Why is Kagome's World so dark? Someone in the middle of darkness is inside the Higurashi Residence? Could it be a burglar?
"Alright! Another night of studying" said a determined Kagome. "Tomorrow, I'm gonna get through this test"
After convincing InuYasha to let her go in her time for 4 days, she's been catching up on her studies and preparing for her upcoming test. Now is the 3rd night of her studying but tonight, she's all alone in the Higurashi House with a sleeping Grandpa Higurashi. Mama Higurashi and Souta went to go visit their Aunt, Mama's sister that lives in Saitama and gonna stay the night in there. Grandpa Higurashi went to sleep early because of his very tiring day in the shrine. And there's Kagome, Studying late at night at her room to pass the test.
Clock ticking on her desk, the scribbling of pencil on paper, and mumbles of numbers and equations from the teenage girl's mouth were the only sounds in her room.
Then suddenly, the lights went out.
"Wha-" Started, Kagome's pencil slipped on her hand. 'Great, just great. Right when I was actually solving this math problem.' Even her desk lamp just decided to ran out of batteries.
She made a move to stand up and slightly wobbled with the sudden darkness. The only lights that were visible in the city are on some parts of buildings that probably have those for emergency blackouts like this that she can see from her window and the light provided by the full moon.
'Stupid Kagome, always goes home and leave us hanging' Inuyasha stomped a foot on the well glaring at it. Just like always, he's sulking just like when everytime Kagome is gone.
The others were enjoying their dinner at Kaede's hut and here he is glaring at the well like it has taken away his most precious 'wench'. He sat dawn and leaned on it, staring at the stars of the night.
Thinking about it, Kagome's time does not show many stars like this. Especially the annoying smell of pollution. Thank goodness that he learned to ignore foul scents around him. 'It wouldn't hurt to visit her tonight right? Tomorrow is the day she said she's gonna come back.'
But he needed to cover it up with some lame excuses like 'Everyone is worried about you but I'm the only one who can visit ya' 'Shippo misses you'. It's not like HE is the one who misses her. Hah!
Can't resist the urge to go visit her, he scanned the clearing to make sure that no one is watching him and quickly leapt inside the well. Disappearing in a purple light.
Walking in the darkness of her house is definitely not an easy task. After all, they rarely experience blackouts and you can't exactly walk straight with nothing to see. Touching the wall for guidance, Kagome slowly descended the stairs to grab that flashlight in the kitchen.
The darkness won't stop her from studying especially when she's finally understanding the lesson. Then she heard someone moving around the house and stopped moving for a moment. She thought she just imagined it and continued down the stairs. 'Grandpa doesn't wake up at a time like this. He's too much of a heavy sleeper' Then she heard it again. Sounds like footsteps but she can't pinpoint where it was coming from.
Having intruders in the house doesn't happen everyday and this is a first for Kagome, and make things worst only she and her grandfather are in the house. There's been news of some robbery in the neighborhood and this one is so bold robbing a family of shrine keeper in Japan. And taking advantage of the darkness for that matter.
Now feeling anxious she quickened her steps to the kitchen. Bumping her side to the table, she made a little yelp but quickly fumbled to locate the cabinets in the kitchen for that flashlight cuz she needed to at least have her eyesight to go grab a pan and smack the thief in the face. Not much of a weapon against a person with a knife or gun but better than nothing. Hearing the footsteps now more clearly, she's sure the person was going near her now and she needed to grab a hold of that stupid flashlight NOW.
Finally felt it in her hand, she switch it on quickly and pointed it at the shadow coming to her. She then met with golden eyes that she knew very well. She nearly fainted with shock and relief.
"Inuyasha!" Putting a hand on her chest, willing her frantic heartbeat to calm down. "You almost gave me a heart attack."
Inuyasha just grunted at her and made a grab at her flashlight. "Keep that thing from my eyes." slightly squinting his eyes at the bright light and managed to hold Kagome's wrist. Putting it down so he's not blinded with the light. "Anyways, why is your world so dark? Did some demon did this?" He's used to her time with so many lights at night.
"Nah, it's just an emergency blackout I guess. But I don't know when the electricity will come back" Kagome replied. "Why are you here? I told you I'm gonna be back tomorrow after my test and I won't go back now."
"It's not like that. I'm just checking on you okay?" Noticing that he's still holding Kagome's wrist, he let go of it quickly and turned away from her not wanting her to see his flushed face and crossed his arms. "You always get yourself into trouble, someone needs to keep an eye on you."
"Whatever." Ignoring his embarrassment at his actions, she grab his hand and started leading them upstairs to her room. "Only Grandpa and me are here so you might as well accompany me while studying."
"I thought you don't like me snooping around you when you're studying?" He gave her a suspicious look. 'Last time I did I ended up receiving a sit' he grumbled.
"I'm just gonna borrow your hand."
And THAT sounded off to his ears. Does that have a certain meaning?
Entering Kagome's room he was once again met with her sweet smell. Not that the girl holding his hand wasn't enough to satisfy his nose. It's just that inside her room, her scent is overwhelming. It's where he always felt secure and safe. And he'll hug Naraku before he admits it to anyone.
Kagome then lifted the chair beside her bed and carried it beside her desk chair. She then gave him a warm smile. "Come sit with me."
Inuyasha who have been mesmerized just obeyed her and sat beside her. She held up the flashlight to him and he took it carefully, waiting on what she wanted him to do with it. "Just hold it for me okay?" He nodded.
Knowing him, he probably doesn't mind being her flashlight holder considering Inuyasha's hyper personality and probably scramble around her room or he might as well stare at her through the night with that gold eyes in a corner of her room. After months of travelling in search of the jewel shards, Inuyasha's personality seems to get better and that can be cute sometimes but there's times that he acts sweet that she almost wondered if he's possessed. At least he's improving on how to show his feelings. But more on actions at least.
They stayed like that for an hour, Kagome studying her lessons and Inuyasha trying to understand what she's writing and reading, asking questions that the miko thought very helpful for her to memorize the lesson.
Just like a study date in the darkness of the night. I guess this blackout is not that bad when she got a chance in company of her beloved hanyou.
Inuyasha did enjoy himself, studying with Kagome actually felt nice. He hadn't got much of an education since his mother past away when he was still a pup. And since Kagome seems to appreciate his company, he was happy to help his miko.
The End
Hanyou - Half-demon
Miko - Priestess
Pup - refers to young canines
A/N: Yay! My first fanfic published. It's my first time and I feel a little nervous.
Writing the ending of this oneshot gave me more ideas and I almost forgot that it was just a simple oneshot. So there's supposed to be more of it but I decided to separate it and maybe publish it on another story. Feel free to review and tell me what you think :)
