does he make me feel tingly inside? He started to scrub in. He watched Dorothy through the window. She looked incredibly nervous. A spinal block was already provided. Once he knew he was clean enough he started to dry his hands. A surgical gown with a tie back and a face covering. He walked into the he OR with his hands placed upwards and gloves was applied to his hands. A light was also placed on top of his head. He loved this part. The fucking rush is endless.

"Good afternoon, everybody." Kurt said confidently and they all started to say hi. He walked over to Dorothy, his hands still facing upwards.

"You're going to be just fine. Just relax now and let me do the work." Kurt said sweetly.

"You're a star."

Kurt laughed and nodded. "I sure am."

Kurt got working away straight away. He talked to her all the way through and always let him know what he was doing.

"I'm going to apply the suture now." Kurt said softly and she nodded. Kurt had always loved being a surgeon. It wasn't always though. His steady hands moved quickly and perfectly without any trouble. He really hoped she could be able to carry this child full term.

"I was thinking of names." Dorothy said smiling.

"Have any in mind?" Kurt said softly as he carried on working.

"I like Jacob and Emily."

"They're beautiful names. Whatever you pick will be perfect." Kurt added smiling. He wanted her to feel the way he felt when he first held Riley. He really wanted that for her. Kurt noticed the babies heartbeat was becoming a little distressed. Dorothy turned her head.

"Is the baby okay?" She said worried.

Kurt looked over again and looked back to her. "Everything is fine, don't panic Mrs meadows."

But it wasn't fine. Her cervix had torn which was causing distress to her baby. He had about four minutes before it would rupture. He worked quickly but carried on talking to her not worry her.

"You know, being a surgeon wasn't something I always wanted." Kurt said as he carried on repairing the tear.

"It wasn't? You're a natural, you was born to do this. I literally couldn't imagine you doing anything else." Dorothy said in shock and Kurt chuckled.

"I wanted to be a mechanic." Kurt said laughing.

"You're kidding me?" Dorothy said eyes wide open.

"Unfortunately not. My dad is a mechanic, my grandfather was too. I wanted to carry it on, keep it in the family." Kurt said with a small laugh.

"What made you change your mind?" Dorothy said smiling at him through the mirror.

"I went to high school with a girl. Her names was Quinn. She was absolutely gorgeous. Short blonde hair, cheerleader and had a voice like an angel. She got pregnant and there was complications. She didn't make it and neither did her little girl." Kurt said as he finished repairing the tear and looking up at the monitor to see the heart rate had returned to normal.

"You was close to her wasn't you?" Dorothy said sadly.

"She was my best friend. We had been friends since I was five. We was neighbours. After that I just couldn't settle. I wanted to make a difference, I wanted to be there for all woman who was suffering through their pregnancies. I didn't want the same thing to happen to anyone else, so I studied. Really really hard and I didn't stop until I made it." Kurt said finally finishing and cleaning her up a little.

"I'm so sorry. I guess she was your motivation?"

"She sure was." Kurt said smiling and standing up. "Mrs meadows you're all done."

"Seriously? You've only been there fifteen minuets?" Dorothy said in shock was a laugh.

"I told you. I'm good." Kurt said smiling. "Now, you need to rest now, I don't want to hear a peep from you. Do you understand?"

She laughed and nodded. "I promise."

"I'm going to make my way down and meet him." Arthur said smiling and walked out the viewing room.

"That was insane." Jeff said as they watched from the resident observation window up top.

"Tell me about it. I told you, magic hands." Nick said smirking turning to Jeff. They had been dating for four years now. It wasn't a secret but they kept it pretty professional in the work place.

"He's amazing." Blaine said still watching him.

"He's married Blaine." David said placing a hand on his shoulder. "And he has a kid."

"I know. I would never-

"We know you wouldn't. We just don't want you to get hurt." Wes said cutting him off, not wanting him to think anything like that.

"Thank you." Blaine said turning to them and nodding.

"Is he wearing your spare scrub cap!" jeff said excitedly and they all laughed.

Kurt was currently scrubbing out as Dr Fitzgerald walked in.

"Well done Dr Hummel that was incredible even more so with the complications."

"Thank you. She had a large tear to her cervix." Kurt said turning towards him still scrubbing his hands and his forearms.

"It could of ruptured."

"But it didn't." Kurt said smirking and Arthur laughed.

"Of course it didn't. It's you."

"I'm sorry for getting personal. I can't help it. I just relate to her so much." Kurt said as he concentrated on his hands.

"It's refreshing, you saved her life and her baby's because you got personal. That my friend, is a gift." Arthur said smiling and Kurt beamed and looked away getting embarrassed.

"You don't take compliments very well do you?"

"I don't mean to be big headed, but I know I'm good but every time I hear someone say it I just feel embarrassed." Kurt said laughing.

"Well get use to it. Because you'll be getting a lot here." Arthur said smiling.

"Thank you Doctor."

"All them complications and he still kept his cool. I would have been shitting bricks." David said laughing and they all nodded. "I've gotta go back to general. I'll see you guys later, tell the Doc I said congratulations."

David left and they carried on walking. Wes had a heart valve repair in an hour so he also left so he could prep. He told them the same thing to congratulate him.

"Me too man. Plastics is calling!" Nick said grinning and squeezing his boyfriend arm.

"Bye baby." Jeff whispered and Nick smiled and nodded.

"Love you."

"Love you more."

Blaine and Jeff carried on walking together chatting away.

"What about you? What have you got today?" Jeff said smiling at his friend.

"Craniotomy, Posterior fossa decompression and a few biopsies but nothing another four hours." Blaine said smirking.

"Ooooo nice. Big brain stuff." Jeff said nudging his arm and Blaine just laughed and rolled his eyes.

"What about you?"

"Joint reconstruction in an hour and Arthroplasty and then I can finally go home." Jeff said smirking. He had already did three surgeries today and he was exhausted already.

"You look tired. Rest when you get home okay?" Blaine said concerned and Jeff nodded.

"I will. Thank you Blaine." Jeff said sweetly. "I'll call you."

"Bye you." Jeff said winking.

"Bye you." Blaine said winking back.

He turned around and made his way to the changing rooms. He had been on shift since yesterday and he really need a shower. He walked in and seen Kurt. He was sitting on the bench with his eyes closed.

"Everything okay?" Blaine said walking over and taking a seat next to him. Kurt smiled and opened his eyes.

"Yeah, everything is perfect. I'm just a little tired today." Kurt admitted.

"I won't tell you how amazing you was today. I don't want you getting embarrassed." Blaine said with a laugh.

Kurt let out a laugh and shut his eyes again, the faint blush trailing up his face. He bit his lip and opened his eyes. Blaine was staring right at him, right through him. He didn't know why this man was making him feel this way but he needed it to stop. If Liam found out there would be murder

Kurt dropped his gaze, the bench becoming more and more interesting as time went on.

"Did you not sleep much last night?" Blaine asked concerned and Kurt smiled.

"My child decided to wake me up early this morning."

Blaine laughed and nodded. "You must be so proud of him."

Kurt beamed and nodded. "He's my baby."

"What about you? Kids? Wife? Husband?" Kurt asked and Blaine shook his head.

"No kids. Haven't found the right person yet. Definitely no wife but I'm game for a husband." Blaine said tilting his head smiling.

"You're gay." Kurt said laughing.

"Yep." Blaine said smirking. "You surprised?"

"Very. I don't mean to sound stereotypical but I wouldn't of pegged you for a gay." Kurt said lifting his leg on on the bench and bending it so he could rest his face on it.

"Don't worry, I get it a lot and now it's not a faze, I've known since I was thirteen."

"Damn." Kurt said laughing and looking away.

"What?" Blaine asked and Kurt shook his head.

"Nothing."

"Tell me."

"It's nothing."

"Tell me please."

"No Dr Anderson."

"Why not?"

"Because it's not right."

Blaine leaned on ever so slightly and he heard Kurt inhale sharply and lean in closer. There foreheads was touching and both of them was breathing heavy. Blaine reached over and placed a hand on his face.

"I know it's not." Blaine said looking into his eyes. Kurt swallowed and closed his eyes and pulled away.

"Sorry that was inappropriate. I shouldn't have did that. You're married." Blaine said moving himself a little bit further away.

"I'm so sorry." Blaine said added and Kurt nodded

"Me too."

"Ive got to go. Have a nice rest of your day Mr Hummel." Blaine said quickly standing and Kurt just nodded and turned away.

"Fuck." Kurt breathed out looking down the ring placed him his finger. He looked at the ceiling and took a few deep breaths. He was in deep deep fucking shit.
